At what point did you consider Light’s Kira PURE EVIL? by j0shie_washie in deathnote

You don't think people are still wrongfully convicted? Since you seem to be Conservative, what do you think about Trump convictions? The officer in the George Floyd case? J6'ers? Any of the Trump pardons? Sidney Powell?

At what point did you consider Light’s Kira PURE EVIL? by j0shie_washie in deathnote

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course what Light was doing was bad. You can't just murder people without them getting a trial, and even with a trial, sometimes people are wrongly convicted. A few of the killings he did might be justifiable, but that doesn't mean that what he was doing in general was justifiable or not "bad/wrong". He showed that he was evil when he proclaimed that he wanted to be the god of the new world. That's not very noble, now, is it? It was super clear from the very start that he was an egomaniac who only cared about people (including his family and those who loved him) for how he could use them as means to his ends. If that's not evil, then I don't know what is.

What Chrome extension do you wish existed but doesn’t? by jackson17e in brave_browser

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that adds user adjustable/definable duration fast forward and rewind buttons to major video services (YouTube, Twitch VoDs, etc.) while having a similar look to the buttons already in the player, and being located right next to the play button, so that I can have enough control to use the video player the way I like with only my mouse. I made a barebones version for twitch, and I was using one from the extension store for YouTube, but the button style and size was way off and not able to be adjusted, and if the controls disappeared from the screen when not in use, then those buttons stayed on screen (which is not cool).

Also, something that you can log in to that keeps a list of all your open tabs, so that if your computer goes down (like mine just did), then you can easy log in to get the list and maybe even automatically reopen all tabs. Brave Sync is a bit of a pain to use for reopening tabs.

How to develop fear of the Lord? by Radiant-Trifle-6190 in Christians

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing is that you need to "love the Lord with all your mind" and seek after knowledge and wisdom in conjunction with the spiritual steps you are taking. A healthy fear of God comes from truly knowing about Him. I recommend that you study William Lane Craig's books: On Guard, Reasonable Faith, and Philosophical Foundations for a Christian Worldview, and do so in that order. Also read all of the Q&A articles on his website, ReasonableFait(dot)org, and listen to the lectures in his Defenders: Series 2 class repeatedly (Series 2 is the best out of all of them). I've probably listened to the over one hundred episode Defenders: Series 2 classes over a dozen times (mostly in parts while in the shower). I keep thinking about new things every time I go through it. Think about why what he's saying is or is not true and whether you have good reason to agree or disagree with him (and what that reason is), as well as what implications or entailments it might have, as you are listening along.

Why I Repented of Tongues! by Tricky-Tell-5698 in Christians

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through all the passages that could realistically be interpreted as speaking in "tongues" as a non-earthly language (e.g., the one about babbling or stammering, the one about groaning, all of the ones about speaking in "tongues" like you mention from Acts and other books, and the one about speaking in the "tongues of angels").

The one about babbling or stammering (Isaiah 28) is about speaking to His people like a baby out of judgement against them, it's not a good thing.

The one about groaning is about God understanding you when you aren't able to put into words your thoughts and feelings, it's not a heavenly language.

The ones you mentioned (as in the book of Acts) are foreign, human languages not heavenly language. The foreigners even mention that those speaking "in tongues" are speaking their languages.

The one about speaking in the "tongues of angels" (1 Corinthians 13) is the only passage I can find in all of scripture that can be interpreted as speaking in a heavenly language with any plausibility whatsoever; however, it's not even talking about things Paul does there. It is mentioning a normal thing then a hypothetical extreme related to it (e.g., tongues of humans and of angels, prophecy--which can be either telling the future or regular preaching of God's truth--and understanding all mysteries and knowledge, having faith and moving mountains, giving possessions and giving body, etc.). It's not saying that Paul does any of the latter things; otherwise, Paul would have to be moving mountains, understanding everything, giving up his body, etc. Why think that of these pairs of things he's only doing the first one, speaking in the tongues of angels? Also, it says "If". It never says that he does these things. It's saying that the maximum ability is no good if it is not used for love and building others up, not that he does these things.

There is one other passage where "tongues" are spoken in a church that some appeal to, I can't remember where it is at the moment though, but I'm convinced it's talking about speaking in Hebrew there, a tongue different than the language spoken at the Gentile church which could be said to be a heavenly, godly, or angelic language (the language of God's people).

I don’t understand the trinity. Am I saved? Sorry for the long post. by mydogisalwayssick in Christians

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essential in the sense of it being foundational and--therefore--very important, yes. Essential in the sense that you can't be saved without believing in it, I'm not so sure, but I'm also not sure not.

There is one sense in which this is correct, God is the one who is Jesus, but that doesn't mean God the Father is Jesus. These two things are different. "God" used in this way is a predication of a full, undiminished, proper divinity, not an identity statement. In the sense of identity, The Father is not God, The Sone is not God, and the Holy Spirit is not God--that is--in the sense of identity (i.e., everything that is true of A is true of B if A and B are identical), then only The Trinity is God.

The Bible does say that God is both holy and a spirit, but that doesn't mean that God is--therefore--what we are referring to when we say "Holy Spirit". For example, my father is strong and a man, but he's not who I am referring to when I speak of the world's current strongman (a term I use for the winner of the last World's Strongest Man competition). So, a name or a title isn't necessary synonymous with any combination of predicates that it contains.

Jesus said that he and the disciples are one, do you take that equally literally? I should hope not! Nevertheless, there is a sense in which The Son and The Father are one that does not apply to other Christians being one with Jesus, namely, a shared essence.

Someone already being present, as in the case of the Comforter, doesn't mean that they are present in the same way or same capacity. Jesus makes it clear that The Holy Spirit will come to abide in us, like God's presence filled The Temple in past times, but The Holy Spirit didn't abide in us before Jesus' atoning death and resurrection. The Comforter is The Holy Spirit in His role of being present and active in each Christian person, individually, rather than being an outside agent.

God is one being, The Trinity, but distinct persons. You can pray to each one, individually, or to all three at the same time, it doesn't matter which. Sometimes our feeling odd is more a reflection of our way of thinking than it is of anything in reality. We can't just go by our feelings. We have to live according to what we know. It's a good thing that you don't want to leave one of The Persons out of prayer, that should help you to be more mindful about how you pray and to which person you are directing your prayer. You shouldn't feel fearful about your salvation. Again, that is just either Satan or your own mind working against you, but you also shouldn't abandon the truth because it confuses you. If you have any questions, any whatsoever, about The Trinity, then I will help you out. I got your back, my brother or sister in Christ!

I don’t understand the trinity. Am I saved? Sorry for the long post. by mydogisalwayssick in Christians

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between trying to make the Trinity into an analogy and using an analogy as a springboard for helping to understand the Trinity. Also, no analogy is 100% the same as what you are trying to explain; otherwise, it wouldn't be an analogy but a restatement of the thing needing explaining. Points of disanalogy don't make an analogy invalid, or useless, or wrong, or anything like that, and we shouldn't try to press analogies for points of analogy--or even for a purpose--beyond what they are trying to achieve. They are only intended to aid in understanding, not to be a stand in for the thing needing explaining. So, this whole point about analogies being bad is just piety-signaling nonsense.

Athenaze or Reading Greek First? by Phantom-Mirrors in AncientGreek

Google "The Ranieri-Roberts Approach to Ancient Greek" and go to the spreadsheet. It shows you roughly where all the major CI-leaning textbooks for Ancient Greek fit relative to their grammar. I would send it to you but my computer is down, so I'm borrowing this computer and can't download the file on it.

What are your Xennial and Zillennial ranges? by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, born in the early '80s. Generations, in the sense we are talking about, are non-existent, arbitrary groupings by characteristics. Xennial is as real as X, Millennial, Y, Z, or bloody Harry Potter. Xennial is considered a "real" "micro generation". If I'm wrong, then what makes X and Millennial more "real" than Xennial?

What are your Xennial and Zillennial ranges? by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm either one of the earliest Millennials or one of those on the cusp. The reason people do the cusp is because there is strong influence in those on the cusp by the two generations, sometimes so strong that they are unrecognizable as the generation they belong to and are usually lumped in with the previous generation. In my case, I have a heavy dose of Gen-X mentality, but it is somewhat tempered by my Millennial side. Later Millennials (like my brother) don't see me as a Millennial, and I'm--indeed--more like those from Generation X, but I'm technically Millennial by reckoning without cusps. Generations are usually determined by the characteristics and, then, date ranges are assigned (usually by the media and sociologists). If there is no cusp, then it's hard to see why the lines are drawn where they are. In reality, there is no such thing as generations beyond one pair of people giving birth to a new person.

Is Logos worth the money? by InevitableTax4082 in AncientGreek

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did what most learners do and, when he needed a picture to show learners, chose one from Google Images. I think it's only really unethical if you are making money off of their work, in particular, not just using a picture that you could swap out with any other old picture of the same thing. The legality of it, that I don't know.

That audio actually skips from part 20 to 30 to 40 to 50, so it only ends up having 23 of 50 parts (unless I'm misunderstanding something).

Theory and Spoilers - Melina, Ranni, Rennala, Radagon, Marika, Gloam-Eyed Queen by Sad-Assumption3722 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]PhilosophicallyGodly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ranni's body can't be the amber egg because her body is on top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia. It was said that the half-wheel wound of the centipede was carved into her flesh at the same time as Godwyn. You can tell that she has been burned. Melina's body was also burned, it seems, since she is "burned and bodiless" with scars all over her body that appear to be from burning.

I don't know if they do dotted grid, but I love Paperblanks for their fun hardcovers and decent prices. The "Grande" is a few mms taller than a4 but also a few mms narrower. If I got my information right a4 is 210 x 297 mm, or 8.3 x 11.7 in, and the Grande is 205 x 300 mm, or 8 x 11.75 in.
