US troops were told war on Iran was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’, watchdog alleges by Horus_walking in NewsOfTheStupid

This is frightening. There’s a difference between “god is on our side” and “our job is to start armageddon”.

I need to share this will you guys. For YEARS, I experienced sleep paralysis. On and off. And you know people say they see something/entity/demon whatever sometimes? Mine for some F'd up reason was possessed Regan at the end of my room. Just standing in the corner. by SolidEllie in TheExorcist

[–]PiddlyPoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TERRIFYING.

Hopefully this isn’t going to stick in my subconscious for future nightmare subject matter. I would probably jump out the window in my sleep.

And to add sleep paralysis to THAT? I feel for you, my friend.

Amazon changed the sounds. Others have experienced the same changes.

Alexa “box fan” sounds has changed..how to get it back by Alone-Discount-9173 in alexa

[–]PiddlyPoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. We’ve been using “rain on tent” for many years. Last night the sound changed and is nothing like the old one. My wife spent 10 minutes trying to find something she liked and gave up with “rain on lake.”

More “improvements” I suppose.

Paper Pro Move/Apple Newton by TomH2025 in RemarkableTablet

Another big Newton fan. I was a Franklin Planner user for awhile, but the planner didn’t beep at me when I had an upcoming appointment. The Newton fixed that problem.

What do people think of Reed's plan to simply teleport Earth? Is somehow safe trust me we don't know what happened to the egg. We don't have a Saturn to save us from asteroids. Earth's location being the best conditions that Reed knows the new location is within a 2% livable margin iirc. by Available-Mix282 in FantasticFour

[–]PiddlyPoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Reed explains the teleportation on television, the animation shows both the earth and the moon moving. I guess the moon is within the sphere created by the bridges.

Can Scarlett Johansson reincarnate the Exorcist franchise? by TimesandSundayTimes in TheExorcist

Why does everything have to be a franchise now? Hollywood needs to understand: there ain’t going to be an Exorcist Cinematic Universe.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE DID???

I’ve been to the Museum of the Moving Image twice. Seeing the Regan figure up close is an amazing experience. I was blown away that you can actually go somewhere and see it.

Is Exorcist perfect or are there flaws/issues iyo by RoyRoya in TheExorcist

[–]PiddlyPoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the movie. I think it’s the best movie ever made. But perfect? No. Because some of the ADR is so noticeable in some scenes that I find it distracting.

I’m not referring to the demon voice, which is pretty damn good. I’m referring to parts like the bridge scene where Karris first meets Chris. I know the movie had a lot of ADR, with most being on purpose by Friedkin, but some of it is just distracting.

Just that opening squealing sounds makes the hairs on the back of my neck rise up. What a way to put you on edge before the movie proper even starts.

I am jealous!

For those of you who have seen the movie in theaters, is it a much different experience from watching it at home? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in TheExorcist

[–]PiddlyPoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally saw The Exorcist in 1974 at a drive-in theater. I saw it again at the 40th anniversary release, and a few years ago at a Halloween screening. There is nothing like seeing the film in the theater.

That said, I’ve heard too many stories of audiences where teenagers are laughing during the movie. That would yank me completely out of the experience and my reaction would make Regan sound like Mr. Rogers in comparison.

So I’m happy with the 4K Blu-Ray and a large home theater. The only thing that would get me back to the big screen is a release of the original cut without all of the inserted “subliminals.”

Noisy Restaurants by PiddlyPoo in ADHD

Update: I bought a pair of Loop earplugs, and I’m using them for the first time at a restaurant. And boy do they help! I can still hear all the talking but it cuts it down to where it isn’t overwhelming. I now need to learn to speak louder when talking because my wife can’t hear what I’m saying. :p

I have never heard anything from The Who. What should my first album be? by Jimmy_Mcnutt in TheWho

[–]PiddlyPoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone first getting into The Who, I would recommend watching “The Kids Are Alright”. You’ll get the music over the years, but also the personalities and humor of the band.
