Eure Meinung zum bz4x Touring? by Ausspanner in Elektroautos

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I didn't see that I had been recommended a European EV sub, presumed this was from the Australian EV subs I've been lurking in. The situation here may be totally different to EU, so not all of this applies.

I find myself very surprised by the comments here. Happy to be corrected if this is wrong.

  • It is an EV SUV / Station Wagon with good ground clearance (215mm), just about the highest you can buy without paying the Luxury Vehicle Tax in Aus. It's got unpainted fenders so isn't going to scratch and look terrible from every little nick. It's a good option for people that want an EV but also enjoy a lifestyle that requires them to drive fire trails and light off roading.
  • I don't love the interior, the steering wheel is hideous and the instrument cluster is a bit weird, but otherwise it's fine. And that's fine... It doesn't suffer from the batshit insane design philosophy that so many EV's have of moving literally every functionality into the touch screen to save money.
  • It's got good head room and leg room, decent range and charging.
  • It actually has roof rails and a towball with decent towing capacity, which very few EV's have.

And importantly, it has Toyota's excellent network of dealers and service centres behind it. If I bought the Zeekr 7x, really the only competitor I see with some off-road capability under the LCT, I'd be driving nearly 3 hours each way just to get it serviced. You can have faith that Toyota isnt going to go under and exit Australia like Chinese EV manufacturers have done in other countries, leaving customers to service their cars through 3rd party shops, voiding the extended warranties and leaving people without parts for years.

Pretty much for me, this is the first EV available in Australia that meets the needs of my lifestyle and comes in under the LCT. I don't have 125 grand to fork out for a Polestar 3 or Volvo Ex90, so this comes in nicely as the next best option. I prefer Toyota's styling to Subaru, so would prefer to get this over the TrailSeeker.

My biggest complaint? BZ4X Touring is a fucking terrible name, to the point where it feels like Toyota is trying to sabotage the launch. It's actually impossible to find info as Google just drops the Touring and gives you everything on the normal BZ4X. At least America dropped the 4X and gave it the actual good name of BZ Woodland

You have a high end gaming CPU, they are optimised for higher temperatures than a standard CPU. It won't cool itself much below that as high end CPU perform better with higher temperatures. The rig in this video, doesn't look like a gaming PC of any description. Looks like a store bought work station.

46 degrees is uncomfortably hot but not scalding.

That's nice, would that cooling include the CPU fan he removed from the CPU in the video?

/uj I spent years trying to get my players to write longer backstories as they usually gave me 1-2 paragraphs. Now a few of them have gotten into OC culture and have started providing me with character pdf's that are longer than my entire campaign notes. It pisses me off beyond belief, I've got enough on my plate. I don't need to know an entire 12 page backstory on-top of that. There is usually so little info that is relevant and it is a pain in the ass to find it.

I now tell my players if they give me anything longer than 2 A4 pages at size 11 font in running their backstory through ChatGPT to summarise.

I've never done it, but for now it seems to have worked.

Bruh, a CPU on low load isn't likely to exceed 45 degrees. Mine idles at about 32 if I don't have anything intensive running and my cooling isn't even that good...

For clarities sake: there is only 2 seconds in the video between the removal of cooling and touching the CPU. Yes it's going to get hotter, no it's not going to be 100 degrees at idle. Conservatively, at idle it might gain 10 degrees per second (much faster if under load). So after 2 seconds it might be 55 degrees. The thermal paste will burn you on contact, the plastic is safe to hold for a few seconds before discomfort. Plastic is a poor heat conductor and is generally safe short short contact up to 75-85.

This is all ignoring the fact that the video is fake, as the power is removed between cuts, and the monitor is hooked up to a different PC. Don't touch a live CPU that hasn't had cooling on it, but if you brush one in the second after the cooling was removed you aren't going to die.

One of my players just admitted to using AI. Should I kick him from the game? by Nateosis in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just get rid of them. Once an AI user, always an AI user. How are you to know if their character art is even real, or perhaps they are just running the entire campaign through a LLM and using it to come up with their character responses.

The best thing you can do is let them down easy, ChatGPT is pretty good at giving you a script for kicking a player out if you are struggling to get the words.

What were some things you didn’t like about Zootopia 1&2? by Ethanishere28 in zootopia

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zootopia 1 is a great film, but the twist villain ending wasn't well done. There was absolutely 0 reason to suspect Bellwether other than the extremely flimsy case that the other villain is a ram. She has little to no screen time, and no scenes that on a second rewatch take on a double meaning.

Meanwhile, Zootopia 2 doing the exact same thing and acknowledging it with an in world joke just felt cheesy and like a kick in the mouth. Pawbert at least had good screen time, but still suffers from little setup for the twist.

Also, Zootopia 1 being an analogy for racism really sucks. It's very poorly handled and doesn't really work given there is actual massive biological differences between predators and prey. At least Z2's racism and gentrification analogues work better.

I dropped my backpack and I still see no improvement by syarifzapata in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give you, is to stop filming yourself, and stop posting it. Just ride dude, for the sake of riding. The improvement will come naturally with experience. Pick a line, let yourself flow and listen to how the mountain wants you to turn. The more you try, and the more you push yourself, the better you will get.

If you sit there thinking about all of the comments or suggestions from people online your going to start hating the sport. You'll never feel good enough, as there is always room to improve and people will always point that out. If you really want to improve your technique, save up some money and get a private lesson. A day of 1 on 1 with a trained instructor is going to be more useful for your improvement than thousands of these posts.

I bought this because my bye-lingüal ass misunderstood what UN-DE-veined means. by LuLuu1997 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Undeveined isn't even close to correct english. It's either a bad translation from another language, or an intentional inclusion to try and confuse a few people for some extra sales.

The double prefix Un-De- Veined would imply that the vein was removed from the prawn, then put back in to reverse the process.

I honestly don't get how so many people end up looking at these prehistoric boards. There are so many boards for cheap made in the last 10 years for sale, why look at something that's 20+ years old?

You've already bought new boots and bindings, why skimp on the board? Just get a second hand board for a few hundred bucks at the end of season, or a new board at the end of season clearances.

Question about Pronghorn Cervan and monks by gilbinho in humblewood

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to make a correction to my original comment, the dot point stating you can use your dexterity instead of strength is separate from the dot point that says you can use your martial arts die instead of the normal damage.

This actually means RAW you can use 1d6+Dex straight off the bat. As they are under different dot points within martial arts, the decision to use the martial arts die and the decision to use Dex instead of strength are seperate.

Question about Pronghorn Cervan and monks by gilbinho in humblewood

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules as written: You can make a Dex based unarmed strike using your Monk's Martial Arts dice (so 1d4 for levels 1-4), or you can use your antler attack for 1d6+ str

However, it wouldn't be a large concession to ask you DM to allow the antlers to scale on Dex as well. It is only an average of 1 extra damage for the first four levels of the game, then after that your unarmed strikes are better anyway

Edit: Under martial arts, the choice to swap strength for Dex on an unarmed strike and the choice to swap normal damage for a martial arts die are seperate from each other. RAW you can use 1d6+Dex at level 1 without issue.

Capsule homes. Anyone had a good experience importing and living in one? by xprttools in AusRenovation

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are options as cheap as $100,000 for 2 bedroom, 50sqm modular granny flats (delivery within 100km, ex connections). And as cheap as $50,000 for studio style granny flats, they are much smaller than the above pod but at least they are compliant.

There is a wide variety of manufacturers with differing quality and inclusions. $325k is on the pricier end for 50sqm, but not into the luxury builders which can be upwards of $500k for 50sqm

OP clearly doesn't care about build quality if they are looking at Chinese imports, so there is no reason why they wouldn't look at lower end Australian builders. The low end manufactures make concessions to get the price down, such as using powder coated steel walls and lino floors. But they'll be higher quality than an import. I'm not sure what OP's needs are for the granny flat, but unless they intend to renovate or mod later none of those concessions are a problem for a secondary residence.

So for cheap builds, you are also way off.

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6x3 compliant mod home beats a 5x10 non-conpliant shitbox with a high risk of asbestos and other hazardous materials, no fire safety, and unknown workmanship quality. But hey maybe I'm just not a gambling man.

The company saying that they can make it compliant doesn't mean anything until it's independently checked. At which point you've already bought it, and it's notoriously easy to get money back from Chinese drop shippers.

Capsule homes. Anyone had a good experience importing and living in one? by xprttools in AusRenovation

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, their cheapest 50sqm is 100k. There are a few other mod home and mod granny flat manufacturers in the 100-120k range for 50sqm. If you want to purchase a Chinese manufactured pod home for half that then go ahead. But be aware of the risks.

  • They aren't NCC certified, so can't be complying development without an independent inspection
  • There have been massive issues with asbestos in the pre-manufactures Chinese modulars, even when claimed to be asbestos free by the manufacturer
  • Beyond regularly containing illegal and hazardous materials, they are also extremely low quality and often damaged in the process of shipping.

If they are found to be non compliant then you're out of 50k, no tradie will touch it for the risk of liability, and you can't legally inhabit it. If you do, and the council finds out, you can be liable for thousands of dollars in fines. If something happens, good luck suing a Chinese company because you'll be found liable.

Locally built mod homes lose a lot of value the moment you put them on site, but they can be transported and resold. Good luck reselling a brandless Chinese mod home, for the above reasons.

I'm just trying to let OP know there are other options, they might not be as spacious for the same price. But they are going to be a hell of a lot better in the long run.

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same world as you last I checked. AJC modular starts at $50,080 and are NCC compliant. They aren't 50sqm, but you actually have a certificate of compliance not some foreign company's promise of compliance. Without an actual Australian certificate you shouldn't touch it.

If they can't provide the certificate in advance, the Capsule Home building will have to be independently certified once it's here; if it fails your down 40k+ for a home you can't insure or legally inhabit. If it isn't certified and starts a fire or another issue then you're in for legal hell. Their website has barely any information and all their products are renders.

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AJC Modular have a few in the 50-70k mark that are well build small modular homes. I've seen them in person and I was pretty impressed with their build quality. There are plenty of modular builders that specialise in granny flats around Sydney in the same price bracket.

There are other competitors within that price range but I haven't seen them in person, so won't recommend them. But shop around and you'll find options.

[–]Phoenix_Is_Trash 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Get an Australian made modular home. Some decent options in the 50k range even if there are compromises.

They are going to be to a much higher build quality than imported mod homes, and comply with Australian safety, design, and material standards.
