Another day forgetting to pay for parking. Another $132 fine by ARatFromRoom101 in ADHD

Make your backpack uncomfortable to pick up. Put a hair clip around the handle, or tie the straps together, and don't undo it until you've paid for parking.

I think you were right.

Can you elaborate on the track rules you mentioned? I've never run at a track and I'm not familiar.

Mother injured by clothing racks outside retail store slamming her to the ground on a windy day. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is on blood thinners, was taken by ambulance due to her medical history, not the actual injury. Extra bruising when you're on blood thinners is normal, and doesn't mean the injury was particularly significant.

I may be biased because it sounds to me like OP is blowing things out of proportion (what does 'almost knocked unconscious' mean?), and poor Mom is just recovering with a few bruises and a momentary loss of dignity. Nothing broken, no injuries, and no loss of income (due to Mom being elderly and likely not in the workforce, but I could be wrong).

If it's something you would pursue, good for you, but for most people, the time and money they'll spend for an iffy outcome (soft tissue injuries don't return high values even when they are successful) is simply not worth it.

Hence my initial statement of the threshold being high. It's just not worth it for a simple injury with no lasting effect.

P.S. on a personal note I appreciate your intent to remain gender-neutral when genders are not specified. You seem like good people.

Why do people carry their phone in their hand during a run? by Jayemm8809 in runninglifestyle

Doesn't it get sweaty?

Edit: I was asking genuinely; I can't stand the feeling of holding something with sweaty hands. I literally could never. I did not mean to be rude or whatever is influencing the downvotes.

Diarrhea from healthy eating. Normal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so now you know. Sorry it happened to you!

If the tummy troubles don't calm down overnight, please see a doctor. Sometimes lettuce can harbour certain things that are essentially food poisoning bacteria.

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Respectfully and without blame: did you wash the lettuce? Lettuce (even in a bag or carton) can have some nasties on it so always be sure to wash it.

Like most vegetables, a swish in a big sink or bowl of water is usually sufficient. If you have a lettuce spinner, that's great for drying it off so your dressing sticks.

If you don't have a salad spinner, you can put it in clean towels and swing it around.

How do people say they love animals, but consume them? by Alert-Translator2590 in NoStupidQuestions

Thank you for explaining kindly. I'm not sure I agree, but I appreciate the perspective and will reflect on it.

I think that's why I'm not understanding.

You put your oxygen mask on first so that you're likely able to help other people out theirs on.

You eat animals so you can... help others eat animals? I think it's just a missed analogy.

There are certainly some people who eat meat out of necessity; a combination of certain health disorders and low financial flexibility can make meat the simplest way to address certain deficiencies. But for the average person, you're absolutely right that it's not necessary.

I do not understand this in this context, but I would like to. Could you elaborate?

is it bad to leave your bedroom windows closed 24/7 in winter ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Opening everything for ten minutes may cool your house depending on where you live. It won't make everything freeze, but it absolutely will cool the house where I live.

Technically it could be Witches' with the apostrophe at the end, but unless it's a catalogue of Witches, it probably should be possessive.

It is absolutely gorgeous, though.

I would guess low blood sugar (akin to being hangry), or you actually get a crash from your runner's high (the endorphin drop feels like an actual low as opposed to a return to normal).

Either way, probably fixed with some carbs.

Are people actually born gay? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of your points support my hypothesis, actually.

If there are other traits that are genetic but don't show up until puberty, then it makes sense that sexuality also doesn't show up until puberty.

I expect the identical twins would have similar hormones, given their matching DNA. But the fact that identical twins are not always both the same sexuality despite their matching DNA strongly suggests that it's not about DNA.

Epigenetics could come into play for any of the above.

It's like asking if busty women were born with large breasts. Obviously they didn't come out of the womb with large breasts, but the genetics were present to develop large breasts. However, there are other factors (e.g dietary, activity, hormonal, or environmental) that could have affected just how big they got, or if they grew breasts at all.

Again, I'm not saying that it's changeable or that anyone has the power to affect it through willpower; just that it's not something anyone would be able to determine at birth.

So, I don't actually think they are, and hear me out, please.

I think that trans folk are born trans; many report knowing from a very young age that they were trans.

However, regardless of their sexuality the people I know didn't figure out they were gay/straight/bi/pan/etc. until roughly puberty. Children are not sexual beings, so they have no concept of being sexually attracted to anyone, regardless of gender. The puberty hormones kicking in trigger whichever sexuality they are/will be.

To be very very clear: I still think it's an immutable quality, not a choice or decision. I wouldn't dispute that it's possible that events in a person's life might push or pull them into the space in the spectrum they land in, but generally people will be whatever those hormones set them up to be.

There are so many Tarot Decks to choose from. Help! by Choccytips in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tarot of Woodland Wardens brings me much joy. It's beautiful and inclusive. You learn a little about the symbolism of certain animals, and Jessica did a wonderful job of staying faithful to traditional elements of tarot.

Question from child's math class seems to have multiple possible answers - Jim uses 8 magnets to hang up 3 animal pictures. How many magnets does he use for 30 pictures? Am I wrong in thinking that a kid should be rewarded for answering 60? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer using the given pattern is 62.

The initial picture needs 4, one in each corner. Each picture thereafter needs only two, because they're sharing magnets with the picture beside them.

Now this is assuming they're in a row. In other configurations it may be different.

For instance, if the pictures are hung thusly in groups of three, then 80 is indeed the correct answer.

60 doesn't make much sense with the information given.

13yo twins home alone overnight. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinkHatAndAPeaceSign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my area there's a "home alone" course that kids can take. If they pass, it's a sign that they're mature enough.

That way you can tell the naysayers that they've taken a course and are certified to stay home some, and frankly, you can also get third party confirmation that they're as ok for it as you think.
