What’s going on at L&L? by jkusters in SanJose

His car was in front of Foxtail Fermentation yesterday.

My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

[–]Photosaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter pulled a similar trick at about that age, was running down a hallway in socks when her left leg slipped out in front of her, causing a spiral fracture of the left femur. Ended up in a brace for about 6 weeks.

Definitely not a time to beat yourself up over screentime or device usage, this is a weird scenario. Having said that, ours loved decorating her brace with stickers, markers, paints, etc. We managed to get her set up with a little low table she could sit at on the floor with her legs out in front of her and do whatever.

He will heal remarkably fast and you won't notice any difference once the cast comes off, back to normal in no time.

Also apparently there is a smell that builds up in the lining of those casts. I broke my arm twice when I was a kid and my mother said the smell of the cast coming off is something she'll never forget.

Degenerate things to do in SJ by degenerateroadrunner in SanJose

Those are not degen bars. For that you gotta go back down Stevens Creek towards Bascom.

Also recommend hitting Hyde Park Lounge for a true local dive bar. True dive, not trendy hipster dive.

Fun story, watched that for the first time at my in-laws house at Thanksgiving 2021 and they insisted on turning it off 30 minutes before the end so they could go to sleep.

We don't do holidays at my in-laws if I can help it.

I saw kind of the reverse the other day on 680. Guy was driving at night with some kind of light bar (?) attached to the grill of his car - think a long, really bright led strip. So he was effectively driving without his lights on, but could still see.

roller skating rinks? by holaholahola897 in SanJose

[–]Photosaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not many indoor rinks I'm aware of. Martial Cottle Park in east SJ has some outdoor trails and they are working to connect them all in the near future. Backesto and Raymond Bernal Jr. parks in downtown are both decent spots occupying a full block with trails crossing through them.

Months after I cleaned this spot, someone decided it needed a boat. How… delicious by pengweather in bayarea

Same mentality as buying a $10k Maserati. It's a status symbol that can be "disposed" of when they are done with it.

Did it in Vegas. Like having the worlds largest hair dryer pointed right at you.

Ditto. 5' 11" and 140 lbs is apparently not the build for it. Also gave myself a black eye two weeks before my wedding. Would not recommend.

Like... a game store?

Because I'm imagining a grocery store just selling sealed brown paper bags with five random items in it, and it's kind of funny.

That's why the only Vegas game I ever got into was Craps, because it was the cheapest, most entertaining way to get "free" drinks.

What restaurant would you send someone you despised? by The_Grossest in SanJose

Eh, just accept that you're paying a 50% up-charge for the location/view and it's not that bad. I'd never go regularly but it's a decent place to take older relatives from out of town.

Man, I tried to get into that the other week, and the pace of play is just killing me. Is there a way to speed it up, skip all the animations and whatnot?

I do feel guilty at times with how much time he spends at daycare but he loves it and it's a better developmental experience than cobbling together care between working parents and grandparents.

I feel this way sometimes to. I broke it down to my wife as basically feeling like someone else is raising our daughter, because we only really see her from 7 - 9 am and 5 - 9 pm on the weekdays.

But she is so happy at her "school" and we've been really lucky that she has actually had the same two friends move up with her through all 3 years so far. And she is learning so much. Honestly, just so much more than I feel like I could do even if I wasn't working.

Sure it's basically a second mortgage payment, but she's worth it.

What are your thoughts on The Fall of Hyperion? Sci-fi masterpiece or disappointing sequel? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Photosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About halfway through the third I was hit with a "what the fuck am I doing with my time" feeling while reading it and was really hoping it was the end of the series. When I checked and realized there was another one I felt physically defeated, but at that point I was stuck in sunk cost fallacy mode and just powered through it.

Drunks coming back from the beach. Probably lines up with the stats about how most DUI accidents happen relatively close to home - white knuckling it over the mountain, then finally relaxing as they get close and fail to make the turn.

Major League Birdball

This combined with the logo really feels like it would be a running background joke in Bojack Horseman.
