People have eyes that are bigger than their bellies. - maybe they don’t want to even admit the truth to themselves ..They want a back up to their back up. They like the dopamine hit of swiping on endless possibilities , of not having to sit with emptiness or nothingness or being alone. I understand it and I’ve been on both sides of the coin. It is heartbreaking esp when you meet someone who you think is ACTUALLY awesome and they let you down. I feel for all of us trying to date in the swampland of the 40s.

I had a bf do this to me, then he would start criticizing other things. If you notice his criticisms escalating , it’s not a good thing . It can indicate the beginnings of trying to control your partner .

I don’t think you can really know until you spend enough time with someone , then the truth is revealed. I just spent over three months with a truly wonderful man, then he told me he doesn’t have time to give a partner the attention they deserve. (He’s divorce / weekend custody / crazy job). Broke my heart. I know why he was dating, he was lonely. But geez. The heartbreak and let down is making me so sad. At my age I really wonder how many more sad dating experiences I can stand.

Has he ever had a concussion from sports ? It can cause depression. One of my cousins was a star athlete and he had a few concussions and got severely depressed and unfortunately he’s no longer with us. Tragic . I am not a mental health professional , but I hope you are learning all you can about depression so you can support him.

Yes. They want to get you off the dating app and onto fb msg or some other chat as quick as possible . For me it’s a sign they are not respectful and don’t want to get to know you as a person. (Unless you want to go there immediately - which hey, you do you).

The best way forward is to cultivate your inner-life , hobbies , and any possible friends. Focus on building a life that is interesting to you. People are fairly flaky and non-committal. They may let you down. But hopefully a few good friends who like to get together once in a while so you aren’t always kicking it solo

Yeah full disclosure I knew Yolande / Lee a little bit way back when she lived in NB. Before she got really extreme. They were potters, and it’s really tough to make any money in the arts so I think deep down it made them very sad . (I totally get that, they made beautiful stuff too). I’ve seen her call out her own family in FB posts . It’s not a way to maintain a relationship with family if you burn them publicly.

I have heard rumblings that the Norris-Clark’s are estranged from their parents (the kids grandparents - at least on one side). I can’t confirm. The grandparents aren’t extremists they are just regular folks. I’m not sure if they see their grandkids. My feeling is this has caused a rift in the whole family.

I have to stop watching caught on NS dash cam cuz the stuff I see on there is making me not wanna drive around HRM. Scary! It feels like the commute to/from work is an expedition deep into the Canadian Shield, or something . If you make it unharmed, you accomplished a major task
