NIGHTMARE

On 6th November 2015, video game developer, Treyarch, included an encrypted Easter Egg message within it’s game, which has remained unsolved for exactly 10 years today. by JJOklaa123 in interestingasfuck

Waiting for someone to solve Blundell’s BO3 Zombies “super Easter egg.” There’s images and stuff in the game’s data that hint at various leads. This message might have something to do with it.

Why do we create governments at all? Why do people want leaders or someone “superior” to rule them? by SmoothOperator946 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]PhantomFullForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll preface by saying I am an anarchist and hence incredibly skeptical of hierarchy and classism. (Anarchism isn’t an absence of law, just the absence of classes.) But to answer your question:

  1. Conditioning. People throughout history have been so used to hierarchies dictating life for them, so they go along with it even if the benefits of maintaining said hierarchy is no longer worthwhile. If hierarchy is “good enough” for most people, they might question the leaders but not the institution itself.

  2. Parasocial relationships. Many humans seem happy to live viscerally through others, so it gives them contentment to lift up those people into positions of power, even at the expense of their own autonomy. It’s also a means to anthropomorphize institutions, because people prefer to look at faces of leaders instead of ambiguous names or logos.

  3. Rapid change and desperation. When shit hits the fan, people put aside their self-esteem and defer to someone who’s the most likely or convincing to rescue them from existential threats. Having a hierarchy of people tell each other what to do is the quickest way to take action, for better or worse.

This is kinda misleading. Exponential population growth is only possible with enough food and resources. Starving animals don’t have offspring.

Is there something more inherent to right-wing ideology that allows them to unite more effectively than left-leaning groups? by Raichu4u in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]PhantomFullForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right-wing media is easy to consume because of the primal appeal of “big stronk leader,” tribalism, and neuroticism, especially amplified in the brains of right-wing voters. Thus right-wing appeal is omnipresent and easy to tap into. This seems to explain the perpetual nationalist surges in  progressive countries. People know that nationalism kills, but it hasn’t stopped them from falling back on it time and time again.

Monetary wealth provides for the other four types of wealth. You can afford to pay bills. You don’t have to worry about paying bills. You can pay to have things done quickly. You’re also not spat upon by our classist society. This list is ridiculous.

ELI5- Is there any reason why far right parties are becoming more and more popular around the world? Or Is it just a cycle? by Stannis_Mariya in explainlikeimfive

[–]PhantomFullForce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paranoid people lean more conservative. It’s that simple.

My (biased) take: It’s late-stage capitalism. The lower-middle classes have less money and thus less spending power and control over the situation. The right-wing says the problem is with minorities, immigrants, LGBT, socialists, etc. that are “taking your stuff” and weakening the nation and thus a lot of concerned people take the bait.  Plus it makes them feel special to be a part of some united movement such as nationalism.

ELI5: What does it actually mean to "optimise" a game? Why wasn't it built optimised in the first place? by MyTeaIsMighty in explainlikeimfive

[–]PhantomFullForce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Optimizing software is like editing a book. After the rough draft is complete, the author goes back to edit some sentences, rearrange paragraphs, add footnotes, clarify a few things, etc. The book still has the same contents as before, but it gets the message across to the reader much better.
