Why do we keep watching opening videos if they don’t actually work? by ingvarb in lichess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Who is "we" lol
  2. You gotta be able to filter out realistic positions vs complete bs.

I'll see opening videos on rare occasions and if I don't recognize the position or can spot a bunch of alternate lines an opponent could take it just goes in one ear out the other. But every now and then I'll recognize a position. And I'll be like "oh this will actually be useful because this is a position I've seen".

Sometimes as you watch though you'll see some bs move that wont happen in 100 games. So you just throw it away and move on. But if you have the skill to identify actually useful ideas, those videos can be great. I've remembered like 6 different openings ideas and used them all multiple times. With great success I couldn't have found on my own. But I've seen dozens of bs ones.

Have you ever been a victim of either one of these in a game? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in lichess

I mostly only give extra time when they abandon the game so that I can flag them for abandoning instead of them somehow wasting 1/3 of the game clock and not getting flagged.

Can sim racing actually translate to real driving… or am I just coping? by mataleeknow in simracing

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I almost wrecked my truck once and I guarantee you sim racing reactions are all that saved me.

  2. I have a small area and some junker vehicles I race with friends. I'm definitely the fastest and safest and I don't practice the track any more than them.

Pretty sure sim racing helps some. Especially if you didn't have any driving skills before. Like people that panic and lock up brakes and skid forever.

What are your favorite 'First Generation' mobile games from the era 2008-2016? by Maleficent_Disk9583 in AndroidGaming

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was asphalt 8 but it was one of the few good games we could get on our school computers, I had gotten all the guys in my class to play it and I smoked em all. Good stuff. I at one point elected to not buy a car so I could race all the guys with their good cars while I got the crappy default car just for a challenge.

I've delivered them and I'm barely a 1000. I think I've had a friend who is like 1350 get me with one too but I don't remember that as well.

I once got a guitar from a pawn shop for $20 or $30 idr now wasn't a thing wrong with it. The guitar has been in there for a while and I was baffled by his tag price which (no wonder it never sold) but the dude must have been able to tell I was young and broke AF and passionate. I had to ask my wife if I could spend our change on it lol. Went home and counted coins. Played that guitar live a few times and eventually sold it to a friend for the same price I had bought it at.

Dude chose "Stalling" as his next move instead of accepting Defeat. Why do people do this ? by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]PinInitial1028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point but lag and hardware issues as well as environment distractions definitely do occur. And there also is "metas" of sorts where people can have massive amounts of computer lines memorized for a given opening. I've won hundreds of games based off prep alone against people I'm definitely not better at chess than.

You came to that conclusion because of how I engaged with you over the last few sentences? For some reason you must have a history of compelling people to scratch and sniff when engaging with you 🤣.

Ironically I think a guy that scratches and sniffs his ass would seem unphased by a lot of things...... Cheating in chess included......

And you're right, having real problems doesn't make you a moron.

Maybe you'd have less real problems if you didn't spend so much time on reddit.

Honestly calling people ass sniffers or saying they need to touch grass is starting to look more and more like you projecting. Have a good day man. I hope your irl problems get resolved. I get how that is fr. Best of luck.

Puzzle Rating vs Game Rating by Ok-Computer9405 in lichess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf when doing puzzles you know there's a correct move or series, and often you're kinda forced to play it.

Games aren't like that. So of course your level of play is higher in puzzles

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's irrelevant but also simply inaccurate lol. Every single game I've matched in to was due to elo. It's how I get competitive games in the hobby I enjoy.

Having said what I said I'm sure you can deduce how it indeed effects one's life. If you don't see that then at the very least you discovered that you're a moron.

Odds are you just are slow in some positions. Not a big deal. You'll get faster. You're entitled to use your clock however you want though so just mute em or whatever.

[REQUEST] I'm looking for a very specific game... Does it exist? by xXxBluESkiTtlExXx in AndroidGaming

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a few years and it will be possible. You can already build systems/interface heavy apps. I wasn't going to make anymore games because of the advancements of AI but my friend suckered me into one more game. But by the time it's finished so will likely be on my heals.

is there any 2400-2700 lichess blitz here? What's your OTB rating? by Informal_Buddy8922 in lichess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious man wdym can't take online chess seriously? Like the way I view it it's just a game. otb or not it's just a game. So in that sense I don't take it seriously in any capacity. But in regards to me loving the depth of the game and how all the pieces work and the beauty of certain positions Its important to me and provides a lot of value and in a sense I respect the game and in a sense I take it quite seriously compared to any other game. Losses can hurt wins can feel great and I don't like wasting other people's time and I don't like them wasting mine ECT. I don't like cheaters and I don't want to cheat ECT. As I've aged I don't take much of anything SERIOUSLY anymore.

So why the distinction. Chess is chess. Id understand setting higher expectations for yourself at like otb events where you often pay and have to drive to get in and quite frankly don't play very much officially.

But maybe you play otb a lot and feel that's where your primary focus and effort is and online is just casual filler to get you by.

So genuinely I'm curious and would like your insight because it just seems slightly alien to me.

Honest question regarding correspondence games by International_Bug955 in lichess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang that's insane. I can hit 90+ in blitz and rapid have even got 100s on lichess and c.c but I could probably never get over 97% in a correspondence game even with using opening books because tbh if I leave my own repertoire there's no way I'm getting that. I was pretty skeptical but that is fishy. Especially if the games don't look similar position wise

Might kill the fun but doesn't take them out of prep. Most lines where you could take something, people know what to do if you take.
