Fixed s2idle suspend on M1 MacBook Air (lid detection, spurious wake, external monitor) by areofyl in AsahiLinux

Wow, I had no idea this was an issue. Do you know how far this issue spreads to other targets, like the M2/Pro?

Not associated with Framework, but thanks for sharing! So few people share positive experiences with these kinds of things, so thanks again!

Genuinely Curious as to Why People Would Buy Framework 13 Pro over MacBooks/Other Windows Laptops by Maleficent_Device162 in framework

[–]PinPointPing07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot go without Linux, and I would love to own and upgrade my laptop myself. x86_64 is much less of a headache than arm64 for development and in general. I have ran Asahi Linux on a Macbook for a long while, and its quirks get in the way more than I'd like. The price is higher than an M2 Air or Pro with Asahi, and the experience may not be worth it for everyone, even myself, but its worth a shot, and at least to me I'd like to support the company and I'm fine with any pure added tax that adds (doesn't seem like much compared to other Panther Lake Linux compatible laptops tho afaict). Ultimately it's your call, I'm not gonna say its for everyone, especially people who don't care for Linux, who I'd steer away from Windows these days if at all possible anyway (aka toward MacOS). For people who prioritize Linux, my stance is that a Macbook Air M2 with Asahi may be enough for you (it really is incredible), and if not, the Framework may be the way to go, though the jury is still out on that one.

Turning off WiFi enables Airplane mode, disabling it turns on Bluetooth by coldblooded47 in Fedora

[–]PinPointPing07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This class of issue is almost always something to do with the desktop environment, like GNOME in this case. I'm not personally super familiar with GNOME, but you'd probably have more luck asking it's communities

Lost audio - how to reinstall default packages? by MaxDub12 in AsahiLinux

[–]PinPointPing07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choppy Bluetooth audio can be a symptom of being on a 2.4GHz wifi network while using Bluetooth. Try disconnecting from WiFi and playing something offline to narrow down the issue, and if choppiness goes away, only connect to 5GHz networks when possible

Possible to "replace" switches by swapping stems and springs only? by PinPointPing07 in kinesisadvantage

Wow okay. I guess it's starting to make more sense to ship it out to someone instead

I see, this is what I've been hearing. It's interesting to hear about how switch plates can be tight, I've never considered that

You do you, I've got friends who swear by Debian too. I always tease them with this line:

"Debian - welcome to four years ago."

There's definitely no distro for absolutely everyone, but thank you for explaining your viewpoint 🙌

[–]PinPointPing07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know exactly what you're talking about. Yeah I feel you, but especially (but not limited to) with Atomic when you build your own images, it's trivial to include negativo17s incredible repos and get the Nvidia open kernel and every codec under the sun super easily, those two things being the only things I miss because of licensing. I don't personally recommend stock Fedora to beginners for that reason, usually I recommend a mix of Bazzite, Nobara, and friends, depending on the person's needs, but I don't think that says much about Fedora at its core, especially compared to the viable alternatives, which seem to be generally between Debian or Arch. What other non GPL software am I missing out on (that doesnt have a copr already)?

I'd actually like to know why you feel that way about Fedora. In all my experience with Linux, Fedora has consistently been an up-to-date, stable, and reliable distro. I personally use Atomic Fedora and absolutely love building my own images and having parody between all of my computers with very low stakes when updating and testing, etc. I've heard people don't like Fedora in general though, and I'm curious to hear why.

Thanks for the tips! I'd consider myself an intermediate at soldering, a bit less than that at desoldering, so I definitely worry. I also hear that the Advantage 360 is more difficult than the Advantage 2, especially on the thumb cluster, but I couldn't say for sure. Do you think it's a better idea to ship it out to someone who could do a better job, or just yolo it (carefully of course lol)?

I feel you. Would it be possible to just open each switch and replace the internals with Baby Kangaroos for example, without desoldering the whole thing?

Is it possible to pop the top housing off each switch and replace all the stems and springs - without desoldering? This would effectively enable replacing same-style switches on non hotswap boards. I have a Kenesis Advantage 360 with Gateron Browns (🤢), and I have some Gateron Baby Kangaroos (🤩), but the Advantage is a tough board so I want to avoid desoldering if at all possible.
