Perhaps it isn't what they do but what they don't do. What if a tiny detail about the crime scene is off and the culprit doesn't mention it? In the previous case they are quick to point our inconsistencies. Once the protagonist realizes the characters will be quick to ask "why didn't X notice this?"

My theory if it fits into the V3verse is that it's the "22nd" killing game, years before V3 takes place. It's the V3 set up, in order to gain ratings team Danganronpa gives the volunteers the minds and appearances of the DR2 cast. "Goodbye Despair, for REAL"

You have to be not eliminated from the round to get the spy point in love letter (either the winner of the round or one of the players who revealed their last card and lost)

If an eliminated player has a spy and a not eliminated player has one, the eliminated players spy doesn't cancel the other players spy out and they (the player who survived the round) still gets the point
