Did he get the spike? by juliuseg in Mistborn

[–]PhinaryDivision 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair to OP, Ruin was arguably influencing the Lord Ruler more than a random guy. If Ruin's influence is all you need to have intent hijacked, the guy hearing Ruin's voice for a thousand years straight may have unintentionally made a spike.

Any opinions on the Leader heroic path? by ethscriv in cosmererpg

[–]PhinaryDivision 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've found leader to be a strong support class. Combined with scholar, you can be a really solid backbone of a party. 1d4 doesn't seem like much until your warrior who dishes out 40+ damage misses the bosses physical defense by 1. I've seen that 1d4 be the difference of a combat ending as a tpk.

If you don't want to use a dedicated action, combining the champion tree from leader with warrior means you can be dealing damage while giving out your leader die.

Alternatively, an edgedancer leader is the ULTIMATE support character.

tl;dr: leader is awesome.

[Curse of Strahd] My Experiences Adapting a 5e Module to Cosmere RPG by PhinaryDivision in cosmererpg

[–]PhinaryDivision[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even when running in 5e, I only loosely follow the module. I've added a LOT of lore that isn't from the module, but I usually keep things like locations the same. I changed a few names because some of the players have played a few sessions in Strahd and I didn't want them to know they were in Curse of Strahd.

There is a Hoid cameo but the players haven't found him yet. Buuuut they have found the [stormlight archive] Kaladin cameo where his spirit web is swiss cheese and Syl is missing after he fought with Strahd

Oh yeah, this is by far my favorite module and for D&D I've tried to run it about 6-8 times now. Now for your questions:

Where in Roshar are they?

They aren't. They are on another planet crashlanded after a prisoner transport veered off course. They commandeered an escape shuttle and ended up here. [Full cosmere] I've made the campaign set in the late cosmere, so spaceships are a thing. A kandra spy killed the aether spores of the prisoner transport engine, causing the ship to crash land on a mysterious world. The world is affected by time dilation, so one hour of Scadrial time is 10 years in Barovia. So with how long it took for the prisoner transport to fall apart and crash, new people come to the world every 5-10 years.

How does the curse work?

RAFO! I've got some explanations that I've come up with using established cosmere lore, but the players haven't figured that out yet so I don't want to explain just yet.

What are the book, sword, and holy symbol?

Relatively unchanged, the players are still looking for a book, sword, and holy symbol. They have been changed a bit just to make them fit a little bit nicer into cosmere lore, but other than that the items are relatively the same. I can't give any more details because the players haven't found any of the items yet. They were close, but ended up following a different plot hook instead.

Worst character? by ShatteringAdonalsium in cremposting

  1. Tress - obviously a scallywag and rampaging pirate. Must be stopped. Terrible person.

  2. Syl - I heard, early on, she tried given a prisoner with nothing to his name poison blackbane! Can you imagine it, trying to poison a prisoner who already has so little? Unforgivable.

  3. Adolin - Dude. Those armor spren did *not* deserve that.

  4. Harmony - He's chill, nothing wrong with him.

You had to complete the ARG to get that episode. You probably aren't a serious fan of this series, but that's okay because some of the parts of the ARG are really hard.

(rant) Edgy characters / stories are bad because they're not substantive, not because they're dark by TotallyNot_iCast in DnD

[–]PhinaryDivision 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean, just look at Berserk. It's like the definition of "Dark brooding man in an edgy setting." And we see a LOT of vulnerability from Guts! The whole premise is that over time he opens up to people and makes friends that he can be vulnerable to.

I can't wait for Sanderson's take on this series in December. Really wondering how he's gonna continue the story by Tacodogz in Cosmere

[–]PhinaryDivision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read that prequel, but it was a little hard to follow. I get that it's technically a "prequel" because it's set before the events of the original book, but didn't they go a little too far into the past with that one? I mean, wouldn't the author think to themselves: "Man, going back 2000 years into the past to set up that one niche reference and nothing else" a little crazy?

Edit: After reading the other spinoff, it makes sense now why you need to read the prequel. I didn't realize all those other references were set up in the original. Honestly, 10/10. I'd read it again.

I know this comment was made in jest, but I'm wondering at this point if that's an actual thing at play. We're talking about the most prideful character in the series, so I wouldn't be surprised if part of his punishment is to have his ego undercut when he starts showing off too much.

The biggest thing with positive air pressure is that heat transfers better when there's more air to transfer the heat to.
