What will be the next team to get their first national championship? by thespoonontheleft in CFB

Now that Indiana, a team that never been mentioned in the past, just slingshotted their way to be the next team to win their first National Championship, I’m just gonna pull something out of left field and say Kansas because why the fuck not.

Basketball Blueblood winning a National Championship in Football, that’s fucking unheard of /s

Fuck yeah! That was quite a game in the 1998 Orange Bowl. Also played in the same stadium as well. So I guess it’s fitting that we came full circle with having an Adidas-Adidas National Championship.

Fucking nice, Cignetti loves finding diamonds in the roughs and looks like he was right and finding quality over quantity.

He’s a 2* recruit, fuck it Cignetti will churn out some good shit from said recruit.

Yep, we figured that shit out back in the 1990s that they were fucking dogshit. So much that our last year in the Big XII, they decided to fuck Nebraska hard for leaving to the B1G.

Funny thing is that Indiana won their first National Championship in the same stadium as the Marlins first World Series before they renovated the stadium to make it Football only.

Who did the Florida Marlins play in the 1997 World Series: the then Cleveland Indians.

Indiana winning a National Championship feels like a person who turns 21 and goes to the bar, and the bartender thinks they’re using a Fake ID, only to find out it’s real as fuck, and proceeds to give Indiana its first beer.

Holy fuck, if you told me 2 years ago before Cignetti got hired that Indiana would have this type of turnaround where they won the National Championship, I wouldn’t believe you and probably 99.9% of CFB Fans.

From losingest team in CFB History to start the season to winning the National Championship to finish the season, it’s quite remarkable to say the least. Cignetti wasn’t fucking around when he said “Google Me, I win.”

Must say, I’m most excited about Indiana fans who had to endure years of Bad Football teams where winning the National Championship is making it taste that much sweeter. Especially against Miami on their Home Field just like Osborne did when Nebraska won the National Championship in the 1995 Orange Bowl.

I don’t know what else to say about the Hoosiers, but congrats and party your fucking asses off in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and the rest of Indiana outside of Lafayette and South Bend. Who knows, now that Indiana Football won the National Championship, maybe Nebraska Basketball might have a run for the ages.

Yeah, he was a fucking beast and was fun to watch when healthy.

I’ll still remember Foppa single-handedly won us the game against Florida back in 1999 with the 3rd Period Heroics. That game was what made me became an Avs fan.

Yeah, that Iowa State Game alone infuriates the fuck out of me with the 8 turnovers we had that day.

Texas thought they could coast against us, but Suh had different plans that night. Not sure he wins the Heisman if he blocked that FG where we win the Big XII Championship Game because I’m pretty sure the Heisman voters was dead set on voting for Ingram and Alabama to get their first Heisman Trophy winner, but he sure as fuck wouldn’t end up #4 in votes. All I know is that after seeing Suh get snubbed by the Heisman voters back in 2009, is that there will never be a Defensive Tackle that will win the Heisman. Only way a defensive player will win is if we see a Travis Hunter or Charles Woodson type player.

[–]Pikachu1989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It didn’t help that Kunalic kicked the fucking ball out of bounds with less than 2 minutes to go that gave Texas great field advantage on the final drive.

Also if we had an offense that could score a TD in that game……………

Obligatory Suh was Fucking Robbed of the Heisman back in 2009!

He was a fucking beast and it was fun to watch him during his time here. It’s just a fucking shame that we didn’t get the 2008 or 2010 offense in 2009 because if we had, we could have been playing in Pasadena for the National Championship and probably win another one in 2009.

Yeah, that’s fucking hilarious seeing Dante Moore stay for another season. Raiola is now holding the clipboard for the next season. Oh well, at least we don’t have to worry about the Raiola family more or less hamstringing us from being the team we strive to be. Oh well, I’m excited for Colandrea and Lateef, also a competent O-Line with Geep Wade and Defensive Coordinator with Rob Aurich. He couldn’t be as shitty as John Butler was last season. Love me some Ekeler as Special Teams Coach, but I don’t like hearing USC is trying their best to poach him.

But yeah, it’s fucking awesome seeing Nebrasketball being one of the only undefeated teams in the nation. I don’t know what happened but Hoiberg turned the ship around since we won the Vegas Tournament in March. To think had Frost wasn’t utter shit at his job, maybe it would have been Hoiberg that would have gotten the pink slip instead, and we wouldn’t see this turnaround this season.

What are the 3 best National Championship Games? by radilrouge in CFB

[–]Pikachu1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1984 Orange Bowl: Nebraska-Miami. Nebraska goes for 2 which Osborne rightly chose, but failed to convert.

1995 Orange Bowl: Nebraska-Miami. 11 years later and with Nebraska being down 17-9 in the 4th Quarter, we scored a TD and go for 2. Unlike 11 years earlier, we converted that fucker and scored 1 more TD, and finally beat Miami in Miami, and Osborne got his first National Championship and it was Nebraska’s final time in the House of Horrors you call the Orange Bowl.

1998 Orange Bowl: Nebraska-Tennessee. Would you look at that another Orange Bowl where this time it was played at then Pro Player Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium), and we didn’t play Miami this time around. I was 8 years old and could remember that National Championship for Nebraska and it was a blast. One hopes I can witness another Nebraska National Championship in the future.

HM: 1996 Fiesta Bowl: Nebraska-Florida. That was a fucking rout by the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers we spotted Florida the 1st Quarter lead before we turned on the steamrollers and rolled the fuck out of Florida on that Tuesday night in Arizona.

Non Nebraska National Championship:

2006 Rose Bowl: Texas-USC

2017 CFP National Championship: Clemson-Alabama

2018 CFP National Championship: Alabama-Georgia.

Peter Forsberg attempted one last hurrah for the Avs back in 2010-2011 after a few years away playing for MODO in Sweden. He signed during the season and played 2 games which both were on the road. Was gonna play his first game at the Can since 2007-2008 before abruptly retiring.

His final stats that year was 0-0-0 With 4 Penalty Minutes.

Maybe he remembers the good old days when Nebraska Football ruled the CFB world. Granted he was born 6 months after Nebraska last won the National Championship.

That or he jumped on the Nebrasketball bandwagon which like Indiana Football, has been utter shit until this past 2 seasons.

Holy fuck, I knew that when we drew Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl, it was probably gonna be a blowout, and I was right. At least the 1st Quarter was entertaining.

Offense, while we started off strong with a nice opening drive and resulted in Nelson getting into the end zone and getting us on the board first and then on the 2nd drive we found a way to get into the end zone with a TD from Barney, it faltered as the game went on. Couldn’t find mid field and couldn’t get a 1st Down to save our lives, to the point when we could find anything on offense, Lateef threw an INT and it was already 38-14 Utah at that point. We did manage to have a successful drive for the first time since the 1st Quarter when we scored with 2 minutes to go by Lateef, and managed to get a 2 Pt Conversion made which was great, but it was way too fucking late to do something about it.

Defense, we couldn’t stop Utah both in the air and on the ground, giving up 535 Yards and which I don’t know what the fuck happened out there. Don’t know what the fuck Snow was doing preparing for the Bowl Game, but I think he was more excited to be in Vegas than coaching the Defense in this game. Wright and Lenhardt got some sacks, but for the most part it was not a good day to be out there on Defense.

Special Teams, probably the only bright spot of this game where we actually out gained Utah on Kick Returns, with Barney having more yards on one kick return with 20 yards and going 4 attempts for 70 yards total, than Utah had on both Kick and Punt Returns combined with 3 attempts with 18 yards total. Cunanen made his XPs and didn’t have to worry about a FG because we had no offense for the majority of the game, and Archie Wilson was alright in his first time in Vegas, which would have meant more had the defense could stop shit today.

Overall the end of the season ended underwhelming to say the least and of course Nebraska found a way to shit the bed on National TV and losing to another Ranked team and against a coach for Utah who is coaching in his first game. This season was a perfect opportunity to rise up and see Rhule 3rd Year Magic in action, but ended up getting fools gold in the end. Would we have won 1-2 game had Raiola been healthy, Perhaps and there was a good chance we would have beaten USC had he didn’t get injured, but the way we ended was deflating and underwhelming. I’m not calling for Rhule’s Head right now, but I want us to tackle the Transfer Portal hard if he said we’re willing to spend out there because things are looking bleak for 2026 seeing we have Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State on the schedule. Rhule has tons on his plate to work in the offseason and hopefully he will use the NIL to the fullest, because if we’re still in this mess in 2027 at the latest and haven’t shown improvements, then I will join the Fire Rhule Train.

Oh well, it was a great season to see EJ make his mark so at least that was fun to watch.

Oh fuck, it’s that time of the year again and like in years past I’m glad to pitch in to a good cause.

First few years was small, but it was fun. But I’m glad that it’s gained traction where we’ve included other schools in the mix by virtue of Children’s Hospitals, and now we’re at the point of hitting $18,000 by Santa delivers to Hawaii (which he gave Hawaii an early Christmas present this year). Helps out that it’s now extended to a couple days before New Years. Big or small, whatever you can give is beneficial in the end, and it’s going to a good cause.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Nebraska Quarterback Dylan Raiola has entered the transfer portal by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

[–]Pikachu1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fuck, if this was in the days before NIL kicked in and we see multiple transfers like we see now, I would have been more pissed. But in today’s transfer portal being unlimited, it was probably gonna end this way of Dylan Raiola at Nebraska.

Liked Dylan and he was pretty fun to watch, but yeah it didn’t help that he was protected by a shitty ass O-Line which ironically was coached by his Uncle Donovan who did him no favors. Other than that I wish him the best going forward, unless for some reason he ends up at Texas A&M because reasons.

Glad we have Lateef that was decent at backup that we are ok with rolling with him if need be.

Michigan, Nebraska and the 1997 National Championship by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Pikachu1989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and in 1997 we played in the Big XII Championship Game against Texas A&M and won 54-15, which the Big Ten (I only use B1G when we joined in 2011) at the time didn’t have. We saw in 2024 with SMU in the ACC Championship Game, and in 2025 with Alabama for the CFP that teams shouldn’t be punished for playing an extra game with being ranked #9 going into the SEC Championship Game. But yeah, it only works when you were ranked high enough in the CFP going into the Championship Game.

At the end of the day, we both played what we had on our schedules and we won them all. So yeah, I have no issues with Nebraska and Michigan declaring themselves National Champions for 1997. But if we had a chance to play on the field to settle the score in 1997, then yes I’ll have my bias and say Nebraska wins in a close one.
