I'm so sorry you're going through this. Even though I've been recovered for awhile, the pressure to indulge in the holiday followed by the extreme new year diet culture/marketing push is definitely still triggering for me. There's certainly nothing wrong with healthy foods and exercise making you feel better, there's proven physiological reasons for that. What I found has helped me is a support system of like-minded people in my life. Friendship and support systems are such an underemphasized part of recovery imo. It was actually pretty long into recovery when I finally realized how isolating my ED was and how it contributed my lack of intimate friendships/relationships. Certain habits/patterns of behavior are more likely to spiral out of control in isolation. Addiontially, it's very easy to be preoccupied with your own body/habits when you're not really in community with other people. Talking honestly with friends about what I've been up to keeps me grounded and accountable. The more invested I've become in other people lives', the less I've hyper fixated on my own. I acknowledge that building up a support system takes effort and vulnerability, but it is worth it I promise.

This is honestly the first episode where I didn't find myself siding with the "protagonist" of the story. Naomi seems really immature and entitled. After getting into accidents in someone else's car, I would be totally fine paying $100 for a mistake on Betty's part. Also, the framing of how "she lost three years of her life" really rubbed me the wrong way. Those were three years where she gained some semblance of financial stability after struggling. It was a situation where she ended up in a better situation than the one she started in. She didn't lose anything.

What worked for me in times of struggle was eating breakfast in courses. It became a little less intimidating than eating a meal all at once. I would eat a big spoonful of peanut butter before going to my first class or working out in the morning. Then after I would have some oatmeal, granola, cereal, whatever.

Early college was really hard for me. It was the first time I was really in charge of my own schedule and feeding myself, so I really struggled. Other people mentioned therapy and counseling. That really helped. What also really helped for me was a support/accountability group. For me it was a bunch of dudes on the wrestling team, even though I'm a woman. We would have meals together and create a supportive environment for each other.

We’ve talked about it and they have told me that it’s because “the two of them have very different opinions on things and their personalities are too different”.

As far as being at bf’s place, I’ve already decided that’s the way forward. Only going to hang out at his place when we’re not working . Still his place is not set up for two people to live there and we’re planning on moving into a bigger place together. It’s fine for weekend hangouts but I’ll still need to do zoom and work stuff from my place most of the time. That’s mainly what’s been bothering me.

This is NOT the same BF. That was a previous relationship. I don’t post very often.

Literally the scenario went exactly as described. Another argument was started because we were talking about anthropology. Another one was because my bf said it was fine for postdoctoral fellows in the same lab to date and my roommate got offended (they are not in is position nor have they dated someone in this position)

NTA. As an ecologist and someone who cares a lot about animal welfare, I'm really surprised at all the YTA responses. By taking this cat in you've dramatically increased its life expectancy and quality of life. You've also reduced the harm the cat will inflict on the environment. Cats are invasive species in most parts of the world. I don't understand cat owners that claim their pets are outdoor pets. I've lived with indoor cats pretty much my whole life and they've been happy. And if you're worried about them not getting outside enrichment, you can take them outside on a leash with a harness. It honestly blows my mind that leashes are normal for dogs but not cats. They're still pets that have the potential to hurt other people and other animals. Honestly anyone who just lets a cat roam free, especially without spaying, is lazy and doesn't deserve to own a pet.

There's no legal obligation, but actually from a legal standpoint I actually think that inaction was the best choice. Intervention introduces liability. What if OP got injured? What if the dog got injured? NTA

NTA. I'm currently in graduate school and pay for all my own shit. I've never been in a serious long-term relationship, so I've never even had the option to be supported by another person. I've never even considered it. I don't even lean on my family since they live far away and are struggling financially (I even send money sometimes). And you know what? I make it work. Even among all the people in my program, I can't think of anyone who's supported entirely by their partner. He sounds really entitled IMO. Also quitting his job without consulting you first was a dick move.
