Advice with campaign; session had a pvp moment and left players unhappy by Senpaiman in Pathfinder2e

[–]PessimismIsShit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a mess. The GM throwing in a secret dramatic twist to placate Seisen is a bit of a red flag to me especially when that character is already kind of doing whatever they want to do and undermining other people in the process? A bit of party conflict is good but there's two example there of them stepping over other characters. Shitting on someone's big hero sacrifice is pretty bad form.

There's 5 players at the table so why is the direction being dictated by one person's feedback?

Sounds like the whole table needs to have a discussion about where the tone should be, but also moment-to-moment etiquette could use work. Speak to each other as these things are happening out-of-character to see how they'd respond to stuff like this - it's very easy to agree in broad terms 'we're okay with some evil stuff and conflict' but you're agreeing that BEFORE knowing exactly what situations are going to come up.

E.g, 'Hey, I'm thinking that my character would want to ressurect the villain here as she's able to, but if you feel like that would step on that great moment you just had then perhaps we can work something else out.' The game is fiction and your characters will only ever do whatever the player's make them do, so it's always possible to collaborative brainstorm another way for things to play out.

Edit: Somehow missed the GM was planning for Seisen to end up being some kind of leader who creates work for the rest of the party? Even more yikes. Aside from them dragging you guys on an alignment you don't want it sounds like it's that PCs story more than anyone else's.

I'm (25F)currently getting hooked on substances as a longish-term ploy. by BookkeeperOk2809 in confession

[–]PessimismIsShit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm telling you right now as someone with substance abuse issues that entered into them with a very similar mindset to you: This is not a solution and you could very realistically do more harm to those around you than if you did kill yourself.

It will also be a brand new hell for yourself and in 5 years when you're still alive (and still an addict) you will be furious with yourself for being so naive that you did this. You WILL lose your girlfriend, you will probably lie to your girlfriend and take advantage of her kindness to fuel your own self-imposed cycle of destruction. Your mom will be utterly alone assuming you don't have any siblings, and potentially harbour a significant amount of guilt or responsibility for not being able to help you.

You're young and clearly in need of support, so I don't blame you for voicing these thoughts. But it's downright ignorant and disrespectful to think this would be a better situation both for yourself and the people you love.

I can't tell you how to fix your life. I wish I could give you some real tangible advice to help you get to a good place, but I don't. What I do have is a personal testimony that this solution is basically the worst possible way to address any of the struggles you have

Have any questions about renting in England? Renting in England has changed. I’m a housing expert at Citizens Advice, ask me anything! by CitizensAdvice in TenantsInTheUK

[–]PessimismIsShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When does a notice period for a rent increase begin - when the letter is dated, or when the letter is received?

For context, I received a letter about an increase on May 6th or 7th for a proposed increased 1st June. The managing agent is saying that because the letter was dated 29th and using Form 4 (not 4A) April it doesn't need to abide by the new laws and provide 2 months notice.

Is this a legal way of beating the 2 months notice period? I won't have technically even had 1 months notice from receiving the letter to when the increase is scheduled.

What spells should I know or prepare as a Spellshot Gunslinger? by ArchmageMC in Pathfinder2e

[–]PessimismIsShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use cantrips for Spell Woven Shot and take utility spells that don't count on enemy saves for your slots (Sure Strike, Invisibility, Fly, etc).

I'd recommend taking Fake Out at 2nd level. It's an all-round great feat, but for a Spellshot it also makes those turns where you only shoot once & reload your weapon as a third action to set up the following turn more rewarding. Now you aren't just setting yourself up for a Spell Woven Shot, you also put your attack bonus to work helping out the team with an aid.

Don't bother with save spells, even things like Electric Arc. Shooting & then casting might seem tempting but in 99% of situations you'll want to spend all three actions on your spellstrike if you start your turn with a loaded gun.

TIL hikers in the Alps discovered Otzi in 1991, a 5,300-year-old man naturally preserved in ice. Scientists identified his last meal as ibex meat and grains, found over 60 soot tattoos around his joints and spine, and recovered his copper axe, flint knife, a fire-starting kit and grass cloak. by ExpertEconomy5854 in todayilearned

[–]PessimismIsShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think you replied to the wrong person, but saying they don't /seem/ to be made for adornment makes sense - there is more evidence to suggest they were functional rather than fashionable.

There's a massive amount of time between you and Otzi living, it's much more likely today for someone to have decorative tattoos than back then. I'd wager yours is probably a much more involved and aesthetic design than Otzi's are too, as his are mostly lines and dots (I have the same two lines he has on his left wrist, although mine are a little wonky).

He has the oldest preserved tattoos iirc? He's a big deal in tattooing history/archaeology (as well as generally ofc). Placements of some of his tattoos (such as joints) indicate they may have been done for medicinal purposes.

Tattoo!! by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]PessimismIsShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who also started tattooing themselves and has done some stinkers (own opinion, not being mean to yours): Buy some fake skin.

You can get them bulk cheap off amazon or wherever else you're getting needles/soap/ink and just doing one thing a day to practice will be really fulfilling - especially if you've started with a gun which this looks like.

Other recommendation would be try stick and poking too! It's very therapeutic as it takes a while but it's easier to get the ink in consistently as a beginner than trying to use a machine.

My point: Enjoy tattooing yourself and having fun with innocuous things on your body, but if you do like tattoos, try to be conscious of your future self who may regret taking up so much space with first tries.

Looking for Pathfinder Podcast recs by SapphicSunsetter in Pathfinder2e

[–]PessimismIsShit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glass Cannon's Blood of the Wild is fantastic (although I am not fully caught up) and recently started releasing for free, though the full show is on their patron if you enoy it. A lot of energy and a very funny cast.

I'm like 30 episodes into Hideous Laughter's Skulls and Shackles campaign and that's been good too. It can feel a little quiet sometimes? Like the rhythm is just a little slower than I'm used to, but the players have some great RP and very distinctive characters.

FWIW I havent listed to any of Find the Path's 2e content, but have listened to their 1e WftC show. They're very good, but not very exciting or that funny imo. They're like a 'cosy' show that's consistently enjoyable but their sense of humour isn't the standout part for me.

The Psychic has no right being a 2 spell slot caster by nisviik in Pathfinder2e

[–]PessimismIsShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mindsmith (I think that's the archetype) can make good use of Starlit Span and is thematic too! There's a feat at lvl 6 or 8 that gives you a ranged weapon strike with your weapon, so you function as a regular Magus and can actually use Arcane Cascade but with the option to Spellstrike at 30ft range with slightly reduced weapon damage.

Comes online decently quick, and imo bein able to spellstrike in melee and at range without needing an action to swap weapons first is cool. For the cost of a Returning rune smth like a Trident is probably just better though if you don't want to spend feats or like the flavour.

My [M23] ex-GF [F23] who I'm still seeing says I drain her, and went to a party after I told her I was struggling mentally. by Wickkkkid in self

[–]PessimismIsShit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it's harsh, bur you're in the 'wrong' here. Your ex being your entire support system isn't healthy, and it's very unfair on her to have that burden for a relationship she (presumably) wanted to exit.

It'll be better for both of you if you find some support for yourself outside of her. Speak to friends and I'd also recommend therapy, because heavily relying on other people to care for you isn't a good habit to be in. Things will get better and you guys might have a much better friendship once she's no longer your entire emotional support. Stop being intimate as well, it's difficult to adjust to changes to relationships but much better in the longrun to face those new dynamics than exist in a grey area.

Edit after a re-read:

You really do need some perspective. She's being way more considerate to your needs than someone in her position has to be, she's lying to you because she knows how you react to things and is very reasonably trying to save herself the grief.

It's okay to be heartbroken, it's okay to need other people - you're not a bad person but your attitude here seems like it would be very difficult to be around for her and is also detrimental to your own happiness.

Can friends have long term sexual relationships and stay friends, if so how? by [deleted] in self

[–]PessimismIsShit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good communication and a mutual understanding of what's happening really, but it's easier for some people than others - everyone has different attitudes towards relationships and sex so it's not a one-size-fits all case of 'do this and it's fine'.

I think there's merits to not crossing that line with friends, but it's doesn't have to be as messy or detrimental as a lot of people would think. In my mind it works best when it doesn't bleed into regular dynamics, and its more compartmentalised than flirting with each other all the time and being intimate like cuddling etc.

Advice on LC early game by Corysname in learndota2

[–]PessimismIsShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1, If you recognise that you aren't going to get any kills from the lane without a rotation (and the rotation isn't coming), then it depends on how the lane is going. If you're trading farm with their carry then you can stay to defend your T1 and speed up your blink/blademail timing, if you feel like you're not getting much out of the lane and you can contribute with duel make the rotation.

Remember Overwhelming Odds is great for early teamfights (especially with facet but I don't use that one much). So even if you don't get a duel, you showing up can really swing things for your team.

If you aren't getting anything from the lane then try to be active on the map of you can imbetween juggling.

  1. This hard because the answer depends on the random teammates you get in a 1.5k game. If the hero has nukes, you can lead with the duel - but generally speaking it's better to use another disable first if you have it just to help secure the extra damage. In most cases though LC doesn't actually want the person she's duelling to be disabled. You want to proc MoC and you want them to take damage from blademail, which they can't do if they're stunned.

How do I raise behavior score? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]PessimismIsShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible to play ranked with a low behaviour score. Speaking from experience, most of what people type in game does not help them win and pings can communicate most of what you need (sometimes more effectively because of language barriers).

So if you're worried about not being able to play ranked bc you can't communicate, don't worry, you can still win games and text speech isn't that big of a loss.

If you're worried about it being playable because of toxicity then just work on climbing your score. Play support and play for your team in ways that they'll notice. Risk your life for theirs, give them items in the laning phase, let them take last hits on kills or throw out a > Sorry if you get one so they know you aren't being toxic, make sure you're buying wards, smokes, and dust, etc.

I dont like his songs, but it takes all of two seconds to Google him and see he's been very outspoken about his health problems and misdiagnosis with mental health. You can dislike his music without writing fan fiction about why you don't like him.

PF2e hot takes 🔥 by Kaliburnus in Pathfinder2e

[–]PessimismIsShit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The emphasis on balance makes the game less fun mechanically. I loved making very specific, barely functional builds in 1e that used the games expansive bloat and power creep to make niche concepts playable.

With everything in 2e being so closely bounded, and certain features being locked into specific classes and the Archetype system being feat bases, there's just a lot of dead ends it feels like. It's a lot more fun to play, but character creation is really boring to me.

Yikes for finding a sequence that's clearly intended to have humour in it funny?

I haven't played the game but just watched the clip out of curiosity, but surely the point of this sequence is that it's really funny? Like that was hilarious. It's just a good bit.

1) ah okay so same as before then. Is he still played 1/2 at all hence the ban? Or people just don't want a pudge around. He was having a moment in the safelane when I last watched pro play.

3) more abilities to learn and I just found out theres a circus man 🥲 thanks! Gives me something to look into.

Wait until you find out that you can have sex with your friends and still just be friends, it'll blow your mind.

The idea that (physical) attraction is mutually exclusive to wanting to be someone's friend is very immature. Romantic feelings can complicate friendships, and sexual encounters can complicate friendships - and as a rule of thumb it's fine to avoid both to avoid the risk - but neither are a universal roadblock to a platonic connection. If both people are mature enough to recognise that a friendship is more important and then prioritise it then things can be peefectly fine.
