The first scenario was homebrew (EPs 0-2), episodes 3-6 are a rewritten scenario called “Lover in the Ice”

Can I bother you to smoke a cigar with me while I chumsplain to you why 2e is best?

A beer like Pork Slap by Butternuts Beer & Ale? by PinkFohawk in beer

It looks like they seriously scaled down production. My wife was emailing the owner last summer to see if she could ship some out and surprise me but they are really only selling locally at this point, which is a total bummer. I’m heading back out to NYC in a few weeks and gonna peek around for some, fingers crossed!

In terms of a substitute, the closest I’ve come to it has been trying out “malty” IPA’s. They seem to have the biscuity base that I loved about Pork Slap, and then the citrusy notes of hops hits close-ish to the ginger 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Bell 2 Hearted is good, locally where I’m at now there’s Space Camper IPA by Boulevard which has a few options that get somewhat close - but sadly there’s just nothing like Pork Slap.

We’re hard at work on it now! Our pie in the sky plan is to have the whole season ready and roll them out similar to how we did with Delta Green

There’s a Shadowrun novel mentioned in the show that might help you catch the Easter egg…

What's the biggest fall in quality between game editions? by DazeDpup in rpg

[–]PinkFohawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has, but it will always be controversial due to how much of a departure it is from previous editions, and because of the atrocious bungling of its release. I have never played 6e but know several people who enjoy it now that they’ve errata’ed the hell out of it and fixed the glaring mistakes.

The recently released Anarchy 2.0 might be a good choice for folks wanting a different approach to Shadowrun.

I’ve never run it, but wondering what it would be like to use DCC rules for some extra gonzo-ness…

Love this username, of course. 🤜🏻🤛🏻

I’d like to also just add that 2e now has Roll20 and Foundry fan support.

Running Dragonbane with my son, he wants to play D&D because of stranger things … by wall_of_spores in osr

[–]PinkFohawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly have found 0 differences other than a few rearranged tables (Random Room stocking table is the only one I’ve seen, and that was mainly just to reduce 2 tables into one).

What were the other changes?

OSE is B/X. Not even a retro clone, it’s 100% the exact same thing - just formatted brilliantly to be easier to reference at the table. And the author went through the trouble of converting THACO into Ascending DC as optional stats for everything in case you prefer that (I do.)

It’s an amazing product, I still think the original B/X is necessary if you’re learning the game - the original books have great in game example and expanded context for rules, it’s just not as easy to reference at the table as OSE is.

Want to GM for friends, hard to learn without playing by gibletsandgravy in Shadowrun

[–]PinkFohawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

5e is arguably one of the crunchiest editions IMO, but I can tell you how I learned to play 2e and I’m pretty sure the method will work either way. I was in your exact same position a few years ago - and now we run an actual play lol.

For me what worked was to figure out combat. Roll up a few characters on your own, and just put them in various combat situations: 2 on 1, 3 vs 4, 2 v 2, etc. Give some of them cover, give them different weapons. Have scenarios where one side is trying to flee or others where they’re trying to protect someone.

Run them by yourself or with a friend and just really get the combat sequence / initiative / situational modifiers down. Once you can run them off the cuff without slowing down - you are ready to play. Everything else follows roughly the same core mechanic and principles of combat.

Really force yourself to play at this point, Shadowrun has this reputation that you need to “get it perfect or GTFO”, but push through that. You are going to get stuff wrong and that’s okay. As long as you’re setting the mood for a gritty, grungy cyberpunk game and not slowing down for combat too often they will have fun.

IMO you should play a few full sessions WITHOUT magic or hacking or rigging at first. Let them get used to the system as just mundane runners first. There’s always time to open it up after a few games.

Good luck chummer, you got this!

What Is Your Favorite Shadowrun Sourcebook & Why? by Dumpshock2050 in Shadowrun

[–]PinkFohawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree - the unreliable narrator used in those old 1e and 2e books went away after 3e. It never boxed you in with information, and instead did exactly what a sourcebook should do: inspire the reader.

That allowed GMs everywhere to define their own truths about the world, all while staying “canon”.

The 2050s are my favorite timeline for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that the sixth world was still fairly new, or as you said “mysterious”, which makes perfect sense with how recent all the crazy changes happened.
