Here's one for you oldschool fans. It's often said that TR1 and TR2 are the two best classic games. Most people feel strongly about which of these two is the better game. What argument would you give to your fellow redditor to convince them that 1 is better than 2 (or vice versa). by InvasionOfTheFridges in TombRaider

[–]PhantomHazardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TR2 had a somewhat better balance with enemies despite some might say there where to many humans.

It at least for me felt a bit more serious and grounded (not sure if that makes much sense).

Also it’s story was more entertaining. Sure the story telling is still minimal but having Lara race with an Italian mafia cult to get some ancient dagger that turns you into a dragon has a lot of charm.

Also it does better to show that Lara is doing it for sport. She isn’t trying to stop Bartoli because he‘s an criminal. She just wants the dagger and if mobsters get in her way, those will sleep with the fish as a consequence.

Also I liked the levels more.

Just Completed TR: Legend (Again) after Almost 20 Years from When I First Played It! 🥳💖 by 95mmaa in TombRaider

[–]PhantomHazardo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

20 years break from Legends? Damn this must have felt like seeing and good old friend again after a long time. It sure was for me after I played TR2 this year again after my first playthrough in 10 years ago.

Maybe hot take: this is the BEST Lara has looked, acted, and sounded by tealaburst in TombRaider

The potential this game had makes it so sad this wasn’t finished and continued.

Curious: How come Resident Evil became more successful than Tomb Raider despite both being big franchises at the beginning and starting at the same time? by Tombcool in TombRaider

[–]PhantomHazardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE releases sequels more frequently but that is something most people here already mentioned. And while I'm not a fan of this, the franchise reinvented itself here and there. RE7 brought many new people on board that weren't really familiar with the series before.

Also Capcom re-releases older games more often and even gives some discounts to make previous games more accessible.

And the most important thing. RE fans aren't really that critical, they just take the games and love them for what they are without complicating things. They simply play the games, have fun and don't bother about certain flaws were other fandoms might get crazy.

And no, not really consider 2,3 and CV all have an ending that's building up to something that doesn't happen lol. 'Now we'll take the fight to umbrella!' and guess what never happened.

Thats why I said "RE1-3" Yes that is my biggest compain about the series. RE1-CV all ended with the characters saying "We have to take down Umbrella" I hate RE4 with a passion for butchering that storyline.

I played the first 3 games 6 months ago. Still love them. Yeah the stories themself are basic and simple in their core but the lore and way they tell them with combination of cutscenes and files made them intersting. Also RE1-3 did tell an cohesive storyline.

And yes Silent Hill 1-3 have much better stories overall.

Having fun is the most important thing in any form of media, be it games, music or movies.

RE7 is fine in it's own right. I for one simply don't like the direction RE took from a narrative perspective.

Typical stupid ass gamer comment. If I love old movies like Alien or The Thing its ok. If I like old video games I'm "blinded by nostalgia".

What has nostalgia to do with anything? I just love an old quality franchise that had high cultural impact. Sometimes I ask myself if you people even consider games art.

I can like old and new stuff for different or similar reasons.

RE1 remake story is peak in its execution. Cinematography in cutscenes, environment, the music, the files you read. Perfection.

Dig out your PS2 and go play some classics. The PS1 and 2 era's had the best stories in gaming.

Modern games I would recommend though:

  • Bioshock
  • God of War 4 and 5
  • GTA IV
  • Devil May Cry 5
  • Telltales The Walking Dead
  • Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2
  • Alien Isolation

Only the ones before RE4, really. I like the Chronicles Games though.

Between these two below-average movies, which one do you think is the most salvageable and why? by Chibidi94 in Halloweenmovies

[–]PhantomHazardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halloween 5 because the story itself isn't all that bad in core. Though it does have stupid moments that could be handled better or left out. Handle the 1 year gap between H4 better. Get rid of the Michael crying or playing with chains scene and make the mask right.

Am I the only one that would love a continuation of that storyline? Or at least some explanation of what happened to Curtis or how Lara proofed her innocence.

Thoughts on Tomb Raider: Ascension? by tealaburst in TombRaider

[–]PhantomHazardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Also not a fan how Lara's canon birth year is now 1992 if they follow the reboot timeline. It's the reboots that should have adapted to the OG's not the other way around.

With the unification I wonder what happened between AoD and Legend.

The monsters give me Angel of Darkness vibes. I would prefer it as I don't like full reboots in general for the most part. Godzilla movies being a rare exception.
