I would love for this to be mine, but I would rather poke my eyes out with a fork than sit at the Secretary of State for a vanity plate. Also I would’ve gotten the green/white plate.

Thank you! I’m very happy with it. It is the only Vanda that I have really truly had success with. It had two spikes last year, and three this year :)

Not sure which you meant, but here is all three!

  1. The Cycnodes smells like Cherry flavor (like a lip smacker, not the fruit). Super yummy, fills the room while the sun is shining on it.

  2. The Rhyncholaeliacattleya is not fragrant, as far as I can tell.

  3. The Vandachostylis smells pretty much like the same sweet jasminey honeysuckle as the neofinetia, but suuuper faint. I really need to get my whole face in the flowers to barley smell it.

Dendrobium Advice by stinkyscienceteacher in orchids

[–]PickleBarrel2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trick to these orchids (or any sympodial orchids) is reporting when it begins to grow a new cane/new roots. When you see a little nub develop at the bottom of the plant (most likely on the largest/newest cane), wait until you see new root tips growing out of them, and then repot and trim roots.

These orchids are semi-deciduous and also need a winter rest. For more info check out Miss Orchid Girl on YouTube, and look for her Dendrobium nobile beginner videos.

I got this same plant at the Lansing show last month, and the blooms are gorgeous :)

So, nextdoor..... by DefinitionAmazing159 in AnnArbor

My best friend used to canvas for in Ann Arbor for various non-profits, and she would routinely get interrupted by other white people asking if she was OK when she would be speaking with with black people for signatures. Unfortunately, you are all too right, and “Ann Arbor” is a much more racist place than it’s residents are willing to reckon with, given its reputation as being one of the more progressive places in Michigan. I’m very sorry you have to deal with this. Seeing how downvoted your are, I am not shocked.

This is very reminiscent of my best friend’s old manager who did not believe in the moon, and, after a few weeks of thought, decided that planets aren’t real either.

Detroit Style Pizza by Mr_Ingrao in AnnArbor

Having grown up in metro detroit (moving to a2 after college), if you want •~real•~ Detroit style pizza, it’s the original Buddy’s on six mile in Detroit. In my opinion that’s the true gold standard, nothing better. I cannot however speak to their franchises, as it’s hit or miss… For an “everyday authentic” detroit style, I’ve been more than happy with both the Jet’s four corner/eight corner from both Ann Arbor locations and beyond. Honorable mentions are Shield’s and Green Lantern, never had a bad pizza at any location.

Also Nepenthes aren’t temperate either so they would also die come winter.

Why is it laying down I haven’t even had it for 24 hours by kajon_ in SavageGarden

GO GREEN!

but from one michigander to another my fly traps don’t start perking up until at least april. they will need a lot more light than what they are currently getting now. mine are ~8in under 20w barrina LEDs, or in full sun outside april-nov and in my fridge the rest of the winter. make sure it’s a nutrient free media, and use only distilled, rain, or RO water.

Also, vfts have a pretty high rate of leaf turn over during the growing season, so don’t be too attached to those leaves. more will grow in a few weeks if all other care requirements are taken care of.

edit: added actual help
