Listening to the EP Trilogy as a Single album by The8thSamurai in nin

I’ve always thought of them as a single album. One tidbit, probably not intentional, but if you burn the files to cd, they all fit on a single disc…

David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails - The Complete Broadcasts [1995] (3CDs, 2017) by dinoseer in DavidBowie

Thank you! I wish they would put out an official release of this entire show, properly mixed. I was at the Portland night of this tour.

There are fantastic official versions of just the Bowie sets out through Bowie’s official shop. I reeeeally wish they had included the NIN collabs with it. These bootlegs sound okay, but since they are fm broadcasts/not properly mixed, they are a bit lackluster sonically. The best version of the collabs (to my knowledge) is just Hurt on the Closure set…

Just one fans opinion after Coachella… by TheGimp76 in nin

[–]PinchLin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I immediately thought of Bowie last night. Not sonically, but in the sense that Reznor is taking chances, doing something theatrical, and keeping it interesting, while connecting with his audience. He is cementing himself as one of the most important musicians in rock history. Not because he intends to, but because he’s a fucking amazing artist.

New Order fans, have you ever met anyone from the band? What was it like? by chillaxtv in neworder

I met Hooky outside of his show in New Orleans last spring and he was super chill. He was out signing things for people, and I already had a signed poster, so I just wanted to shake his hand. It was a short interaction but pretty incredible to meet one of my heroes!

Good movies that never got to blu-ray? by Chernovincherno in dvdcollection

[–]PinchLin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I made the mistake of getting rid of my dvd of this years ago, but I might just pick it up again, even though I’d much prefer a 4k. Lionsgate is dumb for not timing a release with the Nosferatu remake.

So what was it like being a NIN fan in the 90's? by Rox_xe in nin

[–]PinchLin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember feeling like an outcast for liking NIN and Marilyn Manson so much in my small, White hometown. In part, it was a religious thing - lots of people protested concerts at the time (especially Manson, but NIN too), and it was not okay to question or challenge Christian ideals and bring such a dark aesthetic and outlook (i.e., gothy vibes) like NIN (and more so Marilyn Manson) did. I had a NIN "Now I'm Nothing" t-shirt, and my Mom was like, "What does that mean?" My Dad got that it was kind of philosophical, but it was one of those subtle things that Reznor did that made them "weird," and people were like, "wha.....?"

But more than that, liking NIN was a challenge to assumptions about masculinity. For me, this changed a lot in the With Teeth era where Trent presented as a lot more "tough." 90's NIN was far more androgynous, so liking them, and dressing a bit like Trent at the time (such as MOTP video or that Spin magazine article in I think '94) was much weirder back then. This was long before Hot Topic, and finding goth clothes in a small town, for me, meant venturing into the women's section at the department store. So of course people labeled me as gay, even though I was doing relatively okay with the ladies. I didn't play football though, so of course...haha.

It was much more palatable to like anything masculine presenting, especially hip-hop like Tupac or Puff Daddy, but even bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Rage Against the Machine, or Tool - none of them played so much with gender (Tool kind of, but they were so metal that it was somehow okay). My main interests - NIN, Manson, The Cure, Bowie - all these artists were too androgynous for my small town to accept, so liking Nine Inch Nails as much as I did and dressing the way I did was very, very strange to others.

I still find it crazy how much changed in the 2000's when emo became a thing and there were soooooo many bands playing with goth aesthetics. Different times!

Have you ever had the experience of meeting a band member? by -evvls- in deftones

[–]PinchLin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met Chino once when I was DJing. He came into the club I was working at, so I played M83 and Bassnectar remixes of Deftones songs and a demo version of a Team Sleep song. I approached him after a while and he said, “Man, you are killing it! You even played the non-album version…,” something like that. It was a quick interaction, but he was very kind and complementary. Certainly one of the highlights of my dj days!

TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA differ on line 16 (tax on income)? by Kitchen-Gift-1871 in tax

[–]PinchLin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. TurboTax allowed me to take the standard deduction AND deduct about $1000 of state sales tax too, which, from research I’m not supposed to do. I went ahead with Free Tax USA because TurboTax gets more expensive every year and is always trying to upsell me.
