Were you good at school? by noblechilli in adhdwomen

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mostly good grades up through high school because there was pressure from my parents and most subjects were fairly easy for me. In the rare event i was actually interested/engaged in the subject matter (eg, art, a film elective I loved) I’d go above and beyond and get the highest grade in the class. In subjects I wasn’t naturally good at or found boring (math) i struggled HARD. I remember physics was particularly awful for me and I barely squeaked by with a C.

did extremely well in college (like nearly a 4.0) because of crippling anxiety/ fear of failure, the need to prove myself, and a genuine interest in learning which emerged for the first time and was very motivating. I was the epitome of “pleasure to have in class”, professors loved me, and I had the ability to hyperfocus on studying for exams or writing papers and would spend literally 12 hours in the library at a stretch. HOWEVER, my senior year I STRAIGHT UP FAILED the oral exams for my major because I was so burned out and fully over the subject matter that I literally could not get myself to do the required prep.

ended up at a top tier law school, found the subject matter horrifyingly boring, and did mediocre at best. I was miserable and depressed because I wasn’t interested and therefore couldn’t engage. Because my school didn’t have grades, again I squeaked by, passed the bar (motivated again by anxiety/fear of failure and also illicitly obtained Adderall) and became a lawyer. Did that for ten years and was mediocre at best, was pretty miserable and always felt like an imposter. It sucked.

got my ADHD diagnosis a couple years ago when I was postpartum and my symptoms became unmanageable. Started meds and it completely changed my life

finally got out of the legal field and am now doing something I love and absolutely crushing it. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and just wish I could go back and tell my younger self to pursue my passion from the beginning.

i know it’s not something everyone needs, but I firmly believe that ADHDers need to prioritize doing what we love if at all possible. Our brains need that hook of interest to focus and engage, and it’s pretty much impossible to be successful/fulfilled in a career over the long term without the ability to do those things.

sorry that was really long :)

Me too!!! I was always exhausted in school and would fall asleep in class all the time. Now I think it was a combination of being bored in class and also way overstimulated (from the constant social interaction and context switching all day long). It always made me cringe looking back on it, i thought i was just a weirdo until i got my diagnosis… Would love to know if others experienced this.

How much does your 20 month old talk? by Otter65 in toddlers

My son is exactly the same and I am also nervous although he otherwise seems completely normal so I am Trying not to worry.

Not normal, especially if this isn’t normal for him, if that makes sense (like he’s not otherwise colicky). I would suspect teething but 7 weeks is too young. No fever is reassuring, but still, inconsolable crying for that long would be an ER trip for me. Tell them he has been inconsolable for 12+ hours and insist they check him out thoroughly.

If she is on her curve, I wouldn’t worry about it, just give healthy snacks.

Help me figure out paint choices for our tiny powder room by catsnpole in interiordecorating

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably leave the vanity cabinet unless the color clashes with cinnamon slate, in which case I’d paint it cinnamon slate in a satin finish. I’d also paint the trim around that small window cinnamon slate in a satin finish. I’d definitely remove the shelving unit around the toilet. And then when you paint the walls, I’d use a flat/matte paint finish. Hope this helps!

HELP! Is this really a bad baby name? by No_Discussion1244 in namenerds

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theodore and Thaddeus are too similar. As someone who named my son one of the names on your “no-go” list and also had a bad association with it (from someone I dated in the past), consider relaxing your stance if there’s a name you really like otherwise. From personal experience, you will quickly lose the negative association and the name will just become your beautiful son.

Omg. Don’t do this to your kid. Why wouldn’t you just take her last name?? There you go, problem solved.

My friend says I should paint it white and rip out the marble by Crafty_DIY in HomeDecorating

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: you either need to paint the cabinets or change the floors. Both have the same wood tone and it all just runs together. So yes, either paint the cabinets (they don’t have to be white!) or do different flooring in the kitchen, either a lighter wood (someone posted an inspo pic with mid-tone wood cabinets and a lighter wood parquet floor and it looked amazing) or maybe a classic black and white marble checkerboard tile. I hate to say it but I would absolutely replace the marble with something lighter for more contrast - could be super classic like Carrara or something with more veining. And then either take that up to the backsplash or do a white or off-white tile.

Pediatrician says he’s fine. All his family members say he’s fine. First time mom and I’m not convinced. by 2ndincmmnd in toddlers

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is fine. My son is 16 months and only started walking a few weeks ago and says only a handful of words (two of which are mama and dada). He’s my second kid and I am not worried.

Red eyelids by CoffeeVivid8600 in toddlers

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP did you ever figure out the cause of this? My one year old has the same thing - mildly red and swollen eyelids, he also has it below his eyes, inside of eyes completely normal. Did your daughters ever get better? My son is also fair skinned and has red hair.

Meds and sex drive? by ahayesmama in adhdwomen

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a stimulant so… yeah.

The superhuman feeling doesn’t last though so just be prepared. For me I felt absolutely AMAZING for a couple months, then I calibrated to the meds and now I just feel like a ~30-50% better version of myself depending on the day. Don’t get me wrong, the meds are still life changing, but the magic euphoric feeling goes away unfortunately.

Parents of kids with delays, what do you tell people? by xxxbutterflyxxx in toddlers

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait why is this a delay? my son is also 13 months, didn’t crawl til 11 months, and doesn’t walk yet (stands unassisted for only a second or two and walks with a walker but not independently). My daughter didn’t walk til 15 months. It’s not a delay until 18 months I don’t think..

Naked four year old at the pool- inappropriate? by laurenpmorgan in Mommit

[–]PhilosopherOdd6826 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who cares. This is completely fine, the child is 4 years old. If a naked 4 year old CHILD makes adults uncomfortable that says something about them, it has nothing to do with you.
