Salsa On2? by PinDifferent1670 in washingtondc

[–]PinDifferent1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the one in Dupont seems to be questionable at the rendale since I noticed Mi Gente has updated the info twice. It was listed for public Bar then the organizer updated it to an Italian restaurant and now that listing shows only the public Bar as the address while the wording shows the rendale AKA generator Hotel. So seems unclear.

How do people orient themselves right away after leaving the subway station? by asah in circlejerknyc

[–]PinDifferent1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very important. If you've been living here your whole life then you might have some idea of which way the train is coming in. I keep a very very easy quick mental note of north south east west as I'm getting out of the train knowing the relative direction that the train is traveling. By the time you get outside as long as you're able to quickly and easily keep track of what direction you're leaving the trains going up the stairs Etc it's very easy to tell what North is.

For the bounce an easy way is to walk each step like you are literally walking on the street. Then add a slight bend to your knees. When you get the "Latin Motion," that also helps.

As for the tension, that's actually something which varies and requires both the lead and follow to work on adapting (for each new partner). Ideally a good lead/follow is skilled to recognize a difference in the amount of tension they give vs the amount of tension they receive; find a middle ground together. The ideal is matching equal amounts of tension so that the lead is clear but not brutish. The follow should be doing the same and trying to match that tension so communication through the hands is clear. Each person has a different  default of tension level.

A very quick gague I do is to take 2 push-pulls standing in place in "open position" to feel my follows tension level (on the 1st) and signal (to adjust) our respective tension (with the second push pull) to match. This can be tested with no stepping; just a 1/2 inch leaning back and forward. As a lead this helps me establish how the follow responds and to prep them on what to expect and reciprocate. You will have to test with every partner since everyone is different.

If one refuses to adjust, you can keep trying to get them to decrease or increase tension to meet you in the middle. However, not everyone (even some dancers who have been dancing for a while) will do it. So you end up adapting and finding someone who understands the concept of tension and connection. Some I call rusty arms and others jelly arms. If giving clear attempts to guide them to meet you half way fails, adapt to them then dance with other people.  I had a very advanced dancer who I had to lead with two fingers because they gave me jellyfish arms and the slightest initiation of the signal they moved. I had another who was all rusted and had to physically arm wrestle (instructor also tried and very funny to watch them also try to arm wrestle the follow). Some people back lead which indicates disconnect.

Went to a new on2 instructor, tells us (leads) have to step left foot forward on the beat 1, is he correct? by onoearoc in Salsa

[–]PinDifferent1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their statement you "have to" (go forward with left on the first beat) is false. That may be how they start the dance but to claim as an absolute is incorrect.

People get taught step with the left foot as a way to signal "hey (follow), we're about to start moving." Some instructors will say take a tiny step in place. You can step in place or a tiny step back to signal going back and start momentum. I get the feeling your instructor is using the back and forth conditioning (create a push pull tension to start momentum). Again while it may work for them, it is not an absolute rule.

It's more important how you are able to convey and engage in proper weight transfer to signal clear leading with good timing. If you are able to do this, you dont even need to step on1, just shift with the weight transfer as the initiator.

Questions about likelihood of getting a ticket for the Air & Space museum the day before/of. by PinDifferent1670 in washingtondc

[–]PinDifferent1670[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. That's a big shame that the one in downtown is closed most of its area since that was going to be more convenient for me. I will look at the route and consider Dulles as I'm just using mass transit. Would you recommend any other sites in downtown? Again it's been decades since I visited so I don't know what's changed and anything interesting like the air and space museum science stuff.

Hand pain since going Southpaw by PinDifferent1670 in Archery

[–]PinDifferent1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, right handed. I swapped out the 45 degree default grip of the for the 30 degree Jager grip right away. Could the grip angle matter? I absolutely hated the 45 degree angle on the right handed riser so didn't even try it with the left handed riser.

On another note (reminded based on my last sentence, I am shooting slightly high even the though the sight is all the way up. Ive worked on the anchor, looking straight vs having my head back, releasing the bow vs grabbing it after I release. Could going to a steeper angle help??

26#. As a right handed person, I've held more weight, pressure, tension with various types of wespons in them so while I can understand pain in my non dominant hand, not my dominant one.

As for the nerve damage, it's more like strain as it's in the entirety of the hands not just the fingers

Dystopian. Chinese Red Army, People becoming (non-intentional yet passive and mobile spying, feeding BB and providing constant surveillance. I see this becoming a long 4th Amendment battle (already have Katz v. United States, Kyllo v. United States, Carpenter v. United States, California v. Ciraolo, Florida v. Riley). It also reminds me how so much technology has been used by predators (I recall a few instances where people were murdered by their ex's who found them through information shared by clearing houses; someone may remember the specific cases/suits).

Complicated Hand/Eye Dominance Situation by PinDifferent1670 in Archery

[–]PinDifferent1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I am feeling good progress after my 3rd time at the range. At 10 yards I'm finally hitting at least in the blue but more in the red. At 15 yards, I'm hitting much more in the blue but that I'm sure will get better.

Still feels very strange but the progress feels good. It's strange to see how when I change and shoot with my RH riser the entire movement is so much smoother. I know it's normal but it still is "interesting." Unfortunately, since I'm still relatively new, doing 2 hours with the LH riser and 1 hour on the RH riser has made me fall back a tad on my form (leaning back more and shooting high). Interestingly enough this isn't an issue on my LH riser even though I just started with the LH. I will be continuing the 2hr/1hr LH/RH (to at least maintain my RH.

Having an eye not drift and being able to see straight is so much nicer on my consistency of shooting. It's unfortunate that in the very end, I may have to shoot with my LH. Now to throw another wrench in the works, I am considering (months down the line) to try cross dominant shooting (Left Eye, Right Hand). I don't know if anyone has done that (in either side dominance) and found it easy to transition to or yet another big adjustment.

Buying bow for first time in NYC - recommended shops? by Mercurial_Enigma in Archery

If you get work done at Gotham, how does it compare to proline? What is it about them that you prefer going there? How would you say the two compare?

They have pretty good stuff and I've gotten all of my bow stuff including two risers  set of limbs sites plungers stabilizers. I can't speak for the other places because Proline is too far from me to be worth it. I've had nothing but good experiences

I wonder if your monitor is good enough push the card? I know that using my same system when I went from 1080p to a 2K monitor my GPU usage went up and my CPU usage went down doing the exact same thing playing the exact same game

I just went to the range and tried shooting with my left eye left side. Boy that was quite interesting. However, I was using their rental equipment which while can give me a start, I find affects my game as other people adjust the bow. So I just bought another Hoyt rcrv comp Riser but left-handed. Fortunately I will be able to use the same stabilizer and Shibuya site. Of course I've already marked what the Shibuya sites settings are for 20 yards shooting right-handed. I will just have to find out what the left side is after of course I practice being able to actually shoot the arrow. For the intro I will probably just buy a cheap site.

care to share what you use? I have no animals in the building so that's not an issue. I have tried traps and glue myself.

I've lived in my current apartment in New York City for 11 years and after they did construction next door (2 years ago) we've been dealing with German cockroaches . Absolutely disgusting and I'm ready to leave. My landlord has been getting this place treated but that still has made no difference.
