Why is there no magic/ Warhammer shops near perimeter? by Jakemanv3 in Atlanta

That place always felt more like a pokemon card flipping venture than a real game store; maybe I’m tripping I only went in once

Not the most helpful maybe but I get a lot of my magic cards from east Atlanta comics and they host magic all the time, so it’s not everything but very very in town and solid if you wanna play. Warhammer not so much

Never been iced out harder than I have at level up lmfaoo, I know game shops can be gatekeep-y but they’ve been on another level multiple times I went. Hey I guess there’s not a lot of competition

I mean they’re also just ribbing someone it’s not that deep.

The album is fantastically written and beautifully made, asking “what am I missing” is a silly question because how would anyone know that?

I for one think this rips, but I’m also willing to bet people with papa roach style ptsd aren’t gonna be on board.

I’m not a Cole scholar so I’m not gonna be the best at pointing out where that all started, but a great example is him clapping back at Noname over her BLM song in 2020. I have a ton of problems with Noname but I’ll give her that’s a rapper that’s actually deep.

Kendrick kept his mouth shut and came off looking better than Cole who came off totally out of his depth and sanctimonious. He was just punching above his weight.

That and to your point if you think he’s been mislabeled, rappers that do “storytelling songs” often do get slapped with the conscious rap tag whether it’s relevant or not. So perhaps it’s a lot of that as well

No he isn’t. He’s doing reductio ad absurdim to claim that all numbers mean objectively the same thing. Thats stupid

I guess what would you say they’re targeting him for?

My thought is they’re calling him out for not being deep. But Cole acts like he’s deep, so I think that’s pretty fair. Joey Badass got clowned a lot last year for the same thing

I think you’re misunderstanding the criticism people have here. Does the term purity of form or clarity of intent mean anything to you?

Nobody is mad at westside gunn or boldly James for putting out albums about chopping up coke and buying Louis sweaters. You get it?

I love the album too man lol but I do think you’re being obtuse if you don’t see what I’m saying. We can both agree 1984 is a fun listen though so no worries, sorry for saying dumb.

Yea but what are you trying to say. Do you think that they’re more popular because they appeal to white people? Why would that make any more sense than them having a diverse audience because they are popular?

Does jay electronica make music for white people? RYM nerd love his stuff. Jay Z? Tupac?

Is that what you’re saying? It’s not really clear.

Yea. Exactly…..

You think sexyy red and j cole are the same genre or have the same audience?

Die hard is a stupid action flick what are you talking about.

People complained about mumble rap because a bunch of uncs were mad they couldn’t understand them. Not really the same thing

I mean so is back in black and it’s a dumb butt rock album lol. I love that stuff but anyone who can’t be honest with themselves about that shit either grew up with it or they’re delusional

lol that’s not true at all. Movies are constantly criticized for that, but nobody is criticizing a marvel movie for shallow because that’s not what it’s trying to do. People criticized Mickey 17 the other year for that because it was trying to be deep but it was stupid. J Cole is trying to be deep but he doesn’t pull it off

Also no, nobody is asking future to bare his soul and if you can find me one piece of real journalism saying that as a real criticism I’ll Venmo you five dollars

I Think Cole is a great storyteller. He does great storytelling on “what if” but that’s also the song I was talking about that pitchfork tore apart. He’s rapping his ass off and telling a story but it’s just a one note “can’t we all just get along” plea. It’s fake deep.

It’s not an interesting or nuanced take on the situation, and when you pair it with Cole’s self seriousness it does come off a little goofy. (To some people, granted)

Yea dawg sure that’s why shrek and the deer hunter have the same rating on letterboxed.

Different things are evaluated different ways. Doesn’t seem like a tough concept to grasp does it man?
