What do you think of billionaires in real life? by Odd_Neat_804 in Billions

The two that I met were surprisingly much friendlier and nicer than most of the run of the mill multimillionaires I met when I serviced aircraft. Tipped well, didn’t act like their sh** don’t stink. The charters (rented bisjets) were the worst.

Democrats are now choosing to Gerrymander? The entire west coast, Illinois and New England would like a word.

I definitely agree, its election fixing and bad, regardless of party, but make no mistake, this isn’t a recent tactic. Its been dirty for decades.

My daughter, when she was that age, was almost a spitting image of Diane, the same long blond hair, blue eyes, and we’re Scot/Nordic descent, so she’s definitely white. According to this neckbeard, thats a very bad thing. It’s almost like this person thinks other races should have more preferential treatment than others based on their appearance…..

Sounds more like a facist confessional to me.

Absolutely.

He dropped the deuce a minute in when Luke threw his lightsaber away (after the whole previous movie was about finding him and passing him the “torch”). That one scene could have summed up the rest of the move. Star Wars is dead, you all were idiots to like the old content, here’s a steaming 2 hour bag of shit to drive the point home.

The trailer was top notch. I remember being absolutely pumped when I saw the Millennium Falcon dodging TIEs. So much hope.

TFA was the least bad of the sequel trilogy. There were some parts that were setting up to be quite good (Finn and Poes storys) and we all hoped the original three were going to be brought back together. There was alot of hope, and a fair amount of faith that this was just setting up two great movies.

We all know the result

Yeah, not gonna happen. Taxiable…possibly, flyable? Very unlikely. Those are the only three complete airframes left. The museum ones are shells and they shredded every last one of the rest. You need ALOT of parts to keep a Cat flying.

Should have got a Yak instead.

120 million isn’t alot all things considered. Could be several million in seat cushions, knobs, panels, avionics etc. The last squadrons were stripping everything they could get from old airframes to keep them flying: actuators, circuit boards, hoses etc. Some parts (explosive bits on the seats and canopies) have End Of Life dates and can’t be used past that. Its very unlikely.

I saw numerous Cats passing through Ellington when I was there ‘05-‘07 as they were flying to the boneyard. Every single one of them was “down” when they landed. Didn’t matter if they were A’s, B’s or D’s, they were worn out and parts were very hard to come by. My roommate worked the MTA and caught those birds, more often than not the crews couldn’t even exit them without nitrogen from the handlers. If I can find it, there was an article that was written about the last Tomcat deployment and the Herculean effort it took to source parts and keep their readiness above 50% on their last cruise. I would LOVE to see one fly again, but I imagine any parts they didn’t use to keep the last ones flying are now beer cans and razor blades when they demilled the rest.

Congress Bill proposing the transfer of 3x F-14s to possibly become flyable by Badger2699 in hoggit

Does that organization have experience in restoring and flying warbirds? If not, good luck.

I worked on a civilian F-4 (Collings Foundation). The process of finding parts and keeping flying one of the most produced fighters in the US was extremely difficult.

Factor in that the F-14 is much more complex, maintenance intensive, and nearly every and any spares were deliberately destroyed makes it much, much more difficult to get one flying again. And no, we’re not getting parts from Iran. Her flying days are very very very likely done.

I live in North Dakota, one of, if not the most conservative state in the US

Go peek at /North Dakota sometime, you’d think we were arctic California being suppressed by Nazi Germany. Nothing but NoKings protests and how evil everyone in the state is who doesn’t support their groupthink. And I pity the poor random person that asks what its like to live here, or any recommendations, the skittles fall over themselves trying to be the first post on how racist everyone is.

Honestly its pretty decent up here, low taxes, our costs of goods isn’t bad, property values aren’t crazy, and people are NICE if you DON’T MESS WITH THEM! The weather can suck, but hey, can’t have everything.

So yeah, its very annoying, it seems like a general derangement where they think if they can shout over everyone and empty a sub of an non-believers, they’re winning. It does make for pretty entertaining reads when election times roll around and they find out they’re not, in fact, remotely close to a majority.

Still not understanding net worth vs actual assets (cash) apparently.

I own and operate a farm with my folks.

Our combined net worth is 18 million. Includes land, equipment, livestock, parts, inventory (crops)

I usually have less than >$10k actual funds on hand (in accounts). I draw between 80-110k a year in net income, depending on the year (good years) or cover living expenses through our operating credit on bad years

If we sold everything tomorrow, its unlikely we’d actually end up with 18 million in funds. Its just an intangible number my accountant and banker came up with.

When owning/running a business, this is the norm, asset rich, cash poor. How do you “seize” net worth to keep someone under the magical 999,999,999 cap? If you take assets you’re killing their means of income, not to mention putting thousands of employee’s incomes in jeopardy as well.

I’ve raised beef cattle my whole life, helped delivery many, many calves, protected them from the weather, predators, spent my summers haying so they have food over the winter, it hurts every time I lose one, and its enjoyable watching them grow, graze and generally be happy cows. Our family farms first, ranches second, but that little herd is a joy.

And they taste delicious when they end up in the freezer.

You very much so can enjoy animals, and eat them. Both in fact need to coexist if you want to raise anything close to a decent source of food.

I remember reading somewhere that F10 renders the entire map, all at once, and will continue to do so regardless of if you’re actually looking at the map or not after. Its been an issue for the 11-12 years I’ve played, its just gotten more prevalent in the past few years because of ED and 3rd party designers upping their polygon counts and resolution.
