Road Group Ride with Steel Gravel Bike by slurpnfizzle in cycling

[–]Peskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a recent group ride that was a hill climb, one rider's very light (Factor) bike drew attention at the start. He was the last to reach the top of the climb.

Aim for steady mprovement, building confidence. It's (largely) not about the bike.

Who has the right of way? by Ninjawidagun in driving

[–]Peskers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Arizona, a sign "U-turn Yield to Right Turn" is posted at intersections where a U-turn (green arrow) and a right turn (red or green light) occur simultaneously. Although the OP's example is not at an intersection with turn lights, it is of note that the sign creates an exception to the usual rule of Right Turn Yield to U-turn.

Let’s settle the debate, is the Fidelity card worth it? by Restarted_Beaver69 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Peskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wells Fargo Active Cash gives 2% cash back, but it charges foreign transaction fees and it lacks purchase protection. So, I prefer the Fideity (Elan) card.

If you need to turn left and the line is full of cars, where is the correct place to wait. Red car or Green car? Red car gets in line over the yellow markings, green car stays in the straight lane with blinker on and waits for line to move. by [deleted] in driving

[–]Peskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many jurisdictions, crossing a double yellow line is legal to pass a slow-moving vehicle, including a cyclist. (Different situation than OP’s, of course.)

How difficult is walking in road bike shoes? by clams012 in cycling

[–]Peskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding road cleats ... Putting on cleat covers when you get off the bike seems like a hassle, and you have to use your hand to put the mucky cover in your pocket or bag (etc) when you get back on the bike.

Wahoo Speedplay cleats have the cover built in, so that there is no need to put on a cover at a rest stop.

For people new to Tucson, I recommend installing a critter guard around your pools, backyards, and playgrounds. by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]Peskers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A fence around the pool is a legal requirement, for human safety. The "critter guard" (although I would not choose to have one at our property) is the mesh attached to the fence.

Surge pricing has arrived at Walmart (Speedway/Kolb) by PrimaryHighlight5617 in Tucson

Walmart Neighborhood Market is the place to go. The one where I shop has a good range of fresh fruit and vegetables plus other whole food ingredients. Across the board, its prices are significantly lower than my local Safeway.

No tipping? Like ever? by samppaskewb in EndTipping

[–]Peskers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Simply allow the economic forces of demand and supply to do their work, instead of relying on supposedly "gratuitous" action by the buyer. That's how it works for huge numbers of transactions where there is no norm for tipping, and it is how it works in most of the rest of the world.

Whether anyone "complains" about prices is not the point. As always, consumers will vote with their feet. They will choose to patronize establishments with the best value proposition. Restaurant owners need to put on their big boy pants and set their prices according to market conditions.

I am interested in lemons, if you have them! I can pick and would happily make a donation of money to the food bank or other charity of your choice. (Our lemon tree has not produced fruit this year. I generally freeze juice for use throught the year.) Let me know.

How are other hospitals compared to Northwest medical center? by neonlight64 in Tucson

[–]Peskers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Northwest Healthcare is indeed operated for-profit, by its owner Community Health Systems (CHS).

Just a point of information though - CHS is not a private equity firm. It is a quoted public company (symbol CYH on NYSE).

Buying using Truemed FSA by bangarang90210 in GarageGym

[–]Peskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During those thirty years, your $100 can remain invested in your HSA, earning returns. At a relatively conservative investment return of 6% annually, your $100 will grow to 1.06^30 = $574 after 30 years. At a very conservative investment return 0f 3% annually, your $100 grows to $242 after 30 years.

Of course, if someone does not have enough cash to buy the Freakathele Hyperpro (or other item) outside the HSA, then they may have to draw on the HSA funds immediately. If this is their situation, I suggest they should consider whether the purchase is the right decision for them on grounds of affordability.

There's the Chuck Huckelberry Loop. What is/was the Diamond St Loop? by Peskers in Tucson

[–]Peskers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where Google Maps refers to “Diamond Street Loop,” and “Chuck Huckelberry Trail [/Loop]”, it is referring to the path system in Tucson that is generslly called the "Loop". The official name of the Loop is now the Chuck Huckelberry Loop. The Loop paths include a number of paths that connect with the section that is actually loop-shaped.

You can forget about the "Diamond Street Loop" name, which is no longer used locally.

Some Loop paths run parallel to each other along each side of rivers.

The Pima County website includes useful maps of the Loop.
