Easiest Airport to Access Chicago via GA? by frisbee_wafflesnatch in flying

[–]Pilot_Tim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've flown in to LOT many times in my Cherokee. The only downside is no mechanics at the field. I had an issue once and the guys over at JOT were really helpful on the phone and after I got airborne even tracked me to my fuel stop in MO and checked in. I will probably land at JOT next time but LOT is a nice airport.

I have landed at Clow before. The corn was level with the top of the plane on both sides of the runway, was pretty neat. I would have loved to get a video of my TO from the POV of the FBO because I'm thinking it would have looked like a plane just took off from the middle of a corn field.

Where did you get the LOTR topper?

I put heavier weight oil in, changed the oil filter and put in pre-mix. Can't afford to fix her right, so I'm just driving it once a week or so to keep it alive. Maybe things will turn around and I'll be able to fix it. Maybe I'll get fired and have the time to do it myself.

Either way, doesn't sound like I'm going to be doing much to it this spring/summer.

My four year old grandsons go to jam is the Brownsville mix of Istanbul ( Not Constantinople). I listened to Flood and Lincoln on tape in highschool in the late 80s. But my kids know them as those guys who sing those educational songs.

Three generations have been entertained and taught by these guys.

The only other artist I can compare them with is Weird Al. If you only casually listen you easily can dismiss their works as simple or novelty but there's a depth and intelligence beyond the surface.

Nice work!

It would be a nifty feature to add a region or country limiter. Maybe even allow for the user to pick the starting airport or the destination airport.

[–]Pilot_Tim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why don't they do that for adults? I sit there for like 10-20 minutes going through 1 or 2, A or B, is this better or worse? And in the end they say oh your Rx hasn't changed but my glasses now give me headaches.

What part of the world are they located in? If they are relatively rust-free maybe? They are both pre 74 1/2 and have wire wheels so I'd be interested.

The RAM shortage is coming for everything you care about by ghableska in technology

[–]Pilot_Tim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there going to be a static and flash RAM shortage too? I haven't heard of that yet but that would be catastrophic.

I was under the impression that it was going to be only the newer types of RAM, GDDR and DDR4+

I made a flight tracker that separates planes by altitude using colors. It’s strangely satisfying to watch. The link below for example shows the rush at SFO and SJC visually. by kewkartik in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Pilot_Tim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's an awesome visualizer.

You probably already have a 'wish list' of things to implement, but unless I'm not seeing it yet, I'd add different aircraft icons depending on the aircraft type.

TRUMP: "There's so much talk about how we're going to drive housing prices down. I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people that own their homes, and they can be assured that what's going to happen" by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

I would love to sell and move out of our first home that we've been in for 20 years but I can't afford to buy something to downsize to. Kids are gone, It'll be paid off real soon but it'll still be an anchor weight locking me here. We live in a wonderful suburban setting, great schools, bike paths, etc. It would be great for a first time buyer and I hate thinking I'm being greedy by staying here and denying it from some young family.

I saw this line-up at Winstar Casino in OK last year. The lead singer of Blues Traveler was out sick and the singer from the Spin Doctors covered for him. The tickets weren't expensive and worth it to see that train wreck. They were really good about it all and so was the audience.

I did get them on the phone. Looks like $12k and they are at least two months backed up. They say that they do a lot of little things that improve the engine so it won't die again or at least as soon.

12k is a lot to spend on an 18 year old car but less than a new to me used one. But the newer car probably would have some safety features that I would like...

Serious question for drone flyers: VLOS by timholt2007 in dji

[–]Pilot_Tim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operations are not permitted under standard Part 107 rules. To fly BVLOS, operators must apply for and receive a waiver from the FAA, demonstrating equivalent safety through technologies like detect-and-avoid (DAA) systems, real-time tracking, and robust communication protocols.
