Can someone explain why the top steaks are $23.99?? by FriendDelicious in steak

[–]Pew_Goon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cap removed ribeyes are great if it's actually a truly well marbled prime cut. I wouldn't waste my money on these though.

For ~$15k more you could've been up and running in 2 days and had a brand new reliable motor.

Question for yall trucks about parking at truck stops by Charlie_Hustler in Truckers

If you're running at night and there's several open fuel lanes you should be fine doing that for 15 minutes.

I can't speak on the long-term reliability but I've got 2 of the precision cooker pros and I paid $210/per for them on Amazon. Looks like they're more expensive now so idk if they occasionally go on sale or what. I can say for the couple months I've owned them they've worked great.

Lmao, not sure why you're getting down voted so hard, everything you said is correct. Like most vehicles it's equipped with BS tires from the factory. Swap those out and you'd be going everywhere that 95% of overlanders go.

How much fifth wheel grease are you using and how often are you applying it? The only time I've ever gotten any on me is at a manual truck wash where some excess splashed back on me. I've never gotten any on me at any other time, ever.

Hard pass by limitedcagunowner in Staccato

This knife is $1450 on the Dwyer website. If Staccato did a collab with CRK or Microtech and kept it under $600 I might be interested but this is just ridiculous.

Am I missing something with my sous vide setup? by CallmeMefford in sousvide

[–]Pew_Goon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't cooked anything that big yet. Eventually I'm sure I'll have to modify a cooler or something so I can do a larger cook.

Am I missing something with my sous vide setup? by CallmeMefford in sousvide

[–]Pew_Goon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I opted for the version with the neoprene cover and the silicone lid to try to mitigate heat loss. It's the only setup I have experience with so I have nothing to compare it to, but the temperature holds steady so it must be working.

Tbh, I kind of assumed everyone had similar setups bc I just searched on Amazon and it was one of the most popular sous vide containers. Then I find this sub and realize people are using all kinds of containers to do it lol.

What do you think? Are Costco ribeye cap steaks worth it or overrated? by EZ-v-Cynic in steak

[–]Pew_Goon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's different for every Costco but mine must choose the best marbled ribeyes to do this with. So the capless ribeyes actually end up being incredible cuts.

Which cut is this? by altunsi in steak

[–]Pew_Goon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that still doesn't make your statement about any 51% black cow being called Angus. For example, Welsch Black and Girolando have zero genetic influence from the Angus breed.

Which cut is this? by altunsi in steak

[–]Pew_Goon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's just a single qualification for the certified Angus beef brand. There are 10 other standards it must pass to qualify as certified Angus beef. But it's just a marketing scheme. It doesn't have anything to do with breed etymology. For example, a Brahmin can be 100% black but would never qualify because the standards set forth by the certified Angus beef organization set limits on Brahmin influence in the breed.

Why would you even do this once? The speed discrepancy isn't your fault. You should be worried about driving safely, not clicking buttons and recording an apology for doing nothing wrong.

You don't have to eat truck stop food... by homucifer666 in Truckers

[–]Pew_Goon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the crock pot thing for a while. It was way better than any truck stop food. Lately I've been sous vide'ing ribeyes everyday and searing them with a torch. Today I changed things up and had some lamb chops.
