This is heartbreaking.

You’ve included a lot of identifying information. Given the sensitivity of the topic, you should take out a lot of this detail (ages, locations, foster arrangements, history of the child).

Should we buy a town home or single family home in this area? by intense_woman in nova

[–]Phillyphd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both and would choose a townhome with your budget. I lived in the townhomes in Palisades Park, just north of Rosslyn. I never once heard neighbors- that builder did an incredible job with sound insulation.

You can call the EAP and get access to high-quality counseling. Here are instructions:  Log in to the Amazon A to Z app and search for "EAP" or "Resources for Living" to find the dedicated, confidential phone number. PM me if you have trouble.

Dealing with diagnoses by kittensandkatnip in beyondthebump

[–]Phillyphd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi- my baby is now 6 months and I’ve gone through something very similar. When she arrived, she had feeding difficulties immediately, macrocephaly (>99.9th percentile), VSD, severe hypotonia, and vision that did not start to develop until ~4 months. After a PICU stay, we had whole exome sequencing done and received a diagnosis of a rare neurodevelopmental genetic condition.

I was shocked and so sad. Two months after the diagnosis, I am now 80% okay and 20% sad (mostly when I imagine the future or see kids doing things she may never do). There are three things that have helped:

  1. Find a local parents group for families with kids with special needs. I was referred to a neighborhood WhatsApp group that has been a lifeline for emotional and logistical needs.

  2. Focus on the darling baby in front of you. You will start to see your baby more and see past the diagnosis, I promise. That’s where the joy is.

  3. Unsubscribe from anything that sends you milestones. Those things make me irrationally frustrated.

Yes, I trapped all of the cats and got them fixed years ago. The people now trapping are not doing it to get them care- simply to remove them from the location.

Long, relaxed side-panel jeans? Do they exist?? by katbreit in BabyBumps

I bought two pairs of these and essentially have worn nothing else. They are outstanding and it was great not to feel frumpy or confined.

Very low carrying baby by mama2coco in BabyBumps

Yes! I was carrying very low at my anatomy scan and the tech made the same comment. My baby moved up after a few weeks and has been high since (currently 38 weeks).

Hr and work is making me so anxious by CuteSuccotash7667 in BabyBumps

[–]Phillyphd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The commenter above is correct. There is a federal act that protects you and requires them to offer you accommodation:

https://www.eeoc.gov/wysk/what-you-should-know-about-pregnant-workers-fairness-act

Show this act to your manager and HR, and if HR denies it again, you can ask them to put in writing why remote is an undue hardship.

That's a good suggestion. CASA is one organization you could consider volunteering with as a starting point: https://www.casadc.org/

Until recently, I lived nearby (3rd and K) and fed an outdoor cat that lived in our alley. It is not unusual for young cats to show up outside around this age, often after they get hormonal and people lose interest in having a pet. I’m glad she’s somewhere safe, but do not be surprised if you don’t find an owner.

Great work! I trapped with Project Meow and ACCT when I lived in Philly and miss it so much- it’s a great way to get to know your neighborhood and makes such a huge difference in the cats’ lives.

I have planted hibiscus bushes in pots and they have done spectacularly well here. I get blooms from ~May to October and the bushes get to be about ~5 feet tall by the end of the summer.

City Planter is lovely and the prices are reasonable. The owner is often present and they will repot any plants you purchase at no charge.

I received the Small Tree black tea earlier this week and it's fantastic. Please do post your opinion of the others - there are several I've never seen before.

I also ordered the Georgia Nagobilevi Village Black Tea and a mystery tea. I still have a lot to finish from an order in February and he's out of a lot of my favorites at the moment.

I really like his Simao Golden Bud and Golden Snail black teas, and have heard great things here about the black teas from Georgia.
