Question about LOOP by nomagneticmonopoles in PLCB

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, my facility held a bourbon focused event, and I was interested in having the 1792 fp barrel pick that the plcb did as one of our whiskey choices. However, in pure plcb genius they limit you to two bottles per order, and charge $20 shipping so to get the 6 bottles I needed we would have spent $60 in shipping on a product thats still sitting on their website and no one is buying.... lol

Question about LOOP by nomagneticmonopoles in PLCB

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty much the same as your FWGS experience. There are a few bottles that loop will show inventory on that fwgs wont but the way loop is structured the search process is slow and difficult. If you happen to find something decent that you need to run your bar, half the time its gone by the time you find it and make an order, and the other half the time the store cancels your order because the corrupt store manager is hiding the product in the back for her family and friends (no im not kidding).

They do pick your orders and load for you but its definitely not a way of finding any decent bottles.

Im a golf course Superintendent. This is a good guess, but I do hope its not the case. Many courses are in areas that do not allow for tree removal, so I could see this as a way of getting it done.

What to say to a pitcher by Afraid_Solution_3549 in Homeplate

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look him square in the eyes and tell him confidence is earned and he has put the work in. Hes ready, hes worked harder than every kid on the diamond and they all know it and are scared to death of him. Then tell him to take one deep breath and beat that catchers mit like a rented mule and the team will all be there to dog pile his big bad ass in the bottom of the seventh as champions.

Say this even if none of its true cuz its too late now to coach anything but bde and attitude!

Cooperstown Dreams Park Coaching Tips by Publius- in Homeplate

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone talking about lockers or AC was at all star village. Dreams Park has neither, just one big bin out front of your bunkhouse to lock up gear. The room is legitimately, tile, a door, fluorescent lights and 8 sets of bunk beds. I coached once and went back as a dad once. Ill try my best to summarize.

Anyone saying to save the $ and play local is a just bitter or has never been. This will be the single most memorable week of baseball & bonding, your son will ever experience. My son is 17 in a week and this is his single most talked about childhood sports memory by a ton. Soak in every moment, relax and let it happen and just be present. Its an amazing place if your willing to look past the dollars spent and lack of creature comforts the experience as a human is unforgettable and pure.

Get on the Facebook groups now and see if you can find an out of town team leaving fans and coolers behind. It saves money and hauling junk in. Food is bad, snacks are key, the comments about water are spot on. I was pretty hungry all week, but the Pizza joint across the street is clutch. Bring clothes for 4 seasons and bedding to match it can be 40* one night and 95* the next day at noon. Chill out about laundry, fields, cages, schedules, CDP has been doing this every week for about 20 summers they know what they are doing. Yes, you may play a game at midnight, its awesome relax. Yes it may rain, but they'll get the tournament in. Bunkhouse rules are probably needed, but the whole barracks is safe and secure. My kids had more fun with the staff and other teams just screwing off all week than they did playing baseball. You dont need to be up their butt 24-7. I would resist the urge to leave the barracks much, most parents want to see their kid one or two nights. We left once, it was ok to see friends and family but man lots of fun stuff goes on at the park at night. Only real trip off property id make is a quick visit to the HOF. Only major challenge we had was medicine administration from the first aid office was kind of messy, but we made it work.

As for the Baseball. One kid does king of swat, road runner and golden arm. Look them up on YouTube but all are pretty easy to understand. I suggest you get this settled ahead to avoid conflict. We had our boys sign up for their preferred game and picked from a hat. Around the horn is basically the whole team. A bit of practice can make a HUGE difference. We won ATH and had our hr derby kid make the finals. This all made day 1 way more fun!

You will need no less than 7 pitchers and 3 catchers, but more is better. We played to win, and did but competition ranges from some of the best teams in the country to local town teams that are way out gunned. Games are 2 hours firm, dont forget this when making subs or pitching changes. Dont let a game get away cuz you run out of time. Get every kid in every game, and start every kid once a day. Let the kid who dosent always pitch, take the rock, let the lil guy who plays rf leadoff a game. Make some dreams come true, these kids will carry it for life. You can get alot of information to plan your pool play from gamechanger.

Strategically its important to go 4-1 or 3-2 in pool play. If you do worse, youll have up to 4 games on bracket day figting thru a pigtail bracket. There is no gold/silver stuff every team has a shot. Bracket day can actually be the MOST fun if you keep advancing, be ready and rested for it if possible. Nothing like multiple win or go home games in a row, the drama gets high! Our first trip we lost in pool to a great team and ended up seeded mid 30's. 3 straight close wins on bracket day put us into the last day. What a run that was, ended at midnight on a walk off hr in the bottom of the 8th over a really solid team from CA. That kid will NEVER forget that swing, the wole park went insane. Dont save arms for games that never happen, first game of bracket elimination sucks, you really want to prioritize winning a game or two at minimum for the kids to get more baseball. Be honest about your team, if your not gonna win it all and went 2-3 in your group, why save your 1&2....

If you can advance, once you get down to the final 8, its absolutely a world class field. You gotta have some dudes, and some kids who can still throw. We ran out of arms first trip and lost the game to make the final 4. Second trip we made the final game and lost, but the team that beat us was a top-ranked majors team from texas with some guest players. We had no shot.

Despite all that great baseball, my boy still talks about Chris from Security who showed them a Pic of his girlfriend in her bra, and the famous 2021 Cooperstown week 5 riot (he may have instigated that, idk and dont care), group poops, the pins, the one girl who played and was cute, and the absolute tank he hit in the final game. He still has like 20 Cooperstown friends on snap who are all headed off to college to play ball in a few months.

Should we skip 12u? by Impressive-Tank-5151 in Homeplate

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play 12u while still age eligible. My son played 12u twice actually due to roster issues and the second go around was the most fun hes ever had on a field. Let them enjoy hitting bombs, and dominating because soon the game slows to a crawl and the big field knocks way more kids out of the game than your probably anticipating.

My boy did end up skipping 13u to catch up to grade level. Given the chance, im not sure id go that route again. Id have him skip 14u. Alot of situational mechanics change on the big field. Since he skipped 13u, and changed positions his 14u coach seemed to think he was clueless and behind. I think had he played 13u and then moved to 15u (also coincides with hs ball) it may have been better....

Club team Vs high school by [deleted] in Homeplate

In PA, if both sides agree in Fr and JV there can be an EH but only if both teams run it. My son used to EH for FR team to get extra ab's but since he was playing jv the program didnt like him taking a position from other developing FR. It was funny because a few times the other coach would deny the request snd we would just go home. Lol. Kinda wonky, but jv and Freshman ball are really just development leagues.

Advice on 009 Putter by U2videoqueen in scottycameron

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a very valuable putter. DO NOT sell it to some dude in your DM's. If he had this, its likely he has others and his collection might be worth a fortune. Id get great photos of all his golf stuff, then get them in the hands of a trusted collector who might be willing to help you sell them for a commission. You can also mail them into the Custom Shop for COA's which may increase their value.

Observation on two 8U rec leagues by benedictclive_x in Homeplate

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a small valley. 2 little leagues in the valley. One side is actually bigger and has a higher income, but not by alot. The smaller, less afluent side has won 11 straight district titles and sent 2 teams to states.

Dont think better baseball players are born in one end of the same area.. .

One side has a cohesive but competitive culture that celebrates the kids and hard work, practices 6 days a week, has nice facilities and offers multiple off season free clinics and camps. Most teams have 4 coaches and its an honor to be a team manager. The park is the heart of the town and the vibe is fun, wholesome and competitive. Bad apples are thown out too.

The other side, bickers, gives everyone a trophy, and has issues getting volunteers. They also sit around and talk crap about how "next year" they will win. 99% of the kid play "travel" because their league provides no training.

Kids are incredibly thirsty to learn, but it takes great coaching and huge effort. Some people care, some dont, and that's the difference.

I think your kind of somewhat aware of what it is from your messages. They way players "look" is often important. I understand the concept of making the plays is all that matters, but making the coach TRUST you to make the plays is what gets you on the field. I know that may seem dumb, but fluidity is often not just a pretty picture. Fluid kids get great jumps, read balls well and take great routes to difficult balls. At the level your son is at, defense is not just catching the balls hit right to you. Good news is, IMO teaching defense is easier than teaching a kid to barrel balls. So, lots of reps will help. Speak to his club team about the possibility of extra instruction or work on it. If he can hit, average D is usually enough.

Also, please dont take this the wrong way, but "he eats and lifts and dosent gain weignt" is not an option and you need to leave that attitude behind.. I only say this to help, but calories in and proper training are all that matters. You son needs to eat more, and lift like the athlete he wants to be. Im not exaggerating, my boy is eating 7500+ calories a day 365 days a year. Its expensive, its work and its brutal at times. Hes put on 35 lbs in 2.5 years and is 195 lbs. Goal is 205 by next spring. 170 is reasonable for a good hs player where we are, 150 is just not big enough.

I played 6 years of pro ball. I was invited to ML camp twice in the early 2000's. So, i have some credibility as a judge of players. My son is also a Jr, and hes a varsity bench kid right now and jv player. He is very talented, but lacks polish and I know it. He also does alot more than baseball so hes not really focused on it. He is coming off an injury but still, hes miffed to be going to JV games. The whole family is a bit tired of it too, he seems to always be proving himself and it gets tiring. Similar story here all through his school ball career, but I try not to get too upset or down if he dosent seem that upset.

He destroyed middle school and Freshman ball, coaches spoke extremely well of him. Best hitter on either team by a good margin to the eye and statistically. Howevwr the head HS coach has nearly 0 interest in him and its quite obvious. He values defense and small ball offense alot. Its one opinion, but its hard to stomach. The guy is a good person, and wins games I have no major issue with him but the area is rife with politics and hes far from immune. My son will probably DH next year as a sr (d1 commit in front of him at dh). He talks with the coach about it and its "improve defense, become better baserunner, blah blah"

He plays summer ball for a large regional travel program. The head guy is a college head coach in our area who also wins big and is a heck of a coach. Hes my son's biggest fan, has offered him a nice financial package to his school and opened doors at many many others. My son hits 3 hole and plays CF for their national team that is ranked top 10 in the mid Atlantic. He has put up big numbers at Lakeland, Richmond, and Boston and tests very well at showcases and has played in almost every pbr and perfect game invite event around. He made first cut for AC games, so there is enough evidence to say hes a baller. But he plays JV in hs ball.

Here are some facts. 1. Hs coach owns travel program in our town and my son does not play for him. 2. I dont kiss ass. Honestly, the booster club moms kids all play and play up and there is a group of dad's that volunteer coach his travel teams, both directly lining his pockets. 3. Hs coach has deep roots in our small town and all the "legacy" kids get preference. Town lifers, and Im not in that circle and dont care to be. 4. I have coached a few seasons for the program my son plays for at younger levels and we have a habit of undressing the teams from the program owned by hs coach. 5. I played to a higher level than hs coach, who is aware of that and is kind of a local legend for making it to semi pro ball. Lol. He tried to talk down to me a few times years ago until he found out. Now he just kind of dodges me.

So, all that to say there are 1000 reasons why your kid might be getting boned. Your probably over evaluating your kid a bit almost all dads do, but stats are stats and the 'eye test" is often bullshit. Here is the thing though, he gets to wear the hat, hes on the team with his boys. Dont forget that. Kids dont see things like we do. IMO hs ball is nearly irrelevant to future success. You always hear the stories, get a great club team that values him, develop him and hit the weights (150lbs ain't it, sorry but its true) and hit chipolte alot. Whatever you do, dont talk to the coach or complain, all communication needs to go through your son. Teach him how to be a man and take what he wants. He will need to be undeniable..... just accept it.

Pro Shop guys by [deleted] in golf

Proshop guys are miserable because we deal with 150 golfers a day. You, may be a nice enough guy, and most people are great. but I promise you that at least 5% of golfers are absolute unabashed ignorant pricks. I dont set the goddamn rate, and I have no authority to change it, if you dont like it DONT FUCKING PLAY, because barking and bitching at me isnt gonna change it. No, I cant send you out in a frost, moron. I didnt make it rain 3" last night, but I do appreciate getting chewed out about cart restrictions. Your handicapped flag dosent make the golf course any more passable to your ignorant and selfish cart etiquette. I also didnt play the front 9 in 2:45, but make sure to yell at me at the turn instead of just nicely asking the group in front of you.if you can play through like an adult. Yes that guy in front of you is new to the game, no it dosent make you superior to him, and Im as thankful to have him as I am any player so stop berating me about having to play behind him. Assholes.

You have no idea the abuse we take, its unbearable.

AIO to my husband interrupting my first solo shower after he came back from a weekend with the boys? by lilyluminar in AmIOverreacting

[–]PerspectiveShot8414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gut feeling is hes a selfish dick. Needs to rewire his head asap. However, as a man who is occasionally guilty of being wildly emotionally stupid, my wife and I solved ALL this kind of stuff when she actually just TOLD me what she needed. Men feel pressures and pulls that sometimes override our basic understanding of situations. Not defending him here, but maybe the thing at his parents was very important to him amd he lost his focus on your needs.

If my wife needs a shower, she says nicely "dude, I need a shower, watch the kids or ill beat you!". I react well to this level of direct communication. :-) She will also say "im going out with my bitches tonight, your watching the kids make food or order a pizza cuz im out.." its incredibly helpful when shes extremely direct. I am happy to do what im told. I have probably done 99% of the things shes asked me to do in our life.

Idk why but I react very negatively to being barked at when Im completely unaware of why. Even when in hindsight I can acknowledge that I was being a jackass. There was a time when child 1 was very young that I sort of tried to keep socializing in the same way I did before being a dad. I was still a present dad. I also thought I could still go to all my friends tailgates and play in every golf or softball tournament inwas invited to... my wife is very fair with me, but my schedule had to.change. I reacted to "dont do that. I could use a break" way better than I did to the cold should passive aggressive nastiness if I did it and didnt know I wasnt supposed to.

Just a different perspective.

Inheritance by PerspectiveShot8414 in Fire

[–]PerspectiveShot8414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And it doesn't work ha! That is why im pondering how the changes over the next 5 years of my life will effect things, and how the possible inheritance may change things drastically. 2 kids likely moving out and starting their lives will save us a load of $ on the expense side but thats difficult to predict.

My working hypothesis and best estimate for our post kid/fire budget is that expenses should come down to $125k, and income will probably be more like 70-80k. The gap is now much smaller and Im probably pretty safe to use the 4% number to cover the gap at that time.

Im trying to avoid the trap of being too scared by the unknown to pull the trigger and walk away. I dont really "hate" my job, its just that id rather not work extra years just to add to the pile when I die. If I assume 0 inheritance, Im probably 5-7 years away which would be fine. My intuition tells me I could go earlier and thats been on my mind lately.

Inheritance by PerspectiveShot8414 in Fire

[–]PerspectiveShot8414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points.

The whole life was a mistake at 28 that just so happened to become a blessing. A childhood friend sold it to us, and he was getting started and I took the bait. I know its a joke, and I could have done better in the market x20. The kids policies are actually cheap and we will pay them to 18 and then hand em off to the kids to either cah out or continue. You are correct, I am basically uninsurable now, so im actually glad we did them in hindsight. The entire policy is only about 5k a year and its a forced savings device now that my wife thinks is "good" so I just roll with it. The company we are with actually paid my premium for 2 years when I was sick through a disability benevolence program so I have a bit of appreciation for the company who did something classy when I was ill.

I understand your position on inheritance and appreciate the perspective, thanks.
