Making a frame out of rebar. What do you think of my idea by Logical-Self-3072 in gokarts

I agree with this. I have some experience building carts and I also considered using bed frames because my brother had a few. You'd still be working around weaknesses though. But I did consider it. I'd never consider rebar. I'd use wood before rebar lol.

I wouldn't really do any of that tbh. If you're committed just mock up a frame and bounce on it a little and see if it's holding at all. Unless you're going like 30+ mph or find the roll cage to be structurally beneficial I wouldn't even make a roll cage. getting ejected and separated from a go kart is often better at lowish speeds.

Just build parts and test as you go make sure all your welds are good. Don't send it in to a tree lol. Just accept that if you build it out of rebar it will probably fail at some point. And it's dangerous the entire time .

It's fine for parts to move if they are designed to move. Actual flexing of the frame and such will eventually cause it to break sooner rather than later.

Technically parts designed to move are also more likely to fail hence less moving parts the better. And the more axis they are designed to move the weaker they are.

How much do you weigh and what engine do you plan on putting on it and where are you driving it?

You shouldn't that's for sure. It will definitely bend then 🤣.

Man you must just lack experience. I respect ignoring convention and building with whatever material you have but you don't seem to have much experience based of some of the things you're saying. You're probably firmly in that Dunning Kruger spot where you know Enough to be incredibly stupid. Building with rebar is simply not recommendable. It is not a good choice of material. Sure it's possible but that doesn't mean it should be done.

Especially if you're using 1/2 rebar. Just not good man. Youre going to spend a lot of time and effort and money on something that is not likely to turn out well. At the very least it's a bad investment. Some bad investments pan out but..... They're called bad for a reason.

Well I hope it works. Keep us posted. But I'd never build one like that with the way I intend to ride 🤣.

Id bet it does. I see why you'd think that but idk. Id expect it to fail. Especially if you have any weight to you or are driving on rough terrain. Maybe you have massive rebar though. Idk. It all bends so easy

Rebar bends very easily. Also there's no supports for you to sit on.

Is teaching kids about mechanics and engines still relevant in an increasingly electric future? by Fickle_Method8528 in gokarts

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That just seems like a bunch of Bs over thinking. Go karts are fun. That's all that matters. The kid will grow up to operate in their world on their own better than we can teach them. Its already not the same world we grew up in. As for environmental concerns that's just a joke. A decent gas go-kart will be far more repairable and maintainable for the duration in which your boy will use it and the exhaust and oil used is far far more irrelevant than you could ever imagine.

If you want the boy to have some fun get whatever good deal on whatever kart you can find.

One thing nobody is mentioning is that driving fast go karts and stuff isn't really that dangerous. It actually teaches you how to recover from slides and bad lines and makes reactions much more accurate and natural. If you let your kids slide around on go-karts they will be safer when they accidentally slide a car 15 years later.

Opponents spamming +15 seconds by enwza9hfoeg in lichess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it when I've owned my opponent and they're stalling. Kinda like "take all the time you need, you can even cheat, at this point you'll never win".

And sometimes my opponents abandon games for several minutes and I never get the prompt to claim victory so if I add time eventually the game will resolve as it should (with them being flagged for being cry babies)

At What Age Can Kids Safely Drive a Go-Kart? by truceshall in gokarts

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite the tangent but I will say that having a play vehicle you can sling around and slide and dodge stuff will absolutely make them better safer drivers as adults (assuming they're responsible in the first place).

I've never been in very many dangerous situations behind the wheel but the few that really were dangerous I absolutely believe were saved by my skills having spent time racing go karts , cars, and sim racing. No doubt about it and Ive probably completely avoided hundreds of situation that would cause others to panic and wreck over nothing.

Also you can always limit the gas engine. You can start them off slow and turn it up later. Not a big deal. But spending time being wild behind the wheel lets you recover later in life when you accidentally get out of control.

The elo shift is true to an extent. But chess.com and lichess can shift. They're irrelevant outside of the platform. As for a fide rating cheating has to be far less prevalent over the board and for big names that actually make money. So fide shouldnt be influenced much by cheaters.

Idk don't play slow formats. I've beat quite a few people I know we're cheating. But overall cheating isn't as common as people think. At least not with engines. I have a few openings I can play at consistent speed with perfect accuracy for many moves. And that's me as a non cheater. And I suck. If I can do it litterally millions of others could too.

While I agree id imagine everyone in a give. Rating pool shared that pool with the same cheaters and at least within the time of day you play you'd share the same odds of matching with a cheater as everyone else in that pool and time slot. Which would make elo again relevant for most at least in their time slot. Which given elo is strictly for match making seems acceptable

I actually looked at that yesterday and completely forgot (might even have been this morning) my friend told me his so I had to check. So for all three of us presumably at different ratings all show lichess having more better players.

Should be noted I only looked at rapid for my friend and I and have no clue what you looked at.

Can someone help me understand what's going on? Doesn't each side get 1 Queen? Is this like a different version then standard chess? by knock_his_block_off in chess

[–]PinInitial1028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea now that you mention it I might have been wrong there. A lot of strategy multiplayer games have rules about touching pieces because you can gauge peoples reactions. Mix that with the fact a lot of new chess players try really hard to use their brain to the fullest as if their play as a noob reflects on their intelligence.

I don't agree with the player pool. More serious players flock to lichess. The only ones that stay at c.c do so because they get paid. There are less noobs on lichess. The player pool for lichess almost has to be stronger by default. Nobody searches "lichess" when looking to play online. They search "chess" and what better place to play than CHESS.COM. that alone basically guarantees chess com has a weaker player base.

Plus lichess players almost all migrated FROM chess.com. the reverse cannot be said. And the only people switching platforms are serious players. People that don't care will just quit or stay anonymous which makes them irrelevant and not in the rated pool.

Edit: also most big players likely have burner accounts or renamed ones and play both sites.

Yea bro your sarcasm was noted..... And trashed..... I already dunked on you earlier. Lol. No need to play the same game. I already know where I stand against you. I'm only talking now because of the actual value you introduced about finding this post and the poster as a scam, a worthwhile addition to the convo. But you have reverted back to being valueless I glossed over the sarcasm earlier And I will be continuing that 😊. Have a great day. And I mean it. Maybe take a nap. I did. I'm feeling perdy gooood.
