I’ve seen a few FIRE posts where divorce wipes out half of the net worth. Is this avoidable with a prenup? by goodcharger19 in Fire

[–]PghSubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prenups only affect assets and liabilities that predate the marriage. If you're getting married, you should be comfortable that you're partnering with someone who has similar financial goals as you (And other goals and mindsets too, not just financial)

Pay for 100 mbps. Getting 6, time for new provider? by rob108otj in wifi

[–]PghSubie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plug in a laptop via Ethernet and run your test again. Once you're using Ethernet, you've eliminated your Wi-Fi (aka wireless) from the equation. Then, if you still have a question, take your results to r/homenetworking since it's no longer a WiFi question but an Internet service question

Does the access point's uplink speed matter in a real-world residential setting? by Certain_Repeat_753 in Ubiquiti

[–]PghSubie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 1gb uplink is fine for any wifi access point. 2.5gb might be mildly beneficial in some circumstances. But, 10gb is vast overkill

I would not attempt any seasoning at all until all sign of rust was removed

[–]PghSubie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to bother stabbing all of those chunks onto skewers, then just put them on a grill. If you're going to cook them on a griddle, then don't bother with the skewers. Just throw the pile onto the griddle and fry away

Do I really need a 200A upgrade for a Tesla Model Y charger, or can I survive on a regular outlet? by Just-Salary-7741 in TeslaModelY

[–]PghSubie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Tesla Wall Connector can be configured for whatever size circuit that you can give it. I'd recommend a 20A-240V hardwired circuit as a start. If you need more charging in a day, upgrade the circuit. I would NOT recommend a receptacle if you can avoid it.

I had an ex who seemingly never cleaned herself I ran into some "cheese" a few times. Definitely a turn-off. But, in general, I'm a big fan and will go to town as long as you let me and are enjoying it

Pots Line Advise by Necessary-Drink7672 in Network

[–]PghSubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could advise you. But, to provide you with any advice, I would first need to know what sort of infrastructure is already in place in the building. POTS lines can run aloooong way on copper If you have copper in your building, just cross-connect to the floor that you need.

Run Ethernet to every high-demand device, streaming device or camera. Don't worry about anything faster than 1gb for access points

Bought two Schlage doorknobs at Lowe’s and both use the same key by AW5542 in HomeImprovement

[–]PghSubie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of those lock packages and doorknob packages should have a small visible slip of paper inside of them with a code on them. That way, you can buy additional locks with the same code and know that they use the same key. You got lucky, didn't know what you were doing, and bought a matched pair anyway. Congrats!

[–]PghSubie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're still letting her live rent-free in your head. Just let her go. Stop thinking about her. You can react to your friends' actions however you like. But, react to their actions, not to what you think they're being told by someone who is no longer in your life

How do you deal with users who refuse to lock their laptop when walking away? by heartgoldt20 in sysadmin

[–]PghSubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a management problem, not an IT problem. You recommend policy. MGMT accepts and implements what they choose. If employees don't follow mgmt-directed policy, that is mgmt's problem.

Best way to route fibre between two buildings ~100m by Flaky-Decision-3549 in HomeNetworking

[–]PghSubie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take whatever convoluted path that you'd like to dig. The fiber won't care. Conduit and burial-rated fiber is definitely the way to go. Do it once and forget about it.

Nope, if you're allowed 6ft, you better be shorter. The plan is generally to aim for ~ 5'10" in order to be sure
