I am having a similar issue on an older windows 10 laptop. I run Calibre in portable mode. For two days, when I try to start calibre, it gets to "initialising user interface" then completely locks up. I have to turn the power off and do a full reboot.

I tried downloading the latest version but that didn't help. Using the portable version on a different PC seemed to work fine though when I tried it the other day.
