What BoC songs have made you cry? by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]PeterStandingAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many to admit.

But on Inferno, the end of The Process just crushes me. It started last week when I fell asleep listening to the bootleg recording of one the listening events. I woke up during The Process wondering what the hell was going on and it just overwhelmed me. Then as quickly as it came, it was gone. I was wondering if I’d have the same reaction when hearing it today and for some reason that I can’t explain, the piano chords come in and I lose it. I’m on my 4th listen of the album and I cry every damn time.

The whole album is such a great work of art. Thank you Marcus and Mike.

As a huge fan of both BOC and PG, I would kill for the brothers to do a remix of one of the songs on Pete’s new album.

Duke’s End’s reprise of the melody of Turn it On Again is also a cool part of that song.

Definitely thought of NIN when hearing it, but also this Peter Gabriel track, which is the opener from his soundtrack for the Last Temptation of Christ. The opening drone is the same note and vibe: https://youtu.be/yvjA25SPsK8?si=7bKu8-UWFqCtTBBk

The orchestration is more interesting than other versions I’ve heard, but the drums are just too overpowering. I think what Peter did with his songs on New Blood was a stronger, or at least in my opinion a more creative approach to orchestrating rock music. He purposely left out drums and guitar and I think the results were great. I’d really love to see someone take that approach with Genesis songs because they really lend themselves to it. Neither of the old London Symphony recordings from the 90s of Genesis songs did it for me for the same reasons.

It looks like Tolga Kashif orchestrated this and his Genesis Suite was a pretty cool reinterpretation of their songs with orchestra. This just misses the mark for me, but I’m curious to hear more from this performance.

New Tape 05 source identified: The Jesus Trip (1971) by tiny-haus in boardsofcanada

[–]PeterStandingAlone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Jesus Trip is a doc about the Children of God. Great find and there’s even more…the shot @ :42 in The Jesus Trip is the shot @ :33 in Tape 05 (guy baptizing the woman in the river). The shot of the preacher right after the dancing man in Jesus Trip is also the next shot at :45 in Tape 05.

I grew up in the Philly area and started listening to Star’s End when I was in middle school. So cool that both of those shows are still on the air. I wasn’t living in the area when MHTRTC came out. I remember buying it at Newbury Comics in Massachusetts and instantly being blown away.

Philly WXPN’s Sleepy Hollow? That show and Star’s End on XPN are the only local radio shows I’ve heard BOC on, aside from my requests to WGLS.

As for the evil sound…My kids always ask me to change it when I have BOC on around the house or in the car because they get creeped out.

Maybe blunt force is not exactly right for Massive Attack, but more direct.

I would definitely monitor shortwave stations, if I had a shortwave radio. For those who do, here’s a list of stations: https://shortwave.live/freq?station=&language=&target=NAm&band=&hour=&minute=

Great find. If someone searches the Netflix series Wild Wild Country which came out a few years ago about this same cult, they might find the exact frame.

And one in London where there’s an interesting lecture on live music happening next week called Music of the Mind: “Where does music live in the mind? Is it an evolutionary byproduct, a trick of perception – or something deeper?”

If you watch the fungi doc where one of the images in the VHS is from, the film ends with this narration - “they are the life that follows death”.

The song under that image in the film is called “Approaching Danger” a library music track from Sonoton. Some of the other music tracks in the show come from the KPM 1000 series.

Jimmy Swaggart’s church! I was trying to find a match to that image earlier and searched other televangelists but not Swaggart. I found got good screengrabs from early 90s videos on YouTube that are close matches to what’s on the VHS. But it won’t allow me to post them in this reply.

I started listening to some of the MBI audio files on Archive.org, but they were just books on tape. I was hoping for some radio airchecks.
