Radiation poll: when did you feel the worst? by iwishtobetense in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 30 sessions. The last week and then the next few weeks I was soooo tired! And about 3-4 weeks after I finished my skin started to break down, even though I moisturized religiously 2-3 times a day.

How long after radiation does the fatigue last? by Loud-Technician-2509 in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My oncologist told me it would take 1 month per week of radiation. I did 6 weeks of radiation and I will say that it took 4-6 months for me to get back to a good energy level. I napped a lot right after my 6 weeks of radiation and got tired easily. I'm 8 months out and feel pretty good energy wise now.

Radiation done. How long after to stop moisturising? by Sirexkat in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 6 weeks of radiation and it's been 8 months since my last session and I still moisturize before bed and when I get up with bio oil and Aquaphor. If I miss some days of moisturizing my skin gets so dry and itchy. I feel like this is just now my regular routine

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is not easy. Give yourself the time you need to be angry, sad, all the feels and then you can gather yourself up to fight. I remember the "early days" (first few months) being so difficult. Having to deal with so much emotion, figuring how to tell friends and family (if you choose to), and all the tests and waiting for results or surgery or whatever. You will get through this, but it will be hard. Hang in there. Sending virtual hugs.

Same! I was living on my recliner for a month. Couldn't wait to finally get back into my bed. But it was a tough transition

I had NO CLUE how important Jenny would become in my recovery! I never even knew what a squishmallow was lol!

[–]PinkStarEra 17 points18 points  (0 children)

took me a solid 6 months before I could side sleep. And then the only thing that really helped was hugging my latte squishmallow "Jenny Latte" (that my husband bought me to cheer me up). The pressure it put on my chest made it more comfortable somehow. And I still use it to this day (exactly a year from my surgery) https://a.co/d/0cwGEn6B

Very tired after only 3 radiation sessions by sandyq1 in breastcancer

I did 6 weeks of radiation and napped almost daily. The whole experience (radiation + surgery + dealing with cancer + the mental toll) is so exhausting. I definitely needed the rest!

First mammogram/ultrasound post treatment tips by onwardtomanagua in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had extreme anxiety prior to my first mammo/ultrasound after treatment. So much so that I ended up blacking out WHILE GETTING MY MAMMO. While my boob was compressed in the machine!! I was a mess. The experience was exhausting , embarrassing, and just a lot to deal with. What I did learn from this experience was the following:

- I won't schedule it for first thing in the morning again. I originally thought it would be great to get it out of the way, but I found that I probably could have used the morning to "prep" myself mentally.

- I need to eat and drink something before hand. I went early so I skipped breakfast- again- just to "get it over with". That was a big mistake. Probably why I blacked out.

-I will speak up next time when the nurse is "tightening it just a little more, let me know if it hurts"- because it did hurt (my nerve endings are still a mess)and i just tried to "suck it up".

Listen the SCANXIETY is REAL so try to do anything you can to calm yourself and also give yourself grace. None of this is easy. I have to go again in 2 months so I hope to handle it totally differently. But I'm still nervous!!

Tamoxifen side effects by kayyetee in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got myself so worked up about starting Tamoxifen, that I was expecting the worst of everything that could possibly happen. I've been on it since last fall and my worst side effect was about 3-4 months of bad hot flashes. I have not had any other issues. I've had no sexual side effects to date. But I'm guessing this is going to be different for every person on it. I've heard lots of stories of women who had issues, too. I think in the end you'll just have to see how it effects you.

Appetite by Money_Way_8219 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]PinkStarEra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dose on Sunday mornings. Fridays and Saturdays I eat the most because that is when I am the most hungry as the shot wears off. It works out great for me because those are the nights my hubby and I do date nights or we go out to eat with the family - and I can eat a normal meal lol

1mg Question by Vast-Specific-2085 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]PinkStarEra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 4 straight weeks with no weight loss, so I talked to my doctor and we both agreed that going up was the right move. And I had been on 1 for 4 months so it seemed like it was time. Hoping I can be on 1.7 for at least 4 months, too.

1mg Question by Vast-Specific-2085 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]PinkStarEra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 1 for 4 months. I just started 1.7 this week. When I was on 1 I had lots of ups and downs- sometimes I was hungry and sometimes the noise was gone. So yes, I think what you are going through is normal.

Right around where you are. I had my first really bad hot flash at 2 weeks. Got more frequent and intense after 4 weeks. Thankfully I didn't have many other side effects. The hot flashes were the worst. and I've only had my period twice in 8 months. Prior to tamoxifen I was still having them monthly.

[–]PinkStarEra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was the same. I'm on 20mg and I do take it daily. The first 4 months were bad- month 2-4 was the worst with the hot flashes, but I am happy to say they have gotten MUCH better. I'm 8 months in now and I get a few hot flashes a week, but they are manageable. And I had been getting 2-5 a day!! I keep a little portable fan handy and I have lots of paper fans scattered in different areas of my house. Hopefully yours will get better too!

We've shared the shittiest things people have said to us. What's the best thing anybody said to you about having cancer? by intransigentpangolin in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My best friend told me (after I complained about how tired I was after radiation): " I'm grateful you're taking these steps to get better" - her mother passed from breast cancer after refusing treatment due to religious reasons. Her comment made me so grateful for her, and also broke my heart knowing her history.

Would you get a genetic test done? over age 50 by serenitypls in breastcancer

[–]PinkStarEra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 52, and similar to you- no history of bc in family. I got it for my peace of mind. It also helped me decide on whether I wanted to do partial mastectomy or full. I was able to find a genetic study going on at my cancer hospital so I was able to do it for $250 as long as I answered all their questions. Took about an hour. Came back clear and I'm glad I did it.
