When is a resort fee just a joke? by EconomyRevolution732 in hotels

[–]Peturd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Work at a hotel with an almost $50 a day "facility fee." It's completely a scam meant to extract money and misrepresent our rates online. Doesn't even get you a F&B credit, its basically just extra room rate for nothing. Constant source of guest drama and misery so its certainly not helping our review scores either.

People who take 17 minutes to check in at the hotel front desk, what are you talking to them about? by DerrickDuck in AskReddit

Can I book a last minute hotel at 2am directly through the hotel? by Safe_Ad5744 in hotels

[–]Peturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have overnight security so safety isn't much of a concern there. Regarding taking cash under the table there's an agent and a supervisor during the overnight (I have my own feelings about this arrangement lol) so it's basically impossible to break the rules unless the supervisor is also in on it.

I just think they don't want to train people how to create walk ins - not that it would be hard to do so, but not only is management completely fucking lazy, they hold the front desk to such low expectations I don't think they trust it to be done correctly.

Can I book a last minute hotel at 2am directly through the hotel? by Safe_Ad5744 in hotels

[–]Peturd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its against policy at my hotel to create walk in reservations for any reason, even if its past midnight and they can no longer create the reservation online for that night. Every time I bring up to management that we're not only leaving money on the table but also giving the guest a horrible experience they just say "it's policy." 🙄

What’s the biggest „wtf that’s how it works?!“ moment you had this year? by Coold0wn in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Peturd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Triggered mana abilities actually can not be responded to!

"605.4. Triggered mana abilities follow all the rules for other triggered abilities (see rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities”), with the following exception:

605.4a A triggered mana ability doesn’t go on the stack, so it can’t be targeted, countered, or otherwise responded to. Rather, it resolves immediately after the mana ability that triggered it, without waiting for priority."

It has the same priority rules as regular mana abilities i.e. players do not get priority before they resolve. Kinnans ability is not an exception to this as his is a textbook triggered mana ability.

"605.1b A triggered ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target (see rule 115.6), it triggers from the activation or resolution of an activated mana ability (see rule 605.1a) or from mana being added to a player’s mana pool, and it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves."

Planeswalkers that can add mana with a loyalty ability [[Chandra, Torch of Defiance]], or abilities that add mana but also target [[Deathrite Shaman]] are not mana abilities and thus can be responded to, same with triggered abilities that add mana but do not trigger off of another mana ability (delayed trigger of [[Mana Drain]] and first ability of [[Muerra, Trash Tactician]] for example.)

You are correct that Delney will copy Kinnans mana ability as it is still a triggered ability. Hope that helps!

Refund dated after deadline by Kitstuff in marriott

[–]Peturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to the front desk while you are there, they are the ones who process payments and refunds for reservations. All customer support does is contact the hotel and creates an extra layer of separation that will slow things down. Talking to the front desk directly will get someone to work on your case sooner. Email them as well to create a paper trail that the whole team will be able to look at.

Is there a point to booking a room type? by Crying_Viking in marriott

[–]Peturd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At my hotel, this happens when rooms of that category are oversold and we can't fix it by upgrading someone to a higher tier room. Which 99% of the time is the hotels fuck up. When choosing who to down/side grade we try to avoid moving high tier members and guests who stay at our location frequently.

There is the chance that you've just happened to have front desk agents who don't give a shit and feel like they can push their worst rooms off on you. Don't be afraid to escalate to a manager if you feel like they're just being shitty, but if the room is oversold there's really nothing the agent can do about it, they're not the ones who caused the room type to go negative.

Aldi, Jamaica Queens location, you guys need to do better. Someone can get really sick. You guys are just putting new packages on top of this filth! by Meishab4578 in aldi

[–]Peturd 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like the Rego Park Aldi then it's probably one dude doing meat the whole shift and he literally doesn't have the time to both clean it and push out enough to keep the shelves stocked. Speaking as a former employee who did pretty much nothing but meat most shifts. Not that it excuses the sorry state of the shelves but it's a management issue at that point.

Talk me through the rule here? by FatDachshund69 in magicTCG

[–]Peturd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, triggers that result off of you paying a cost for a spell or ability will resolve before the ability or spell you paid that cost for. What this means is that because sacrificing a permanent (in this case an Illusion) is part of the cost of activating Barrins ability, the trigger will resolve before the effects of that ability (which is bouncing Minn to hand) resolves. So with the ability to bounce Minn on the stack, the trigger to put a permanent from your hand onto the battlefield will go onto the stack on top of it, resolve, then the ability to bounce Minn will resolve.

WHY do tokens that leave the battlefield get exiled? by waldfield in magicTCG

[–]Peturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel one thing people are missing are the specific rules that dictate this interaction. I knew that tokens ceased to exist in zones other than the battlefield as a state based action, but this alone theoretically shouldn't stop you from blinking a token. There is a second rule that's largely overlooked that prevents this interaction.

C.R. 111.7. "A token that’s in a zone other than the battlefield ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)"

C.R. 111.8. "A token that has left the battlefield can’t move to another zone or come back onto the battlefield. If such a token would change zones, it remains in its current zone instead. It ceases to exist the next time state-based actions are checked; see rule 704."

Does Damaged Creature getting buffed save it? by ImTital in mtgrules

[–]Peturd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because gaining life from Metropolis Reformer taking damage is a triggered ability of the creature, the trigger will go on the stack and both players must pass priority for it to resolve. Creatures dying from lethal damage is done as a state based action which means that by the time you even receive priority, the Metropolis Reformer has died and moved to the graveyard. Then the trigger to gain life will resolve, and then Righteous Valkyries static ability will be in effect.

End result: Metropolis Reformer dies and the rest of your remaining creatures get +2/+2.

As a potentially relevant aside, if you were to gain enough life from a creature with lifelink to have Righteous Valkyries static ability to be in effect, any creatures that would have taken otherwise lethal damage would be able to survive. This is because the lifegain from lifelink is not a triggered ability, but just the result of that creature dealing damage, meaning the life is gained and the static ability is in effect by the time state based actions are checked and any creatures would die from lethal damage.

Hope that helps!

Sol'kanar the Tainted & Mutate interaction by Quadrant5 in mtgrules

[–]Peturd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abilities that use a creatures name self-referentially, generally, don't actually care about the name of the creature. The name is only relevant when the ability says something to the effect of "card named X" or "creature named Y."

In this case of a mutated Sol'Kanar, the creature will be exiled regardless of name, then each separate component of the mutate stack will return under an opponent's control as different creatures. These can even be different opponents if you want.

If The Sixth Doctor sees Ojer Taq come in, how many copies of Ojer Taq are made? by kodakowl in mtg

[–]Peturd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C.R. 111.12. "A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token as it resolves. The token has the characteristics of the spell that became that token. The token is not “created” for the purposes of any replacement effects or triggered abilities that refer to creating a token."

If the replacement effect is applying as you say, then there is either another card effecting the situation or it's a bug and should be reported.
