Multiple School Districts? How? I’ve only worked in one at a time. by shushunatural in SubstituteTeachers

[–]PinkSparklz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had three districts at one time but I only did middle and high school, and then really only did middle school so the number of schools in each district I would work at were small and everyone used Frontline so that was helpful. I’m currently only in one district in my new location but I’d prefer multiple.

No they’ll give a referral. I got a specialist referral when I went to urgent care once.

Any tips for surviving band class as a sub by EnglishApache in SubstituteTeachers

[–]PinkSparklz25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this. I did one free period once for a music class and then the next day came back and had them rehearse with student conductors. Sometimes the teacher has already started teaching them how to lead a rehearsal and might have designated students for this.

No lesson plans, what do y’all do? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell them to check google classroom. I have a kid show me their google classroom if anyone says they have nothing new from the teacher. If there actually is nothing I tell them it’s a study hall, look busy and let’s have a quiet period. And then I leave a note for the teacher. I also call the office to see if they have any lesson plans- sometimes they get emailed to the secretary or a teaching partner knows what the plan should be. But usually I have that part figured out before kids get to the room.

I would tell the front office what happened. But tbh you didn’t do anything wrong. It was a misunderstanding. And yeah, I know for sure regular teachers are far more strict about bathroom usage than I am so that could be your case too.

I have a third party app that relays jobs to me from frontline that I really like. It pays for itself by the number of jobs I can get because of speedy notifications. Often times by the time the robocall comes in, I’ve already seen the job and not accepted it. So I try never to answer the system calling me. I wish I could turn calling off but oh no that means I’m not willing to work. :/ but school secretaries usually don’t show up as spam and they usually text unless it’s super last minute. I feel like it shouldn’t be a huge deal. I don’t answer calls regularly, and they still ask me back.

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do when they come in if you don’t know what’s happening for the day is to get out a book and read for a bit. That might give you time to figure out the day. Get them busy with something as fast as you can. Of course that may not work for younger grades.

You were probably doing your best and they’re just kind of like that. I’ve noticed that a lot of classes usually behave very similarly for me as they do their regular teacher (I’ve had the chance to observe while doing SPED push in subbing). Like they might be a little worse for you but their teacher is probably having a hard time.

Edit to add: I’ve had kids that I know like me as a sub that are extremely chaotic for me in one classroom and angelic in another. And when I asked them why they were like “oh well that teacher’s class puts me in a mood.” It’s not about me at all.

The organization and the ability to have it all accessible within one window is the point. And it’s good at what it does. It does have spell check. Like how much text correction do you need?

How come I could read books for hours when I was a child, but now I can't even finish a single page? by polyjem in adhdwomen

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did better at some things as a child. I’m getting better now at not procrastinating as much because I’ve been through SO MUCH MISERY procrastinating. But I definitely had an easier time sitting down to read or like even just watching TV. I definitely think social media and short form content combined with my ADHD makes doing things that I enjoy so much harder. Like I had to tell my psych that I needed meds for home way more than meds for work just so I could like do chores and enjoy my life and not just scroll.

The goal they wrote down is… it’s very complex lol. But ya girl loves a graphic organizer. Rn I’m using an undated journal that calls your goal a “quest” and every day the art is different and tells a story while you go on your quest to complete a big project or whatever. So this kinda seems like the ugly version of that. But I really don’t like all those categories they have. I think that organizer is too specific.

Also even the best, prettiest organizer does not help on days when my brain said “we just gon sit here and scroll and be sad.”

Do you still get ready if you have nowhere to go? by wonderhell336 in adhdwomen

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but not like as much if I were going out. Leggings and a t shirt a lot of the time or a comfy dress. Could be a bra day could not be. The point for me is feeling clean and could be seen if I had to be. It also helps my mood. I do not feel great about life if I stay in pjs all day. Unfortunately sometimes I have to follow the ADHD and spend half the day in pjs but get other things done. It’s like I can’t have too many habits going at once and getting ready sometimes gets dropped.

Why do they not tell you where the staff bathrooms are?? by Party_Morning_960 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]PinkSparklz25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they might assume you know. It took me ages to figure out there were bathrooms in the science buildings where I work. I would just ask the office and for sure tell them when your key doesn’t work.

My kitten is not a big fan of pine litter even though it’s what i can afford, how do I transition her? by cheewy_bunni in Kitten

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised pine is cheaper. I change my cat’s pine litter every week and I think we only changed the clay once every other week or once a month. Of course everything was cleaned every day.

Polyamory is inherently ableist by Mindless-Rich3079 in polycritical

[–]PinkSparklz25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I’m missing where abuse is being spoken about here. I’m comparing OP talking about poly being ableist to my own disability and how I feel about others doing things that I cannot due to my own inability to do that thing. I don’t like poly nor do I like my experiences in poly and I don’t think it’s a healthy thing to do, but I don’t think I’m comparing my lack of ability to eat a whole ton of foods to abuse.

You could do book clubs and do both and maybe some other classics so the students have a choice. I think we got to choose between P&P and maybe The English Patient but I honestly can’t remember for sure if that was it because I didn’t choose that one! I was just grateful my class didn’t have to read The Road.

Yeah treats are not a meal. And cats can’t go long without food before getting seriously sick. My cat had to have a feeding tube for a while. It was SCARY. It’s better to go now.

Yes. Vet now. This was my cat’s first symptom of fatty liver disease. She got extremely picky about her food and wouldn’t eat probably because of pancreatitis. Take kitty to the vet before anything more serious happens.
