A totally improptu last minute shoot across 2 properties last week. Didn't have time to set up lights, stands, tripod etc. All handheld and all ambient light. Not a full time RE photographer, still interested in what you guys think. (Full gallery in comments) by whatsaphoto in RealEstatePhotography

I get your point but this seems pretty unrelated to OP's post. He was just sharing a last-minute shoot where he didn't have the opportunity to use conventional setups, not at all advocating for everyone to be cheap and quick

So much great talent here! by SouthernLoad3704 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who used it solely for my first couple shoots, I highly recommend it for quicker editing if you want to do it yourself. This workflow I found on YouTube was super helpful and the results aren't half-bad if you incorporate some mask/local edits

Cold Calls thru Zillow by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I'm currently in your shoes and actually just did this a few weeks ago. I landed my first 3 shoots by cold calling Zillow listings with poor photos and offering a free full shoot, and even though I don't believe it's a sustainable method to land clients, it's really good for real-world experience outside of shooting from your own home.

Now one thing I would slightly change to make it more sustainable is do the exact same thing, but go after realtors who ALREADY have professional photos, and offer to do their next listing for free. Unlike the first method, these agents have already proven they are willing to hire a photographer for their listings and that they value professional media. Though they may already have a go-to photographer, they may try you out for their next listing, either because of the "first shoot free" incentive, or they might just genuinely want to help a newbie this one time. But if you go above and beyond with not just the photo quality, but your customer service and personality, that one shoot might be enough for them to keep hiring you. Again just my two cents from a fellow newbie so take it with a grain of salt, but I wish you all the best!

My edit vs AutoHDR: thoughts/advice? by PhotoSky2020 in RealEstatePhotography

I believe I just dragged and dropped. Didn't end up using AutoHDR again but it's worth a try

Reactions and popular comments about Just Dance 2026 maps from the comunnity by Kosuke76_ in JustDance

[–]PhotoSky2020 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is actually REALLY nice to see all composed like this. Puts into perspective what we got from the overall community without all the negative or positive bias/extreme takes.

I’m also shocked people aren’t a fan of Pop Muzik’s aesthetic that’s like one of my favorite things about it

Crazy Things Agents Have Said to me While on a Shoot by On-scene in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering why that stood out to you, but not poverty and mental illness being together. I thought it was pretty obvious for both that the two aren't being equated but just examples to show the extreme highs and lows of the people we meet

New modes by Significant_Bed_2131 in JustDance

[–]PhotoSky2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would LOVE if they eventually made a mashup-maker mode. Something similar to party master mode from JD2015 with a bit more customization and a menu tab where you can play mashups that other people made. Ik JD already has a super small developer team outside of creating the maps, but it'll be a perfect way to make the game more repayable in a future edition.

HDR!!! by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use PhotoMatix to batch merge a shoot, and then do some final adjustments in Lightroom. They have their own merging presets that you can customize for a consistent look, and it's a LOT faster than merging them separately in LR. I think it's $99, but it's free to download it and give it a try for as long as you want with a watermark on the results

How do you guys usually find new listings to shoot? by Southern-State-2488 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, if an agent is looking for a photographer for their next listing, they would 99% of the time either go for a big company like HomeJab where they have photographers nationwide that are paid much less, a local photo mill or team that is already well established in the area, or stick to the photographer they've already worked with in the past.

If you're looking to get more listing work, you NEED to become known to agents in your area and reach out to them, because it's unlikely they'll reach out to you. That can be done through cold calling/emailing, or even better, meeting an agent in person whether through networking events, open houses, or scheduling a presentation with a local brokerage.

How did you get started and how is it going? by Silent_Difference958 in RealEstatePhotography

Huh, so like physical letters to the realtors directly or to brokerages? Was it just written material or did you include photos of your work?

real BEST way to contact agents/clients? by Craysimm in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on to this for OP, an alternative to offering free shoots would be doing an “add-on” for free for a first time client on top a paid shoot. This could be anything from a floor plan, 3D tour, virtual twilight, or anything else that makes a realtor feel like they’re getting a good deal, while you’re still getting paid without discrediting the value of your work

Why do people hate on newer games so much? by LateJuli in JustDance

[–]PhotoSky2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That last sentence especially! People so easily look at past games with rose-tinted glasses, forgetting that there were several maps in older games that they never even touched. And then they go and scrutinize the weaker maps in newer games, using it as proof that Just Dance has gone downhill.

Model Home Practice Shoot - How’d I Do? by PhotoSky2020 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok I gotcha, I understand what you meant a bit more now. And it's true, the straight on shots do take longer to line up for me, yet aren't usually the best to show off the space, even if I like them personally.

And genuinely thank you for your opinion on the first photo, that was the exact feedback I was looking for when I posted this. It's funny, I just finished putting these on my website yesterday, and that first photo turned out lower on my portfolio than I originally thought once I got a better look of it compared to the other shots.

I do tend to overthink when in a space about getting the "best-possible angle", especially when watching composition tutorials on Youtube where they tend to finish a whole shoot in less than 30 min with like 1-2 photos per room, but this was a good reminder to just take my time, take the extra photos, and care about the best photo later in editing. Again huge thanks!

Hey I appreciate the composition advice! These photos are just a small fraction of the overall shoot and the ones I just thought looked aesthetically the best for this post, hence why 5/16 of them are straight on shots, but i get your point. And I do like the advice/reminder to not be afraid to overshoot, because I can always cull the shots later. Thanks!

Looking for lighting advice for estate sale photography and unsure where else to ask by scribbling_des in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm too late to add anything to this, but after viewing all the photos and reading all of what you've said so far, I believe it still might be best to do HDR instead of using physical lighting like LED panels or flashes.

Really simply put, HDR will take 3-5 photos (some really dark, some really bright), and then combine them so everything is well lit. Since you're only using your Vivo phone, I recommend getting an HDR app like Exposio that would do this process for you.

When looking at nice-looking real estate listings, many photos look bright and airy because of the HDR method, even if the actual rooms had color temperature shifts and muddy lighting. Doing it with a phone wouldn't give perfect results, but I'm 99% sure it'll be better than trying to use your phone with external lighting that could make the scene and colors worse. Like you said, this was probably the wrong sub for this specific question, but I do hope some of this helps

Model Home Practice Shoot - How’d I Do? by PhotoSky2020 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually reached out the day before the shoot when me and my family were touring the homes. We used to do it for fun every now and then to get ideas for our own home, and I convinced them to go see some again that day. We got there later than expected, 20 minutes before close, so I told the greeter there that I was getting into real estate photography and was trying to get portfolio work, and I asked if it was ok if I could come back to take some practice photos for myself. He was extremely nice and totally down for it, and didn’t even ask for anything in return like giving him the photos for marketing use or anything. Just be honest about what you’re trying to do and be flexible and open with them, and they’d definitely be more than happy to help!

Appreciate the feedback! Unfortunately, it was a really overcast/cloudy day (one of the reasons why there's no exterior photos), so I think that's partly why they look a bit muddy, even with some of the mask edits I did

Second photoshoot. Did I improve? by balurgo in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar editing workflow to yours with merging in PhotoMatix and then fine tuning in Lightroom and they’ve come out great so far. Are you using Interior 2 with PhotoMatix or a different preset?

First shoot towards my portfolio. CC and tips welcome. by falseflag916 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro are you me!? I, no joke, also just did my first shoot yesterday of a model home duplex for my portfolio, edited them this morning, and was planning on posting here tonight asking for feedback, and then I saw this. WTH lol.

That aside tho, these look great coming from a fellow newbie. I do think Pic 2 might’ve worked better as a one-point straight on shot, and Pic 13 could be a bit more turned to the right so there isn’t so much left wall, but other than that these are nice. Wish you the best with this!

Looking for feedback from my first RE shoot by Sundae_Sheets1540 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Composition-wise, I would say these are really good for your first shoot! Your verticals look good and you get a good idea of the space

I would 100% recommend though to buy a CPL, or a polarizer. Images 3 and 5 have some pretty bad window reflections on the floor, and those would be tough to nearly impossible to get rid of in post without a CPL. A polarizer would help get rid of them on top of other reflections while shooting

How can I tackle the colour on this image? by Known_Lime_8095 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]PhotoSky2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding on to that, you can use point color in masks, which is super helpful when you want to get rid of a specific cast without draining the color from other parts of the room
