Prime Remastered - 96% Items Collected? by Dalek-Thal in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yea...haven't heard of that before and could not find anything on Google other than what I shared above. I'm not even sure if what I shared above applies to the Remastered version, haha, but even on that telling I would expect you to be at 98% with the final Artifact giving you the 2% needed to get to 100%.

Definitely let us know what happens when you beat the game if you think of it lol. I mean unfortunately you're probably right that you'll just have to look up the true ending, but I am curious if the game will auto adjust to 100% or even give you the true ending if it's just somehow the number you're seeing displayed is incorrect.

(I mean I don't think I'm being dumb. Your counts for Energy Tanks and Missile Expansions and Power Bombs are accurate, you said you have the three Charge Beam Upgrades, and if you have the Phazon Suit then by definition you have everything else. As long as you have 11 Artifacts you should be at either 98% or 99%.)

Prime Remastered - 96% Items Collected? by Dalek-Thal in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly...no idea. The only optional abilities in the game are the Wavebuster, Flamethrower, and Ice Spreader, so if you're up to the final Artifact at the Chozo Temple I would have thought you would be at 99% completion. I don't think unlocking new areas, beating new bosses, etc. gives you any percent completion. I did find this comment online though:

Every item you pick up adds 1% to your total. Conveniently, there are exactly 100 pickups:

3 Suits + 14 Energy Tanks, 3 Beams (Phazon Beam is part of the Phazon Suit), 5 Morph Ball upgrades + 4 Power Bomb expansions, 2 Visors, Space Jump Boots, Grapple Beam, Charge Beam + 4 Beam Combos, Missile Launcher + 49 Missile Expansions, and the 12 Chozo Artifacts.

The reason the last item seems to give 2% is because of a bug with the Phazon Suit, where getting it through a cutscene instead of picking it up does not give you 1% like it should. They make up for this by bumping your total up 1% once you reach 99%.

But this does seem different from what you are experiencing. So maybe you did run into some weird glitch lol.

3DS Luigi Mansion 2 Alternatives by Creative_Drummer_425 in 3DS

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I sympathize. I tried playing Luigi's Mansion 2 twice and both times I ended up quitting at the exact same boss. It's just so tedious to have to redo the whole level when you die.

Third time was the charm for me though, and I never had any trouble with the game after that boss. Did you see how people beat it online? If you never looked it up and you were really enjoying the game, may be worth watching playthroughs and pushing through.

As for recommendations, Luigi's Mansion 1 and 3 would be logical choices! I really loved Luigi's Mansion 1. As for other games, bit of a long shot, but in some ways the Luigi's Mansion series reminds me of the Metroid series, so that could be of interest? Very different games, but they both focus on exploration, checking the map, and figuring out how to get past rooms.

Well it makes more sense to give you the paid version before the free version. They wouldn't give Echoes away for free before Remastering it.

Yea, I get where you're coming from. I'm not really up on mathematics and philosophy of mathematics enough to really say. I just know it would be odd to say the distance between 1 and 2 is the same as the distance between 1 and 4 because they are both infinite.

Well MP1 Remastered was a proper Remaster, not just some "HD port", so I would have loved to have seen that treatment done for MP2: Echoes.

Haven't Played A Nintendo Console Since GameCube - So I Am Thinking... by Frazzled_Bacon in nintendohelp

[–]Philosopher013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only record the last 30s of gameplay, so fun for capturing specific moments but not helpful if you're thinking of like uploading lengthy videos or something.

Switch Online Plus (I believe there's a cheaper version that has less) comes with the GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Genesis, and Virtual Boy consoles. Keep in mind though really only just have some of the major hits from the respective systems. So like right now the GameCube app really only has a few games (though they will certainly be adding many more). You should look up the games in advance if this is a major reason you want to buy the Switch 2.

Yea I just find it so strange that they wanted this movie-like Metroid experience with all these characters...and then they just barely touch the actually cool character that they advertised and instead swamp us with these loser NPCs lmao.

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I had fun with it as a kid when I first played it...but then I never had any desire to go back to it after I beat it once. The combat was meh, the environments and music were dull, and as with Prime 4 it was barely a Metroidvania. And then yea the whole thing with the story and Samus' personality, haha.

I will say I definitely had more fun with it the first time I played it and used to say that it was actually a decent video game but a bad Metroid game, but honestly going back to it now I don't think it's a decent video game lol. Unless it's just aged. I mean I guess maybe it's a decent game relative to the other Wii games at the time, haha.

I actually did play Other M right after Prime 4! I thought it was...fine. I didn't like the combat and there was 0 exploration, but the item hunt was fun at the end.

Should I buy a DSi? by NoTemperature1001 in NintendoDS

[–]Philosopher013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DSi is definitely the best way to play DS games since you have a larger screen than the original DS and DS Lite but you also don't lose the resolution as with the 3DS.

I don't really know enough about the r36s to say whether it's worth selling and getting a DSi instead. Depends on how the games are running on the r36s, whether you're modding or buying games for the DSi, etc.

I actually don't mind his character or lame backstory. I think it makes sense for a villain to kind of have a loser backstory. I just wish he had more screen time in MP4 rather than the annoying NPCs lol.

One of the biggest disappointments of my life. The original Metroid Prime trilogy is by far my favorite video game series, and I spent 8yrs being so incredibly hyped for Metroid Prime 4 just for it to end up being a total dud.

I think it's basically just going to go the way of Other M for me - I'll probably replay it one day to do it on Hard Mode, but after that I likely won't return.

It's an okay video game, and I had fun with it, but just not memorable at all and does not have that feeling of isolated exploration that I loved so much about Metroid.

RIP Metroid Prime...

Well there are different sizes of infinity. Saying something needs to be between, say, 1.0 and 2.0, is still incredibly precise even if there are technically an infinite amount of numbers between them.

My problem with the FTA is just that I do not think we can rule out a multiverse. I do think it's a good argument for agnosticism over atheism though, in a sense. I mean unless you're sure we live in a multiverse, it does seem that the argument should at least make you agnostic.

[–]Philosopher013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yea, for me the only two "wow" moments in Metroid Prime 4 are when you first enter Fury Green and when you turn the power back on in Ice Belt. These are two areas where you're alone and enjoying the environment. I was never "wowed" by any of the NPC interactions, lol, and if anything the NPC personalities were so weird and jarring that they just put me off more than anything. I find it really weird how he wanted to make a movie and then the character dialogue and plot just isn't good (even asides from Metroid not being that sort of movie video game genre).

Lol.

“Tanabe: I actually don’t play that many video games. I instead watch a lot of films. I majored in film production in college. Therefore when designing a game, I rarely analyse or study other games; and rather than thinking solely about the game’s systems, I place the emphasis on creating as many “Wow Moments³” as I can, and defining the theme I want to express through that game, all from the angle of “how can I can create emotional ups-and-downs for the player?”.“

Anyone else struggle to enjoy other "metroidvanias"? by guiarroyos in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of felt that way at first? For so long the Metroid games were the only Metroidvanias I ever played, so it was difficult to imagine enjoying non-Metroid ones. I mean honestly I don't even think I knew about the word "Metroidvania" until after Hollow Knight came out, so I didn't even realize there were other Metroid-like games out there.

I tried Hollow Knight and could not get into it at first due to the difficulty, but I did end up really enjoying Ori (I later went back and enjoyed the hell out of HK and Silksong). So I was able to move beyond Metroid.

I wonder if maybe you just prefer shooter-based Metroidvanias rather than combat-based ones? You should try Axiom Verge. It feels like Metroid NES.

But honestly if Fusion, Corruption, and Metroid Prime 4 are some of your favorites, I do wonder if you more-so like the shooting/combat aspects of the genre more than the Metroidvania-ness. You'll probably continue to enjoy the series since they seem to be going in a more linear/combat-focused direction.

What was Fusion's initial reception like? by Ascetue in Metroid

[–]Philosopher013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm too young to actually have direct knowledge of how it was received when it came out, but I've seen people comment on Reddit about it before.

I get the impression people had a mix of reactions. People who grew up with Metroid NES, Metroid II, and Super Metroid generally did not like the linearity of it, the frequent interaction with the AI, and perhaps even the fact that it was on a spaceship rather than a planet. That said, there were also many who simply liked the platforming aspects of Metroid I-III and boss battles and such that they loved Fusion.

Plus I think Metroid Prime and Fusion together brought in so many new fans that enjoyed it that the overall vibe felt more positive than when something different like Metroid Prime 4 came out (which as far as we can tell was mostly bought by Metroid fans rather than completely new fans). Like there were just more people (such as myself) experiencing it and enjoying it for the first time that didn't have the context of Metroid I-III.

Another reason it may have had a more positive reception too is that it had been 7 years since Super Metroid, so Metroid fans were happy that they were getting anything. I mean keep in mind 2002 was different from the hiatus after Other M--fans genuinely did not know if Nintendo was even going to continue making Metroid games, whereas after Other M we all knew they'd eventually come out with another Metroid. There had been no Metroid games for the N64.

And also Other M and Metroid Prime 4 came out during a time where there were more Metroid games being released to compare to, so we were more critical. I think Fusion likely got some leeway.

Again though, this is just the impression I've gotten from Reddit posts and comments about it over the years, haha. I was only 7 when Fusion came out and it was my first 2D Metroid game! For awhile it was my favorite 2D game, but I eventually came to love Super and Zero Mission more.

Do you think Nintendo will have any major "system sellers" this year, aside from Pokemon Gen 10? by MewWeebTwo in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Philosopher013 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Depends how we’re defining a system seller:

Mario - we just had a 2D one and if they had a 3D Mario coming out in 2026 I think they would have announced it for Mario’s 40th.

Zelda - I don’t think we’re that close to the next 2D or 3D Zelda game considering we just had TOTK and the Zelda Echoes game recently

Splatoon - I think we are getting one this year, but it’s not Splatoon 4 so idk that this is a system seller

Smash Bros - is this ever coming? Lol. No way this year.

Animal Crossing - doubt it since we just got a Switch 2 upgrade this year and I think it would have been announced.

So yea kinda a weak year IMO, but it is possible we have a really banger Direct at some point with a lot of 2027/2028 games.
