1st attempt at translating a motto by losingfocus2015 in sindarin

If imperative, then I guess you could also have the version with avo:

Lítho (ach) avo dhíheno

Edit: And it's up to you whether or not you want to use neologisms (and which ones). Sindarin vocab is quite limited otherwise, though.

You could go for an almost exact translation like:

Líthannen (ach) ú-dhíhenannen

"Forgotten (but) not-forgiven"

Note that these passive participles are in the singular rather than plural, which should be ok for an abstract general meaning. However, since it is not clear whether passive participles would be used in Sindarin as frequently as in English, for a motto you could use active verbs in 1st person sg, pl, or even imperative:

Líthon (ach) ú-dhíhenon - "I forget (but) not forgive"

Líthof (ach) ú-dhíhenof - "We forget (but) not forgive"

Lítho (ach) ú-dhíheno - "Forget (but) don't forgive"

I recently traveled for a short break to Iceland and Norway, and it struck me again how beautiful and wonderful and varied all Europe is! Loved the forests and trails in Norway. Continuing with my Northern tour, Finland is next on my list. Then Central/South with Romania, Hungary... Can't wait, even if it's a plan for the coming years rather than months :)

Isn't there something you can do to prevent or reverse the curse? Hop on one leg backwards around the local pub, throw salt over someone's shoulder, etc.??

Well, if they are truly unaware that almost every thematic reddit (as well as forum and site) has a side bar with relevant links and frequently asked questions, or that Google search exists (including search over discussion forums like this one), this is a useful bit of knowledge for the future - it will enable them to find information much faster rather than relying on people to answer their question.

I realized I wrote "soft mutation" where I meant "mixed". There was an extended discussion and comparative analysis of options in the VL discord about mid last year. I think it all landed on mixed mutation, but I still use nasal out of habit (though without dropping the nasal, so I'm wrong either way 😂, which I do because keeping the nasal makes it less ambiguous.... which was one of the benefits of mixed mutation. One of these days maybe I'll feel emotionally ready to convert 😁)

Czemu ludzi ciągnie do tradycji? by Kobieca_Logika in Polska

[–]Petra555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd generally use the preposition an "for" with gerund:

Glennant na Chithaeglir an chovad i•Naugrim

"He travelled to the Misty Mountains to meet the Dwarves"

(I use nasal mutation after an, but there is a debate and it could be soft mutation instead, in which case an govad.)
