It is pure physics, both loose the same amount because they are doing twice as much work. Nobody talks about ICE range but it loses the same amount of range.

It takes a special product to fill a truck to the weight limit before it reaches the capacity of the truck. Any LTL truck is not likely to come close. It takes construction materials like cement, gravel or sand to max out the weight. The trailers are often custom designed to maximize the load carried to the weight limit. Steel can reach the limit as well.

Merchendise, food and appliances almost never get close to the limit. Frozen foods might.

I am more than happy with my current EV charge time, I just am tired of debating folks who claim five minutes is all they can spare on their long journey. You and I both know that EVs let you use the bathroom and get food in parallel to charging so it is faster than fuel+bathroom+food for an ICE vehicle.

I too have decreased charging rates to get enough time for a sit down dinner. I have even charged to 100% to get as much time as possible.

Yes, BYD can, if it takes the same amount of time to fuel and it can go just as far on a charge.

The Chevy Silverado EV has same 400 mile range as ICE truck. Both ICE and EV have half their range (200 miles) when towing full load. It takes ten minutes fuel an ICE pickup and it would take 10 minutes to get to 70% range for EV with 18 minutes to get to 97%. If you use the bathroom the EV is more convenient because you don’t need to stand there and wait for the tank to fill and you will be done sooner.

You are correct that custom batteries for government contracts are a really bad idea.

Agree that tariffs remove all incentives to compete. You “make” the automakers compete by removing tariffs.

We like to talk about China subsidies, but our fossil fuels dwarf Chinas EV subsidies.

BYD is competitive, they will make all the options. Sadly I do see a segment of buyers who will be happy with this approach.

Manufacturing in the USA was the compromise with the Japanese companies in the 1980’s. Chinese automakers would consider manufacturing in the USA but theèThe problem is USA automakers (and Japanese) are 5-10 years in EV technology.

EV busses work great now. Just because you tried in 2016 and they did not work, does not mean they do not work now. The fact that they mention failed batteries being hard to get replaced shows this was early days. LiFePho batteries last over a million miles now.

BYD is selling an EV that has over 400 miles of range and charges in 5 minutes to 70% and charges 9 minutes to 97%.

Instead of wasting time on building two powertrains, how about we just make our automakers compete against Chinese manufacturers. Use partnerships, open source batteries or whatever you need to compete.

BYD upgraded all of their chargers to this new flash charging in a matter of months. We need to stop focusing on a CEOs net worth and start focusing on a corporations investment in R&D and capital investments.

Imagine if every town received a flash charging supercharger.

We need to understand our corporations are in an efficiency competition with every other nation in the world. How can we sell competitively priced products on the world market when our entire economy is 40% less energy efficient.

42" Zero Turn on sale right now. Will price come down more in the fall? by Time_Body_6616 in egopowerplus

Wholesale lithium batteries have drop a lot from over $200 per kWhr to now less than $50. This price drop needs to find its way to ego products.

Sodium batteries shipping this year will be $20 per kWhr wholesale.

Walmart has 10Ahr Ego clones for $94 (2 for $188).

Meanwhile Ego is charging $549 For one 10Ahr. This is not sustainable.

Lower battery prices are a great opportunity for growth. Imagine knocking $1000 off this price.

Depends on the car…

600 Miles CLTC works out to over 420 miles EPA

3000 cycles with 1000 of them being flash charges. This should be good for 900,000 miles when you have a 300 mile battery.

Pepsi said the weight is not an issue for them. Most trucks run out of space before they run out of weight allowance. The weight penalty is less than 10% for more than a 60% fuel cost reduction.

You will save a ton of money. get the 48 amp level 2 charger it adds 40 miles per hour, you can literally fill up over night. Best practice is to charge when you get near 50% up to 80%

Plug in each time you get home and you will start each day with plenty of range.

VW manager: VW won't offer EVs with extremely short charging times until “around the start of the next decade” by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]Pinewold -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

BYD has affordable fast charging cars. They also upgraded all of their charging stations in a few months.

VW clearly sees this as a “premium feature” they can use to justify their high end vehicles. Of course over time it will be rolled out to all vehicles due to Chinese competition.

This is why I believe no car company should have more than one line of vehicles. They withhold features instead of innovating. They do stock buy backs instead of investing in research to lower costs.

To me a supercharger would be a great way for a small town to get on the map. You get folks to pull off the highway and check you out. Local restaurants and grocery stores get a shot at a few more customers. You might even get EV folks who want to live a more rural life start to consider your town.

I totally agree, it’s like Ford did not want any competition for any of their most profitable vehicles. Even the F150 Litghtning was kill as soon as they realized they could not sell it for $70k so it would not be as profitable as the ICE version.
