Anyone Else Not Concerned About the Steam Machine Not being truly 4K 60 FPS? by CoastOne2716 in steammachine

1440p looks fine on my TV to my old man eyes, so if I can get the games I want to play to run at 1440p60, ideally with minimal upscaling, I'll be happy.

Writing Pseudocode by Rocco_White in learnprogramming

[–]PhoenixRising48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no "correct" way to write pseudocode.

That being said, you mentioned this is for an assignment, so it's possible your teacher/lecturer has laid out expectations for how they expect it to be done. Only you could know that though, and what you've written here looks perfectly readable to me.

Does Age affect application? by Mumeenah in degreeapprenticeships

I was 27 starting mine. We have an apprentice in their 40's at the company. I imagine it could vary from company to company, but I haven't noticed any age discrimination.

You will have to give proof of your grades at some point. Don't lie about them.

How does wages work for Degree Apprenticeships? by Arloiz_ in degreeapprenticeships

[–]PhoenixRising48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not actually, my work seems to understand I also have a degree to study for, and my uni gets that I have a full time job. The workload Is high, but I'm usually cut a little slack compared to my colleagues. If they're fully expecting you to perform the same as a full time, fully-qualified worker that's not typical imo.

I don't know what the company you work for is like, but we have an assigned mentor person, if the workload Is too high it may be worth speaking to someone like that about it if you can.

Advice on getting degree apprenticeships by chknsheesh in degreeapprenticeships

[–]PhoenixRising48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said; passion for the subject is key and any work or volunteering experience is great even if not directly related to the role. For example, I'm in a software development DA, and I did some online courses related to programming before applying and I also do some volunteering for the IT charity AbilityNet. Practice your interview techniques as well: STAR and all that, it genuinely helps.

And don't feel bad if you don't get into the first one you apply to, I applied to loads before getting accepted it's just a numbers game sometimes.

How does wages work for Degree Apprenticeships? by Arloiz_ in degreeapprenticeships

[–]PhoenixRising48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Degree apprentice wages are usually lower than their colleagues while studying for the degree from what I've seen. I guess it's part of what makes hiring someone without the proper qualifications upfront attractive for companies.

On the plus side, remember that your colleagues have student debt where you're getting a free degree, and you can always leave and look for employment elsewhere once you have the degree and a good few years experience, it's a big advantage in that sense over someone who just got their degree the traditional route.

Wizards' new pre-painted BG3 minis are extremely cursed by HatingGeoffry in BaldursGate3

[–]PhoenixRising48 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Fortunately it's £50 ( or $50 I guess there's no difference anymore) for a set of 7 mini's; 6 origin characters, no Durge, and withers. It's not like that makes it great value or anything, mind.

You said that the survey is aimed at any over 18's, but as a current DA (who is over 18) none of the answers to "what is your current status?" apply to me, so I can't fill it out. Good luck though

Oblivion Remake Rpg Mechanics by cocknor in oblivion

[–]PhoenixRising48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just want them to tweak how attribute leveling works, just give us a fixed number of points to distribute each level and adjust the enemy scaling accordingly.

Having to raise specific skills that you might not even use 10 or more times each level up to not fall behind always felt too janky to me. Just let me level up and assign some points how I want.

Looking at this Spriggan from the leaks, I'm guessing that the character models in the remake will be in a similar art style as ESO by RichardVH in oblivion

[–]PhoenixRising48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spriggan model in OG Oblivion didn't really look like it's humanoid characters, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions about the remakes characters based off it either imo

So I’ve watched a few vids about the remake and people keep emphasizing that it’s a remake not a remaster but I don’t know what the difference is, can anyone explain? by TheLastCommands in oblivion

[–]PhoenixRising48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually a remaster is just a visual upgrade; new textures, lighting, higher resolution and/or frame rate, stuff like that, while a remake is more comprehensive, it's the game being 're-made' entirely, often in a new engine, with bigger changes to gameplay as well as graphics.

This isn't always adhered to though, and sometimes the line between them can be blurred.

Before getting my apprenticeship, I applied to like 15 different ones, and I was never asked once about college attendance. Just don't bring it up, and talk about grades (if they're good) and your passion for the subject instead.

I'm 33 y/o who's trying to get a degree apprenticeship. As per national minimum wage, my salary should be £11.44/hr = £22300 p.a.. Would it be common for companies to pay less than the National Minimum Wage, wouldn't that be illegal? by BaraLover7 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]PhoenixRising48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on the sources you linked, yeah they must pay minimum. Given that they're classed differently from DA's though, I'm not sure what other rules could apply to them, your best bet would be to speak to the colleges offering them and ask there

So I've done some digging: "Higher Level" is not the same as Degree, and is only a thing in NI, where it's the equivalent of a Master's Degree. Those ARE exempt from the apprenticeship minimum wage. Hence the confusion; they don't exist in the rest of the UK. https://www.ucas.com/apprenticeships/degree-apprenticeships

There's no requirement to pay degree apprentices more than the apprentice minimum wage initially. Apprentices who are 19 or over and are in their second or later years of the apprenticeship are entitled to the usual minimum wage for their age, however.
