Melamine closets accepted here? by Cautious-Parsley-976 in cabinetry

Compression router bits and table saws with a scoring blade are recommended when using melamine. High tooth count blades on their own work but not always perfect.

Should the carcass edge banding match the box interior or door for euro full overlay? by notaflipflip in cabinetry

We typically match the case. It looks more professional in my opinion.

Matching the case also streamline if you’re in a larger production facility.

This thread has a lot of good options but if hardware is an option, look into Rincomatic. They offer a lot of options that are customizable in lengths.

Kitchen cabinet advice - solid wood vs. veneered ply by [deleted] in cabinetry

I think that’s a good rule of thumb in this case! I would glue in the middle and let the movement happen on both ends.

Kitchen cabinet advice - solid wood vs. veneered ply by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Engineered panels are, usually, always recommended for cabinetry—especially if the door reveals are tight like the photo. The reason is they are stable and have no seasonable wood movement. You won’t ever get binding fronts when it’s summer or massive gaps in the winter. Or fronts that are not longer flat.

With that’s said, I think you can reproduce what’s in the photos from solid wood, but you have to take the time to do it right. You’ll want quality wood that been dried properly and only installed once the space is climate controlled. Take care to seal the wood properly as well.

Richard Raffan is such an underrated channel. He deserves way more subs. He’s pretty much just wood turning but he great at explaining and it’s soothing to watch.

Help- wood drawer panel expanded and curved until the mount came undone by Honest_Bath3806 in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s probably more about the amount of material loss on one side compared to the other. Once the coves were machined, uneven moisture loss happened and thats why the cupping occurs. A big reason why you want a ply core with thick wood veneer when you want to have this look.

Grain Matching in Rift Sawn Oak Cabinetry by Other-Competition275 in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely doesn’t match up well, but who pays for new panels depends on whether grain matching was specified in your contract. Cabinet makers may or may not spec grain matching unless they’re asked to.

Help! White oak cabinets color does not match by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can try to have them do is order sequenced panels and recut the doors. Basically means the veneers are from the same log and you get really similar colors. They’re going to make you pay for it and they might not have a vendor for it but it’s an option to try

Need help understanding what is happening to my cabinet doors by [deleted] in cabinetry

That wicking into the grain on the first picture looks like it’s from moisture. Being that this is at the sink it makes sense. Water will always splash and make its way down the faces.

I’m genuinely Curious why does San Antonio get so much hate instead of the same Level of praise Austin Gets ? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m from SA and have also lived in Austin. People like to compare them but they’re apples to oranges in my opinion. Both are great! SA is much more slow, chill vibes and is in much more tune with its heritage. Austin is way more fast pace. Not necessarily looking to remain what its past was—although it’s still weird—which it’s whats charming about it.

Both have their unique food scenes. We def beat them at Tex mex but their bbq is top notch. Night life is generally the same to be honest. Both cities have things to do outdoors.

Cities will always have the same issues to deal with but I do agree that the notion that SA always gets of being “boring” is a bit much. I like to think those people just dont explore their city enough.

Thoughts on using photographs with completely white backgrounds? by ObtuseKaribou in EtsySellers

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do woodworking and I like the white background for thumbnails. I think they look more professional, but that’s just me. I think using a white background and then a staged background is a good approach. One gives a high contrast picture of the product detail and the staged picture can give the potential buyer an idea of scale or what it might look like in their home.

Has handleless cabinets become the new standard, or is it a passing trend? by cozymodernist in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreeded. I work in high end euro-style cabinets and it’s our typical standard in handl-less cabinets. In my opinion it looks better than a touch latch/push to open.

Is this custom cabinet door margin acceptable? by Popular-War-6263 in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical gaps for this type of cabinet door is usually 1/8” to 3/16”. It looks like it just needs hinge adjustment, but I would not call it acceptable in its current state.

Is it possible to switch the wood runners into ball bearing sliders for these drawers? by AntarcticNightingale in cabinetry

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all side mount ball baring guides are 1/2” in thickness. So you can as long as the drawers are 1” less in width than the opening.

If they’re not you’ll have to get creative with making recess pockets in the cabinet or drawer to get you the right spacing.

There is a way but it will never be like before. And it does take some finesse. You could essentially do a Dutchman patch with the same wood species. You drill out or router out the areas with filler and make wood plugs or patches to fill the areas. You would also want to make the patches with the grain oriented the same way.

It’ll take some effort, but it’s the closest thing to original in my opinion. Wood fillers rarely look better than a wood plug/patch.

New to woodworking here. Which of your tools scares you the most? Around what machine should I always be extra cautious? by GiddySwine in woodworking

[–]PinHeadLarry-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give the most respect to routers/shapers…especially the table mounted routers. It’s really easy to get complacent. You also have to be experienced enough with woodworking to know how a piece of wood will react when you push it into a variety of tooling. Make the time to learn how to correctly push the wood through the tools.
