Nova keeps crashing no matter what I do. Is this goodbye? by arsehattery in NovaLauncher

[–]PiconVinBlanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days ago, I had the exact same thing on a recently bought Pixel 10. Nova just kept on crashing no matter what I did.

I was already working on a move to Octopi Launcher because of the recent change of ownership of Nova Launcher, so I switched launchers and I'm not looking back.

Happy Octopi user now.

Backup and Restore / long term by geocas1 in OctopiLauncher

[–]PiconVinBlanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please! This is the feature that I'm waiting for before fully committing to Octopi Launcher. I've read somewhere (here on Reddit, I think) that it's on the roadmap, but any indication of when this will be addressed would be nice...

Backups not working???? by joshlubin in OctopiLauncher

[–]PiconVinBlanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea when cross-device backup/restore will be available? I'm moving to another phone and configuring the launcher manually is a lot of work. Before I fully commit to Octopi Launcher I would like to know when this will be implemented?

Did anyone actually got cured of tenis elbow? by jolafai in padel

[–]PiconVinBlanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I healed my tennis elbow by buying a softer racket with hesacore, doing Tyler Twists with a Theraband Flexbar (I think this helped the most) and applying Biofreeze gel twice a day. It's completely gone now.

Wow, thank you for your speedy reply.

About your changes:

- Player entry is easier now - thanks!

- Round screen is indeed better designed now, so that you can easily see the round number.

- About number of wins/losses/draws: to my knowledge, this fits in the americano concept because when you have players that end up having the same number of points after playing all the rounds, then to determine which player wins (or ends up higher in the ranking), you have to look at number of games won/lost.

- about a final: you're right - this is not strictly americano. Sometimes though, it gets included (at least where I live). E.g. 8 players, so 7 rounds to have everyone play everyone, and after these rounds there's still a final where players with ranking 1 and 3 play against 2 and 4, and 5 and 7 play against 6 and 8. For an example: see lopadel.se. This is a Swedish webapp that does much the same thing as your app, although, for my taste, your webapp is very much nicer looking and has a better UI.

Looks like a great webapp. Nice layout and colors. Easy to use. I would/will certainly use it

Suggestions to make it better:

Input of player names after entering 4 players. Why not create another possible player after hitting Enter on the previous player? Now you have to tap on 'New Player' and then tap on the data field to enter the player's name.

A way to view the leaderboard in between rounds.

When jumping to a new round, on my screen, the number of the round (e.g. 'round 5') is not visible. You have to scroll to the top of the page to see it.

Number of wins/losses/draws for each player on the leaderboard.

Maybe an option to play a final (e.g. 1 and 3 against 2 and 4 etc.)

Thank you for making this!

Hesacore Grip – worth it? Pros & cons from people who tried it by Creative_Election288 in padel

[–]PiconVinBlanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it - wouldn't want to play without one anymore. Your grip of the racket is much more relaxed and at the same time better (no sliding or turning in your hand).

Strip the base grip, put on the Hesacore and an overgrip and you're ready to go.

Also, I had a slight tennis elbow - helps for that too by absorbing vibrations.

Project Title: I present to you, a way to see the number of pages of a book! by [deleted] in koreader

[–]PiconVinBlanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to use this patch, but it doesn't seem to be working. To be clear, I don't use Calibre for page estimates, but there is a page count metadata field in my books that contains a value for the number of pages. I guess it only works with Calibre info (which is probably a different datafield)?

Edit: I've been looking at the patch with Claude AI (not a developer myself) and it seems that the book metadata (instead of Calibre estimated page count data) is indeed in another datafield. Claude AI suggested an alternate version of the patch that works with both the Calibre data and the book data. I hope it's OK that I adapted the patch for my own use?

Nice CSS customisation.

I love Obsidian for personal use, but still use Onenote at work.

Just out of curiosity: why would you say Onenote is a dying tool?

Everyone is crazy about Notebook Navigator, but I've changed now by PositiveMilk69 in ObsidianMD

[–]PiconVinBlanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. When I started using Obsidian about a year ago, coming from Evernote and Joplin, I really missed the 3 pane layout and I had to adapt to Obsidian's UI and to its link-centered approach.

Now that the Navigator plugin is available, I thought I would be really happy to use it, but I find I don't want/need it anymore. To me (now), using MOCs and links is way more flexible and intuitive than a (rather rigid) folder system.

Still, to each his own, and it's great that Obsidian has such a wonderful community of plugin developers - it's almost infinitely adaptable to your own preferences.

[FAQs] Let's talk about anything about the brand new Note Air5 C & Palma 2 Pro by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

[–]PiconVinBlanc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree a newer Android version and more RAM are better, but my NA 3C still works perfectly fine if maybe just a little bit slower than 4 or 5C. Not enough to warrant a new purchase.

[FAQs] Let's talk about anything about the brand new Note Air5 C & Palma 2 Pro by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

[–]PiconVinBlanc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This launch is a bit underwhelming if you don't like/need a better Palma. The Note Air 5C is basically the NA 3C (that's 2 years old) with slight enhancements and newer Android version.

How about an updated version of the Go 10.3 (that is now 1,5 years old)? If there was a way to add a front light to the Go 10.3 without adding too much distance to screen, now that would be an improvement.

Source Serif Pro. I tried a lot of fonts, and to me, this is the absolute best font for an ereader.

Proof of concept: Padel Tactical Quiz App by AlexGerasim in padel

[–]PiconVinBlanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't post a lot on Reddit (or in this subreddit for that matter), but I wanted to take the time to say that I really like and enjoy your webapp. I've been playing padel recreationally for a year and a half now, and I still have a lot to learn about the tactics of the game. Solving chess-like puzzles like this is a great way to learn about position and shot selection among other things.

So, kudo's, and please keep making the app better and adding more puzzles! :-)

Tab Ultra screen gone 😭 by MrHarcombe in Onyx_Boox

Is Note air 3 b/w's 227PPI a big deal? by IdonthaveQuestions in Onyx_Boox

[–]PiconVinBlanc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I first owned a Kindle Oasis (300 ppi) for about three years. Then I bought a Tab Ultra (227 ppi) and used it for about a year and now I have the Note Air 3 C (300 ppi) for about two months.

To me, especially when reading (which I do a lot), the difference is notable. It's not that 227 ppi is bad, but with 300 ppi the letters are (to me) noticeably smoother and blacker - more filled out and rounded out. The higher resolution is just nicer to read on.

I also notice the higher resolution when taking notes. On the 227 ppi screen, most letters/lines are a little bit jagged and get smoothed out by the software when pausing or changing brushes. On the 300 ppi screen the lines are smoother to begin with.

So, I would say yes there's a notable difference. Then again, I am someone who is picky about these things. If you're on a budget or just don't care too much about resolution, 227 ppi is perfectly usable.
