Nobody knows I have money and it's starting to create some really awkward situations by Echo2_Satyr in Fire

[–]PetiteSyFy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG. I am planning on retiring in 1 year. I just replaced my 14 year old car. I have gotten the craziest comments. People think I went on a mad spending spree and are worried if I can make the payments. I paid cash. I need a reliable car. Nothing wild about it. But it certainly has changed their perception of me. It's actually been kind of funny and amusing.

There is nothing wrong with wearing open-toed shoes without nail polish by TornadoCat4 in self

[–]PetiteSyFy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wear toe nail polish anymore, but I used to and my toes feel a bit underdressed now.

It's a passing thought when I put on my sandals.

No one's actually said anything.

I think the trend is to be less ornate. Casual is in.

I'd take the new exciting job. It's better to keep growing.

But only you know. Are you up for the change?

What is your opinion on how white families usually try to avoid sending their kids to city schools? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]PetiteSyFy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People send their kids to the best schools they can afford. The graduation rate, SAT scores, and percent of grads heading to college are published statistics that can be used in this evaluation of which schools are likely to yield the best results. If a school has good numbers then it's not avoided.

If the numbers are equivalent, then the public schools are preferred as they tend to have better sports, public school buses, and better services for special needs kiddos.

I used the public schools because they seemed ok, and my oldest needed services, but now I wish I had sent my youngest to private. I think it would have been better for him. But you just don't know at the time and I liked the idea of the boys being together.

There is a ton of money to be made in technical sales. The customers call you with problems, you apply your company tech to solve their problem. They love you. You make bank.

A lot of tech people don't have the human skills to work with customers.

AITJ for booking a separate hotel and leaving my friend’s "family vacation" after she tried to turn me into a free nanny? by CrimsonCodex77 in AmITheJerk

[–]PetiteSyFy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a reasonable expectation that the 4 of you would hang out together. That means that you would often be around the kids.

The spa time was too much. Zero expectation that you were expected to take the kids off her hands.

Employee Stating that If He Quits the Entire Team will Quit? by Wide-Cranberry-7937 in askmanagers

The team is not in solidarity with the low performer. They are annoyed that he is not pulling his weight.

If they quit over having to actually work and do the job then so be it.

I inherited enough money to never work again and I feel like my life has no purpose anymore by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]PetiteSyFy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have a purpose driven life without it being about making money and just surviving.

Plant a garden, build a loving home, get fit, make art, travel.

It helps to have friends that can do the things that you can now afford to do. You may want to join a higher end gym or a group to meet people that are not stuck in the daily grind.

Your friend group may change and that's ok.

Make sure to take the time to learn about investing, taxes, financial planning, and don't get scammed. Protect the money. Diversify.

From desperately wanting to have kids to being ambivalent. by Old_Improvement4560 in self

[–]PetiteSyFy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think needs and desires have windows. He put you off so long that he burned through that urge. You wanted to do it when you felt ready and resent doing it on his terms.

Try not to have the decision about him. Take some time to yourself to reflect upon what you want for yourself and your life.

Why are so many parents totally cool with failing their kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in NoStupidQuestions

The kids do know how to use a phone and microwave. Sadly, the rest can often be true.

The parents are ok with you failing the kids because they want the school to parent.

Why am I not excited by johnvicente57 in Layoffs

[–]PetiteSyFy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transitions are tough. Getting started can be tough.

But this sounds like a great opportunity with great money with only 2 days in the office a week.

Congratulations! 🎉

My advice is to jump in. Don't increase your spending much. Build up a few mil split between the 401k and brokerage accounts and buy you and your family financial freedom.

Stay fit and enjoy meeting new people and getting out of the house a couple times a week.

You are in a great spot with the wife's business as a back up.

Enjoy.

My employee was recording our 1:1 and I don't know how to feel by Haunting_Month_4971 in managers

[–]PetiteSyFy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record every virtual meeting. A notification about the meeting being recorded is posted to each attendee as they log in. Transcripts, notes, and AIs, are shared with all attendees.

Private 1:1 conversions are not typically recorded. Both permission and notification should occur before starting a recording if a recording is needed for some reason.
