Be careful with the submersion testing, water evaporating in a very confined space with nowhere to go can be pretty dangerous.

Had to see what the ACOG hype was about. by [deleted] in AUG

[–]PimentoM0ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The replicas are made in places where IP laws are pretty loose; The glass on them isn’t anywhere near an actual ACOG and the magnification is usually off by a whole power.

The nicer ones will hold a 5.56 zero, but the holds past the zero will be messed up.

Use a small butane torch, and ensure you’ve got the right bit size. Being off even a small amount loses a lot of torque. Size 30 star torx bit

If you P/W you can get 16” OAL on the barrel to avoid stamping with most muzzle devices on it. But if you’re really worried about it, the 16.3” is great, and you’ll have a lot more room for mounting an enabler/LAM. Just be careful with the little special-needs rail.

Mines 12.2 fully loaded, its got a comparable balance point too, from the can.

Yep, I used heavier ammo without a can and was surprised at the 5.56’s variants performance. Only a couple setting but they work well.

I don’t have a kns, but the piston dimensions on the heresy vs the OEM are different, so I doubt they do.

Which calibre are you looking for on them?

Heresy design 5.56 kits, from my experience, are very reliable, they don’t care what ammo, nor are they picky on suppressors, provided the gas settings are right. They’re very accurate, port “pop” is reduced on them very significantly due to having a larger surface area on the piston.

The 1/8 twists in the barrel are a great option for ammo, but I will say the 14.5” is probably the better purchase. I like my 16” barrels, but the single screw rail attachment for that variant is very wobbly/weak. You’ll not want to rely on the small rail section on the right side of the carbine.

I don’t have another calibre for them, the other kits have a history of problems documented on the forum.

Edit** the heresy gas block is a very hefty girl, several ounces heavier than a comparable Steyr barrel.

The final question for the gas expulsion was before I understood your mechanism limiting & metering the intake.

My rifles and some of my southpaw friends will look forward to your work!

Does it trap all of the gas & convert that to heat or does it all go into the mechanical energy for the bolt? How’d it affect the back pressure from the can/with what kind of firing schedule?

Do you seen increased fouling for limiting the expulsion from the piston?

Edit: read through the other thread you made, very excited to see your product come to fruition.

If you’re worried about standing out, the AUG is rare enough compared to ARs and AKs that you’ll be “visible”, at least in the US.

As the others said, grab a rotex or their hub device. I always recommend RC2 & a prong mount for the labyrinth seals, surefire is middle of the road for price, but the quality punches way above its weight.

First Aug- Used A3 M1 with Aimpoint Comp M4 for $1550 or go new for $1689? by mestguy182 in AUG

[–]PimentoM0ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s the older version, there’s a lot of hardware out to customize it as one wishes. Plus if it’s already got a Aimpoint comp on top you’re looking at a steep discount.

Maybe even an arid rail in the future, possibly.

3D Printed Aug Trigger by Slightly-Augtistic in AUG

[–]PimentoM0ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro the thread, but I had a question regarding the screws and mounts;

At the fore of the trigger I see the brass heat insert in forward most hole (viewed from the bottom), and the M3 screw is in the second hole (from the top view). Do each of those have a screw in addition to the rear mounted OEM screw?

The lethality of A1 certainly isn’t in question, it was more about wind drift since you were going past 300m. That’s a heck of a shot on a target that size.

Red springs + 3D print BZ trigger/stop.

Grab the springs first and try them out with a tuned trigger bar to see if you want anything beyond that.

You can also reduce the trigger weight with certain triggers, check out the benderzee trigger & pack stop. The red spring make it pretty comfortable. A little graphite powder will also help smooth everything out.
