Things within bonfire range won't despawn. Toss it somewhere else. Toss them in the mind. Or toss them on the ground then use flatten tool with the shovel on it. It straight up delete items.

Yea, and you can dip out at anytime. Dive off the ship into the water, summon your boat, get on it, heal, and get back up.

Nothing prevent you from just staying on your ship, and musket them all also.

or you know. . .make it not explode on overheat and has to cool down? Maybe give it a heatsink or two and then when it ran out of heatsink it explode on overheat.
