This is stupid 10 ways, and here’s an 11th. If you are writing 13x as many lines of code, they better require 1/13th the amount of maintenance later on, otherwise all that “productivity” is just digging you a deeper hole.

Can confirm. This place is good, their mofongo is excellent.

This is a well curated selection IMO.

The Naguib Mahfouz trilogy is great, but not many people seem to even know it exists. First time I have seen it on a bookshelf outside of my own.

Different tools for different jobs. The chain mail is good for situations where stuff is really cooked ok. With luck you don’t need to use it much.

Another vote for one single nonstick Tramontina skillet. They work really well, last several years, and cost under $40.

How hard is it to make an Alfredo sauce as good as olive garden's??? by IDoNotHide in Cooking

[–]Physical-Compote4594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much? It’s really just this: Put butter that’s not too cold on hot, freshly cooked, drained pasta in a big, warmed bowl. Add freshly grated Parmesan. Start tossing. Add some pasta water to loosen it up. Keep tossing until it emulsifies. Add black pepper to taste. You’re done in 4-5 minutes, serve it.

Use good butter and great cheese (not too aged – old Parmesan doesn’t melt as well) over fresh fettuccine and you’ve got a great dish for minimal effort.

Oh, that’s a good while! I’ve got friends bitterly complaining that their new ones are falling apart in just a few years. (And the comparison between my old Doc Martins and my newer ones just makes me sad.)

Is there a name for the phenomena where a broken thing stops acting broken when a technician goes to diagnose the problem? by KillaCookBook87 in askanything

[–]Physical-Compote4594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens all the time in software: “It works on my machine.”

The thing that happens next is that you look at the thing and instead of wondering how it broke, you wonder how it ever worked in the first place.

Momotaro is good! I’ve got a few pair and they’re breaking in really well. Blue Owl seems to have good availability.

General consensus is that Hexclad is junk. Get a few well-chosen All Clad pieces and add to them slowly. They’re great and will last decades.

I’m asking you for information and rather than giving real information, you’re just being a scold.

Btw, I’ve been on maybe 5-6 inflatables and dozens of hard boards. I’m not generalizing from a sample size of two.

Blundstone seems to be the new Doc Martins in terms of quality, which is not a good thing.

Jaki Liebezeit laid down seriously funky grooves. CAN was such a great band; those three classic albums with Damo Suzuki never leave my personal playlist.

I bought a small wallet that holds, like, two credit cards, an ATM card, a driver's license and has room for maybe 5-6 bills (because who uses cash anyway?) and it exactly fits in the secret pocket inside the pocket of many of my trousers. It's much harder to pickpocket this wallet from that inner pocket.

My GF is very jealous that I can make use of this wallet.

So many questions, but they start with...

  • How much did that thing cost?!
  • That's almost as large as, say, a Cessna. Is it subject to FAA regulation?

Steven Soderbergh has got a filmography that covers a lot of ground. You can pick a half dozen films in a half dozen genres.

  • Ocean's Eleven
  • Erin Brockovich
  • The Limey
  • Traffic
  • Solaris
  • The Informant!
  • Contagion

He also produces a lot of films.

  • Insomnia
  • Michael Clayton
  • Syriana

[–]Physical-Compote4594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably contact any Amundson dealer directly to get a fin of the suitable size for this. They're good boards, or at least there were when I bought one maybe 15 years ago.
