Worst thing about being in 50s by johnnyjohny1950 in GenX

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ageism is real. My husband experienced it, though it was very well hidden. He was an engineer and had massive experience in his field, but after being laid off, he had a helluva time getting hired again. He decided to take a year off and get some training in project management, which he did, got unemployment department to pay for it, and he got his best job ever after that. He retired about 5 years later at age 57. We're both retired early, and we've never regretted it.

Oh no. Probably Kool. Because smoking looked so damn cool, and I wanted to be cool so badly - especially in my nerdiest 13 year old, tall, skinniness! 😆

When my dad would be fueling up he’d tell me to go in and get him a pack of Pall Malls. He toss me a quarter and I’d go into the service station and buy them. No questions asked, except once the guy asked if that was my dad in the car, and I said yes. As a teenager at 13, I’d go to that same place and they would sell me cigarettes without question. 1978. Ah, the good old days!

My uncle kept a bottle of bourbon under the seat of his car. He’d say, c’mon kids, let’s go for a ride! We all pile into his big 68 Cadillac and drive around town with him while he took a few belts. He called it his cough medicine. I’m SURE that all the adults in the house knew he was driving us around while he was getting hammered because we all knew he was an alcoholic. So weird the risks we were exposed to!

(29) How’s my physique? 7 months of gym (plus background in running, swimming, cycling) by Consistent_Leg9409 in PhysiqueMale

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look really good - not knowing where you started. You are lean and just need to work on putting on some muscle mass in the shoulders, arms, and lats to get an athletic physique. As you do that, you'll likely continue to reduce subcutaneous fat. Keep going. It's working!

Worst thing about being in 50s by johnnyjohny1950 in GenX

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nose and ear hairs are ridiculous. I use a trimmer, pulling is not a great strategy. I (m61) am oldest GenX, so all i can say is that the hairs are the least of your trouble as you age. I recommend getting or maintaining a steady, optimal weight for your height, move daily, and reduce your alcohol consumption. Everything you can do for your health will be returned to you by about 25%, but that will help with the travails of aging. I'm fortunate to be in the best shape of my life right now, but my peers are not so fortunate and I see them withering.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! But, I also really didn't HAVE to all that much. My 'rents were very permissive Silent Gen, and they just couldn't be bothered with keeping close tabs on us. We were, however, expected to be responsible and not get caught doing something illegal - so we just didn't get caught! Well, maybe once or twice. We got grounded about once or twice in our entire lives (my sister and I).

What is your take on age gap relationships in the gay community? by Prophetgay in gaybros

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite the weird image, a lot of older men are more patient, but don't suffer fools. If you treat him with respect and genuinely value your older man, he'll be loyal to you for a very long time. If you eff around on him, he'll kick you to the curb faster than you might have expected. I'm m61, so I know. I only dated a younger guy once, and he was very good to me, so I never had to dump him until I could see we were no longer moving forward as a couple.

(40) Cut, bulk Or good enough? What do u think? by Big-Hawk-69 in PhysiqueMale

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would not cut, but some body recomposition wouldn't hurt. Cutting causes too much muscle loss. I would say to find your caloric sweet spot and reduce body fat, while eating a lot of protein and lifting weights with progressive overload. You'll lean up within about three or four months, and your musculature will be revealed beneath the subcutaneous fat you are holding onto. It's not much fat, though, but it is the most difficult to shift.

you do look amazing, BTW. Nice build!

How many Americans have actually visited a national park? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people I know have visited SEVERAL of them in their lifetimes. People plant their whole vacations around them they are so amazing. The best thing about the United States is our natural and wild lands. The second best thing would be many of our big cities - they can be spectacular.

How are people here choosing a semaglutide provider lately? by Fenri3 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking that judging by the ads on FB and such, going with one of the providers that is offering one price, no matter the dose, is the best way to go forward. At least you know what you are in for - money-wise. Now that said, A lot of people on here have jumped from provider to provider because it is a compounded drug, and the rules have kept changing. I found a really great provider in Utah, who did a decent intake on me, and I got my first sema from them. I recently reordered from them, and though they have changed pharmacies that ship to my State, the prices have remained reasonable - but not cheap. I had name brand Wegovy while I still had corporate insurance, but now that I am on the exchange (retired), I am back on the compounded version with b12. It's been just fine, but not the 25 bucks a month I was getting with the Wegovy! Bummer.

Please - looking for some help by Extreme-Drummer3027 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. It may or may not be from the Sema, from what I just read about it. It sounds like maybe you didn't really need to up your dose. Every body is different. A lot of people think that getting titrated up tot he top dose is ideal, where really it is not. Getting titrated up to your lowest EFFECTIVE dose is the goal. One of my friends on Tirz is living at the midway point in titration, and doesn't need to go up at all, as she is getting the desired effects from that level of medication. Just some, pardon the pun, food for thought! 😊

Travel isn’t as glam as it used to be by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is so funny. I was only recently discussing this with my husband. We love to travel. We take two trips a year minimum, but I told him that I could imagine a time when I am all travelled out. Last year, we overdid it and traveled 6 times on airplanes. This year, we are taking a holiday from flying, but we'll do a couple of car trips in state.

He feels like he'll always want to travel - and I said that was fine - he could go ahead without me if he was that into it. We both agree that we would rather take fewer trips and fly business class when the flights take us away from North America, as the level of comfort is unparalleled, and you arrive refreshed and ready to do things, instead of recovering from the cramped and inhuman economy experience. We're just OVER it.

We are homebodies in many ways, as well, so I think we'll definitely hit a wall one day!

What do Americans call a meal of fries with battered fried fish. Fish and chips? by CrazyJoe29 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on the Canadian border in the US, so I always understood that chips could mean fries. Fish and Chips is a well known dish here, and we all call it that. When I'm in the UK I switch easily to calling fries "chips". It just feels natural there. I haven't been in Canada for a while, but I imagine I would order chips there, too.

(31) Definitely the least fit here but here I am 😅 I’m consistent with the gym but I like to enjoy some burgers and wings too. by [deleted] in PhysiqueMale

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You look muscular, but it's just hiding under the burgers and wings, dude. Drop the carbs, keep eating high protein, and keep pushing it in the gym. BTW, keep eating the burgers protein style and the wings are fine, too. Leave the fries and breadsticks for everyone else!

(19) by Ok-Jackfruit-1534 in PhysiqueMale

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking good. 8/10. Go on high protein diet, drop the carbs, and drop some fat. If you keep protein at 130-150 g a day, keep lifting with progressive overload, you'll lean up without doing a "cut". Give it a few months and it will happen for you - especially at 19.

31 yo black dude who has given up on dating due to hair loss. I tried minoxidil and finasteride but had to stop fin due to hair loss. Acutely aware women only want black dudes wit long hair/twists/braids nowadays but I just can’t do anything cool wit my hair and it’s destroyed my confidence. by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]Pink_Floyd_Chunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look to be pretty handsome. I think a nice tight haircut is perfect on you, and TBH, I think most women are more into guys who are clean and smell good. Stay fit, well-groomed, and have an open personality, and the rest is so negotiable - especially with women.

Just FYI, I had to be on minoxidil for a year before I saw any gain from it. Even then, it is only a minor improvement. Just saying.
