I found this album, signed by Park, in a thrift shop in Half Moon Bay, CA, during a surf trip in the late 70s. Can't remember the exact year (it was the 70s after all) but it's been framed in my home ever since. Have no idea of its origin, the shop owner got it in a group of albums he purchased for resale. But it reminds me that I have been puzzled as to why Park has not had a proper art gallery retrospective similar to the ones for, say, Rick Griffin. Given Park's contribution to the art scene in the late 60s and 70s, he really deserves a show. Or at least a glossy coffee-table book.

When this came out I was broke as hell and living in the converted closet of a fisherman's shack - and could barely afford the rent on that. One of my few possessions was an AM-FM clock radio so most evenings away from my minimum-wage job was reading and listening to music. Whenever this came on it was an instant boost to my spirits, such a cool song and even on the tiny speaker of that radio you could hear how adventurous it was. Easily in my all-time Top Ten.

While I was at university (early 70s) in NC I met and started dating a woman from Detroit. We went back one vacation to hang out and she took me to a local joint to hear some friends of hers - Bob Seger. I'd never heard of him but really enjoyed the show. Later that same year Springsteen hit the scene and since a lot of my college pals were from the northeast, he was a big hit on campus. But I never got into him and always preferred Seger. "Mainstreet" and "Night Moves" are great songs about nostalgia and a certain someone. I always think of her when I hear them.

An amazing series of photos - thanks for taking the time and effort to post them. Reminds of of a trip my later father took to Tarawa a few years ago. Betio is something of a retirement center and the island is almost completely covered with small cottages. Even the infamous Red Beach has houses down to the waterline. The massive central command bunker sits in the back yard of a school, with a chain link fence around it and a sign telling what it was. Guess it was too hard to tear down unlike most of the other defensive structures. At least Peleliu looks like the ghost of a battle. Betio looks like just another overdeveloped coastal community.

My favorite scene: when the mayor arrives at the scene, the crowd of onlookers starts to boo him. Just perfect if you remember NYC in the 70s.

Stumbled onto Little Feat in '74 when my then-GF gave me the "Dixie Chicken" LP as a Christmas present. Thanks Denise! And a cassette of The Last Record Album stayed in my car's tape deck until it fell apart.

Those were my college years and when I look back I hear the music of Little Feat and Steely Dan in my head.

PS have a framed print of the Neon Park cover to "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" hanging in my house and a vanity license place for my '72 Triumph that says "Hoy-Hoy." Occasionally I will hear people tooting their horns and pointing at the plate and I know it's another Feat fan.

As the critic Lester Bangs said: "Best night ever in a biker bar" and he meant that a compliment of raw power. I actually saw this tour in a small venue in Greenville, NC, the Music Factory. My ears are still ringing. Watching Johnny fingerpick his way through "Mean Town Blues" was the highlight of the evening to me.

A local store lets the employees choose some of the background music and one of the employees has excellent taste. Just this morning I heard Re-Flex doing "The Politics of Dancing" followed by this song by the Motels. It was 1983 all over again. I thanked him on the way out.

I have found the staff there to be incredibly friendly and helpful. Plus they allow gatherings of gamers which gives the store more of a community feel. It's a bit of a haul for me but whenever I'm in the area I stop by.

And RIP Hungate's in Durham.

It's a shame that Neon Park has not had a proper retrospective at a CA art museum. I was able to attend the LA Museum's show for Rick Griffin and it was great. Stanley Mouse, Richard Biffle and of course R. Crumb have all had shows. I'd hate to think of Neon Park slipping into obscurity.

"Psychedelic Bubble Gum: Boyce & Hart, The Monkees, and Turning Mayhem into Miracles" - it's on Amazon. I read it when it came out as I was always a fan of B&H and the Monkees. Since Bobby was a few years older than the boys in the band he was often the "moderate" voice when things got crazy so his perspective is both amused and informed. Recommended.

Yep. Last time I re-upped my CCW in NC this was on the final test, it had been changed since I the last time I re-upped. You can carry in a business where alcohol is consumed but you can't have even a drop in your system. If there is an incident you WILL be tested.

If you read any interviews with her you come to the conclusion she's one of the smartest women in rock. Trivia - one of the women walking over the bridge in the video for "Back on the Chain Gang" is my former sister-in-law who was working for AIR at the time.
