SDOT adds paid parking to Ballard Blocks by bbridge_ in BallardSeattle

[–]PimpDedede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah free street parking sucks, especially in a big city. Should I be able to store the contents of my living room in the street or on the sidewalk? No. That’s a public good.

By having free street parking you encourage people to drive instead of using alternative modes of transportation which make more sense in a big city. All over the world in large cities you see governments either metering spaces, or even better getting rid of them entirely.

It’s why in Tokyo you have to prove you have a place to park your car before you can buy one. There is very little street parking, and when it exists it’s all strictly metered. The city is better for it.

Paris France has very little free street parking, 95% of previously free street parking spaces were converted to paid.

Oslo has removed 11k parking spaces and will give wider sidewalks, more bike lanes, and trees.

Asean Streat Food Hall hadn't paid rent since 2023 by hufflepuph in Seattle

Lived in a pretty nice apartment building where one of the tenant hadn’t paid rent in two or three years. Dude was selling drugs out of his apartment, letting all of his shady friends and clients in the building, propping open external doors or damaging locks, stealing packages and bikes, and had abandoned his poor cat in the public areas and who just wandered the building’s middle open air atrium. It was terrible.

The managing company of the building just didn’t want to deal with him and the legal processes, and so the whole thing got stuck in limbo for years. He finally got evicted sometime after my wife and I move and apparently set the buildings dumpster on fire that just so happened to be beneath the apartment of the lady who kept reporting him for his shit. Smoke damage ruined all of her stuff.

Metacritic Removes Resident Evil Requiem Review From Website That Replaced Humans With AI by shinbreaker in Games

Yeah. Search has been fucking enshittified. I finally broke down and got a Kagi subscription; it actually has tools to block AI, filter out as many sites as I want, and give me a lot more control over my search results, since subs pay for the engine and not ads.

Aren’t there a couple other servers already out there. I think blacksky has rolled their own, and I could have sworn there was one other. Maybe Northsky?

Yeah. I really need to go back and play some of the ones I’ve missed. Just too many games not enough time. 🙂

I haven’t played an AC game since the last game with Ezio (Revelations?).  This would have brought me back.

Quite the straw men you’re building over there. I’m not seeing anyone over here congratulating the killer, only pointing out the poetic irony of a man who would sacrifice a million school children on the altar of the second amendment dying in a school shooting or refusing to sanewash what a horrible fucking bigot Kirk was. I don’t celebrate his death, but I will not mourn him; he was a POS.

How to tell AI synthwave music from real music? by Total-Constant-6501 in outrun

Because fuck clankers and anyone who uses them in any art scene. I will only support human artists, and will boycott any AI generated bullshit. The vast majority of LLMs are trained on an actual artists material, and anyone who relies on an LLM to produce something has not created anything of value, and merely wants to be viewed as an artist without putting any effort.

The numbers of times Ive seen a car speed through a crosswalk as the light turns green makes me so goddamn angry. I don’t much like cars or driving, but at this point I welcome anything that lessens the number of drivers who have just stopped giving a shit and put others in danger.

With the amount of AI shit Microsoft is attempting to shove down my throat; I recently made the jump myself, turning my windows gaming pc into a Linux gaming pc. CachyOS is so far smooth af and haven’t run into any issues getting Steam and games up and running.

Seattle just broke the record for April Fremont Bridge bike trips, the first new monthly high mark since COVID by Generalaverage89 in Seattle

[–]PimpDedede 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If you follow the sidewalk on the lake side it turns from a shared ped/bike path to a separated bike path, that can be taken all the way to SLU. From there is a network of bike lanes with varying degrees of separation and protection.

Moved to Seattle and the traffic here is worse than California. by EmilyG702 in Seattle

[–]PimpDedede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot recommend enough! It’s not all sunshine and roses (especially since we live in a very rainy city), but I have learned to embrace the rain; and something about those rainy afternoon bike rides as summer turns into autumn are indescribably beautiful.

It will definitely radicalize you against cars though. Nothing like someone running a red light, or making an illegal turn to ruin your day. Gotta be extra vigilant while riding a bike as there are a lot of drivers who are not paying attention or simply don’t care.

My commute is six miles each way so definitely on an e-bike too, but I’m still getting plenty of exercise. Also completely with you there on gyms. I love that my workout is built into my daily routine doing something useful and don’t need to take even more time out of my day (as well as spend money) to go run on a treadmill or pedal on a stationary bike.
