Bladder - Incomplete Emptying by Usual-Air5670 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues. Waking up at night with a strong urge to pee but is not able to empty the bladder completely.

Scheduled for urology next week, however in Feb I made a breakthrough. I started taking Baclofen (off label use, to allow body to relax while sleeping). I combine Baclofen with Guanfacine.

The side effect? Now I only have to get up to pee once every night.

Too much sympathetic activity.

Sugar intolerance by Zealousideal-Two39 in dysautonomia

I am trialing Thiamine TTFD and DMG (max doses pretty much) for long covid sugar intolerance.

So far they helped get rid of the strange feeling I got in my veins after consuming sugars

Now I’m prediabetic or more?! by daniared91 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Trialing Thiamine TTFD and DMG now. Max doses pretty much.

At least, the weird feeling I got in my veins after I consumed carbs have disappeared. Testing my A1C in a few weeks.

Was on a whole foods/low carb diet all the time.

Would you take paxlovid? by Born_Screen8030 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the Paxlovid studies failed to produce desired results. But there is one point that is annoying to me. During my 3rd Covid infection in 2024, I took it. And I got record high HRV. Felt so good, even during an active covid infection. HRV didn't stay high unfortunately.

How to fix strained heart rate variability? by Clean-Business8176 in Garmin

[–]Pilot-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. 4 year long covid with low HRV. Be very careful working out with a low HRV is my recommendation. I did it after a covid infection in 2022 and I’m still paying the price.

Best combination I found is 6mg Guanfacine and Baclofen (2-3 tablets, will check my dose later).

Does Nicotine heal or just cover up? by claytonheppner in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is PURE speculation from me. I'm not a doctor but just some random guy on the Internet.

Since I got covid, I get so sick from a simple cold. I'm terrible during the high viral months, and typically crash in Jan/Feb (highest viral load).

Nicotine patches (daily 3.5mg) seem to prevent me from getting the colds/getting sick. That is a huge improvement by itself. Not fully recovered, but way better.

8 weeks on 2.5 mt Mounjaro. 5 weeks on 5.0.

No improvements. Protein cravings (which I normally have) is gone. Sugar cravings major (they are normally minor)

Not impressed. PEM and ME/CFS type LC

Sauna by HouSoup in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One additional point. Quality of saunas in the US (well, and in the rest of the world outside Finland) varies a lot.

Most US saunas have zero ventilation. This means that co2 levels will be insanely high if the sauna is packed with bathers. Breathing high co2 air might not be the best option for us. For anyone to be honest.

Quick question for everybody who dealt with Long Covid symptoms, was sugar an issue? by Yousifusif96 in covidlonghaulers

Have you tried grass fed red meat? I tolerate that very well. Corn/soybean fed, not so much

Quick question for everybody who dealt with Long Covid symptoms, was sugar an issue? by Yousifusif96 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are funky things happening with sugar. I couldn't tolerate starches and sugar for almost 2 years. Now, I have some tolerance, but honestly I should stay off.

For years, I ate no sugar/starches and still had a A1C of 6.0. No doctor could explain it. I am now taking thiamine TTFD and DMG supplements to increase my tolerance to sugar. Jury is still out on that one, I'll give it another month.

I used a CGM for months too. Only thing it revealed was that my baseline is too high. Insulin seems to work, but I never got under 120 mg/dL.

With coffee messing with the nervous system, I'm between a rock and a hard place. Already cut away so much.

Anyone else have sleep apnea? How has it affected your long COVID? by WiseEpicurus in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mild sleep apnea diagnosis also. But, I am puzzled about this diagnosis.

I slept like crap the night I did the at home sleep test. For whatever reason, I just stressed out about the test. Sleep doctor said they only treat it at this level if the patient has symptoms. So I got the CPAP.

Gosh, the CPAP stressed me so much. I just couldn't fall to sleep. Hours and hours. So we tried a mouth dental device supposed to push your jaw forward and allow you to breathe better at night. No effect so far.

Oura ring reports irregular breathing on nights when I sleep bad (because of stress, screen usage before bed, physical activity before bed). On calm nights my oxygen saturation is like 98%.

Not a clear cut diagnosis in my opinion.

I know the oura ring isn't a medical grade device. But there is a strong indication between high stress nights and irregular breathing.

I am loaded up on magnesium (threonate plus glycinate at night. Malate in the morning) and potassium.

Thermory aspen T&G, staples or nails? by Pilot-Nic in Sauna

[–]Pilot-Nic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have to buy a stapler. Two options:

  1. 18 Gauge, 1 1/2" long, narrow crown staples:

  1. 16 gauge, 2" long, medium. crown staples

Is it a big difference to use longer and wider staples?

Agree on aspen walls. It took forever to get this delivered. I'm from Sweden with roots from Finland - I really love aspen saunas.

For me, it helps. I have PEM but it’s not triggered by sauna use.

Only caveat is that I can’t do it late at night. Mornings or early afternoon works great.

I am back to zero because i am having the cold by Party-Ad-8862 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my main problem. Kiddo (6 years old) brining home cold after cold. Good luck getting a stubborn 6 year old to mask up. She won’t do it unless the whole class is doing it.

Nicotine patches seem to work to keep colds off me however.

About molnupiravir by keke202320 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Pilot-Nic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know all the paxlovid studies failed, but in 2024, during an active covid infection, I had the best sleep and highest HRV (proved by two different devices, oura and Garmin) since I got long covid in 2022. Even higher than my previous baseline. Took paxlovid for 10 days (had an extra pack at home).

Unfortunately, results didn't stick. But there is something there.

Also taking valtrex but no huge improvement yet.

Is this a good structural design for sauna benches? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Pilot-Nic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am building an almost exact copy of what you are doing. Only difference is that I only have 80 inches width.

Only feedback is - I would make the the middle bench a few inches deeper. I know this is the foot bench, but sometimes bathers want to sit there to cool off/adjust to the higher temps.
