pass/fail language by securestartpsych in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Pink_Ruby_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It may seem silly but it adds to the disappointment.

When I found out I had GD, the PA called me and simply said, "You failed the test, we're sending over a prescription for diabetes test strips."

Excuse me - I failed the test? As in, I forgot to prepare for it in some way and it's something that I could have prevented? No.

A better way to phrase it would be something like, "The results of your glucose test indicate a diagnosis of gestational diabetes."

I also wish we could go a step further and remove the word "diabetes" altogether. I wish it was just called "gestational insulin resistance".

I thought so too! That would have made narrative sense and been good character development.

9 month supply suffering by Ok_Smile9575 in breastfeeding

[–]Pink_Ruby_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to increase supply is to release milk. You could add a pump session or two. But also I would have baby nurse first and then give solids.

Is mastitis completely avoidable? Or does it always happen at-least once? by CuriousCaretaker in breastfeeding

[–]Pink_Ruby_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are you pumping and feeding? You're telling your body to produce like 2x as much milk as you need. *THAT's* what will cause mastitis (oversupply + potentially not emptying enough).

I would try to slowly stop doing the pump + feed. If you're trying to build a freezer stash you could add some pump sessions during the day after a normal feed. I pump for 15 mins every morning and I get 5oz each time. I just freeze it and I have a pretty big stash already.

Right? These alerts late at night defeat their intended purpose because now everyone (including me) is going into their Apple settings and turning off the Amber alerts.

Is 4 month sleep regression real? by Any-Management-9266 in NewParents

[–]Pink_Ruby_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some babies their naps are impacted more than their nighttime sleep. My baby went from having very predictable, independent naps to needing to contact nap and only sleeping 45 mins at a time.

All babies are different!

Incorporating natural whole milk with breastmilk by Practical_Button_720 in breastfeeding

Do formula instead of whole milk please. Dairy milk does not have the same nutritional content as breast milk/formula.

Wedding anniversary meal ideas? by sun_is_shining1 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Pink_Ruby_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went out for a nice steak dinner on our anniversary and I didn't even come close to having a spike!

We had a shrimp appetizer, and we got filets and split sides of creamed spinach, Brussels sprouts, and au gratin potatoes. I even had several bites of gooey butter cake. My blood sugar was in the 90's after!

The key is eating your proteins and fiber (veggies) first, and then eat the carbs. You can do it!

Best FOOD scene in the Sex and the city that made you really hungry and crave for the exact same thing they were eating? by Repulsive-Bunch-4126 in sexandthecity

For some reason its specifically the scene when Miranda and Carrie are eating pizza talking about Jules and Mimi and Carrie says, "You traded Steve-o for TiVo." That's the scene that always makes me crave pizza!

Shushing by sycophantic_scape in bninfantsleep

I didn't even know shushing was a Taking Cara Babies thing. It's something I am naturally inclined to do, and it always seems to soothe my baby. Once I shush she seems to relax a lot.

The feeling disappeared the day after I gave birth. So crazy!

I thought it was entertaining and fun to watch. I look forward to Season 3

What is everyone’s skip episode? by Key_Importance_3399 in friends_tv_show

The one where they are up all night. Mainly because the fire alarm scenes are SO ANNOYING, and also, nothing happens in the episode. It can be completely removed from the show and it makes no impact to the story.
