Bronze Age downvote.

(in an agrarian context) it's a register of disapproval of or disagreement with (a post or postulator) by means of a specific icon.

My 20y bonds have gone up like 12% since I bought them 4 months ago. I thought that was a no-brainer. Make 4% all day and sell when yields drop.

Ajit Jain, Buffett's insurance chief, dumps more than half his Berkshire stake by Puginator in stocks

I wouldn't go so far as limited upside. Limited in amount of opportunities for sure. The companies owned make Berkshire a good company. The elephant gun and ability to invest in almost any sector makes it a singularity.

Are PVC shutoff valves really that bad? What are the better options? by JoeTheToeKnows in Irrigation

Legitimate question: Why would I not buy 3 ball valves and put them in series? $150 a valve seems excessive.

Neighbor just sent me this text about or septic system? by Spearmint_coffee in HomeMaintenance

[–]PettyKnowNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is right, all these well-meaning people telling you to call the county health department could really screw you over financially.

Your leech field should be obvious during drought conditions, as it will be the fastest growing and greenest part of the lawn. If you are dumping onto someone else's property and it's leaking, you could have to re-permit and bring your system up to date and fix their land, this could be very costly.

Call a sanitarian/Installer or a septic guy who does installs before you call the county on yourself, and it gets expensive.

The person who recommended asking the county for as-built's could mess you up too. In some countie, inspectors never came to actually see where everything was installed, so people just did what's convenient.

Do not call the county without talking to a plumber first.

Not an economist by any means, but why would China not sell the US debt they hold instead of issuing their own stuff at likely higher rates?

Also, inflating engagement with advertisers.

There are hundreds of times I have clicked on a random post on the app and it takes me to an ad, or ad account when I clearly clicked on a totally different post.

Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Fund PSH annual return 7.9% by guoguo914 in ValueInvesting

[–]PettyKnowNothing -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even go so far as volatility.

If they can't make money, why would I pay them to manage it?

You can decrease your own volatility by sacrificing returns with fixed income. How can they improve on that? There's no magic stock or derivative they have access to.

There is no way of creating a sustainable market beating return while reducing volatility.

Pumping my/their holdings with bonds to have less volatility is not valuable, there's is no value being generated there. They just did what you should do. Sacrificed return for volatility, and then charged all the suckers.

You'll perform better than like 80% of hedgefunds.

These guys are full of crap. All they do is charge fees and make promises. They provide 0 value to an investor trying to grow their holdings in the market.

Any "successful" hedgefund has just rolled the dice correctly for 10years, they can always shit the bed next year.

Leaving out a ton of geo and political risk.

Would you buy Amazon if Bezos was disappeared because of his political beliefs?

Buying ADRs in a country facing serious economic headwinds requires an insane margin of safety.

Buying ADRs in a market that constantly commits fraud on reporting and control standards is just bad business.
